National PET Centre is looking for a Research Assistant or Project Researcher for time period 1.12.2025-31.8.2026.

Job description

The Research Assistant’s / Project Researcher’s tasks will be processing and analyzing of research data, reporting research results in scientific journals, and tasks supporting research.

Who we are looking for

Eligibility requirement for the position is knowledge of handling medical data and image processing, programming skills, experience of applying artificial intelligence in real-world data, and fluent English language skill. Experience in analysing of medical images, cardiovascular research and machine learning involving coding is an advantage.

Eligibility requirement for a Project Researcher is a Master’s degree. The position can be filled for a Research Assistant or Project Researcher according to the background of the applicant. The job title depends on the education and experience of the person selected.

Salary and trial period

The salary is determined in accordance with the University salary system for teaching and research personnel. The Research Assistant’s task is on level 1, where the task-specific salary component is 2 074,47 euros per month. Project Researcher´s salary will be based on demand levels 2-4, where the task-specific salary component is 2 281,48-2 844,66 euros per month. In addition, a personal work performance component will be paid.

A three (3) month trial period may apply to the position.

Postdoctoral Researcher, Automated Fungal Strain Development, VTT – Espoo

VTT is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join its Protein Production team for a fixed-term three-year position starting in January 2026. The team focuses on filamentous fungi, particularly Trichoderma reesei, for the production of sustainable food and material proteins, enzyme mixtures, and therapeutic proteins.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will contribute to digitalizing and automating fungal strain development, using data-driven approaches, machine learning, and high-throughput experimentation within the Design-Build-Test-Learn framework. The role aims to accelerate the creation of high-quality cell factories, particularly for non-model organisms where biofoundry pipelines are still under development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Laboratory research to develop pipelines for high-throughput creation and analysis of T. reesei protein production strains
  • Developing and implementing automated methods, including AI-based analysis and predictive design, to screen high-performing fungal strains
  • Designing, developing, and optimizing fungal chassis strains for traits such as increased secretion, reduced carbon catabolite repression, and lower proteolytic activity
  • Establishing standards and metrics for biofoundry operations to translate small-scale data to larger-scale production
  • Contributing to a collaborative and supportive team environment
  • Disseminating research through publications and participating in public funding proposals
  • Supervising or mentoring junior team members

Qualifications:

  • PhD earned within the last five years in biotechnology, microbiology/biochemistry, biochemical engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with high-throughput methods, automation, and relevant programming languages
  • Knowledge of fungal biology, strain engineering, bioinformatics, or bioprocess engineering is an asset
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken
