To support this mission, the Bioinformatics team within Translational Medicine is seeking a talented Bioinformatician to support drug target discovery and R&D across our Oncology research units. In this role, you will contribute to cutting-edge research by leveraging proteomics data as a primary focus, integrated with other multimodal datasets, and advanced computational approaches to drive discovery and translational impact. 

This is a two-year fixed-term, onsite position based in Turku or Espoo, Finland, reporting to the Head of Bioinformatics.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Contribute to multidisciplinary teams by delivering bioinformatics and data analysis for proteomics focused studies, integrating multimodal data to support all phases of drug R&D. 
  • Provide bioinformatics expertise to support experimental design and ensure high quality results. 
  • Manage, curate and document data in compliance with best practices and organisational guidelines. 
  • Develop, implement and maintain scalable and reproducible data analysis workflows. 
  • Preprocess, analyse and model complex biological datasets and interpret results to address key questions during the R&D of new therapeutics. 
  • Document, communicate and present results clearly to cross-functional teams, supporting data driven decision making. 

You will work closely with bioinformatics and cross-functional teams to discover and validate novel cancer targets and contribute to development of new therapeutics from concept to clinical candidate.

What are we looking for?

The successful candidate is expected to fulfil the following requirements: 

  • Formal education and PhD in Bioinformatics, Data Sciences, or related field. 
  • Strong foundation in statistics, AI/ML and computational methods applied to biological data. 
  • Proficiency in Python and R with the ability to develop production ready code. 
  • Capability to design and execute bioinformatics and machine learning analysis indendently. 
  • Strong data visualisation and reporting skills. 
  • Ability to follow established guidelines and best practices in data management and analysis, including reproducibility, version control and documentation. 
  • Ability to integrate datasets and derive biologically meaningful insights to support informed decision making. 
  • Experience working in Linux and cloud computing environments. 
  • Hands on experience with Bash and workflow management systems. 
  • Experience in analysing proteomics and/or other omics data. 
  • Strong collaboration, communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex findings to cross-funtional teams 
  • Fluency in spoken and written English. 
  • Domain knowledge in Oncology and previous experience in pharmaceutical environment is considered as a plus.

Job description

 We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Assistant with mass spectrometry experience to join the Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADC) Team. This is a hands-on laboratory role ideal for someone who enjoys experimental work and thrives in a collaborative research environment. You will be part of a dynamic, international team working in modern facilities equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation. 

Orion Pharma is making strategic investments in challenging R&D areas where our expertise can drive breakthroughs-particularly in cancer therapies. As part of this commitment, we are enhancing our oncology research capabilities in proteomics and target discovery. 

This is fixed-term on-site position for two years. The candidate would ideally start working in August 2026. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support research activities by performing sample preparation for proteomics analysis, in vitro cell-based assays, biochemical assays, and molecular biology techniques including flow cytometry (FACS), immunofluorescence staining and cell imaging, Western blotting (WB), quantitative PCR (qPCR), and antibody labelling. 
  • Support discovery and verification of novel proteoforms. 
  • Independently maintain and conduct experiments using mammalian cell cultures. 
  • Assess the potency of antibody-drug conjugates and free payloads. 
  • Evaluate antibody binding, surface protein density, and internalization in vitro. 
  • Accurately document experimental procedures and results using electronic lab notebooks. 
  • Ensure high standards of laboratory housekeeping and contribute to routine maintenance of lab and cell culture facilities. 

The role is based in Turku, Finland, and will report to the ADC Target Discovery Lead.

Our expectations 

  • Familiarity with proteomics workflows (DDA, DIA) 
  • Hands-on experience with LC-MS/MS 
  • Experience working with patient-derived material 
  • Experience with functional assays 
  • Exposure to: Cell-surface or membrane protein enrichment, glycoproteomics and/or phosphoproteomics 
  • Hands-on experience in laboratory techniques related to cellular and biochemical assays, and standard molecular biology methods (e.g., FACS, WB, qPCR, IF). 
  • Strong expertise in mammalian cell culture and related functional assays. 
  • A relevant degree in health sciences or biotechnology, such as from the University of Applied Sciences. 
  • Proficiency in basic computational tools and experience with electronic lab notebooks. 
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal. 
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. 
  • Prior industry experience is an asset but not required.

Position Summary
The Head of Research & Development for MBD is a high-impact global R&D leadership role focused on advancing innovation and driving strategic goals across clinical, food, and pharmaceutical microbiology markets.   • 10+ years of R&D experience in regulated environments (FDA, EMA), including 5+ years in in vitro diagnostics or related sectors.
  • 10+ years of people leadership, with experience leading large teams globally.
  • Proven track record in developing innovative products from concept to commercialization.
  • Knowledge of GMP and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate in a global, multicultural, matrixed environment.
