There is an opening for a postdoctoral fellow in the Matyas’ laboratory to work on the development of heroin and fentanyl vaccines. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will support the Laboratory of Antigen and Adjuvant Research (LAAR) within the US Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) located at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) located in Silver Spring, MD, USA. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MHRP.
The fellow will conduct studies to support a Phase 1 clinical trial on heroin vaccine. This position also involves developing fentanyl vaccine, combination heroin-HIV vaccine, and adjuvants.

Vascular
cambium produces xylem (wood) and phloem, and together with the cork
cambium, which produces a protective layer at the surface called
phellem,
they provide thickness to plant organs. The goal of the group has been
to understand the molecular regulation and cellular organization of
vascular cambium. We have been utilizing lineage tracing techniques,
molecular genetics, advanced microscopy and genomics
as approaches to study the cambial cells in the model species Arabidopsis thaliana. Using these techniques, we recently identified stem cell organizer of the vascular cambium (Smetana
et al. Nature 2019).
We are looking for post doc(s) and PhD student(s) to carry out an ERC
Consolidator Grant -funded research line, in which we investigate growth dynamics and regulatory mechanism of the stem cells of cork cambium.We
will also study how the two lateral meristems, cork and vascular cambia, together increase the thickness in plants. More information available in the lab

We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant within
our team, to study immunometabolic
actions of metformin. The post holder will work on a British Heart
Foundation (BHF) funded project that aims to study ‘immunometabolic’
remodelling of monocyte and macrophage responses by metformin in
cardiovascular disease. The work will mainly involve primary
cell work, including proteomics, signalling analysis and other
approaches to study cellular and molecular biological effects of the
drug on immunity.
Our
work in this area (Circulation, Circulation Research) has established
that anti-inflammatory effects of metformin are exerted irrespective of
diabetes status, through mechanisms that are different
from existing anti-inflammatory drugs. Control of immunity through
changes in metabolism- ‘immunometabolism,’ if it can be better
understood, is recognised as a potential site of therapy even in
nondiabetic age-related cardiovascular disease (CVD). To work
towards this, the purpose of this proposal is to study effects of
metformin on monocyte and macrophage biology, to develop a
mechanism-based understanding of metformin’s anti-inflammatory actions.
Timely insights from the recent CANTOS study, establishing a
CVD group receptive to anti-inflammatory therapy, underlines
translational potential.
You
will be joining a dynamic and growing team working in open-plan lab
space alongside other groups, all of us interested in basic science with
translational potential. We will offer you experience
in supervising students and although the majority of time will be based
in Ninewells, Dundee, the post holder will require to have the ability
to travel flexibly as this post includes a unique research stay in
Finland as part of the group’s interest in internationalisation
of diabetes and cardiovascular disease research networks. Previous
experience in appropriate research techniques is desirable but training
is available.

The Atherosclerosis Research
Laboratory at the Wihuri Research Institute, located in Biomedicum
Helsinki in Meilahti, is looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral
researcher.
The Atherosclerosis Research
Laboratory focuses on identifying novel methods to assess
person-to-person differences in various atherogenic properties of
lipoproteins, such as interaction of lipoproteins with proteoglycans
and lipoprotein modification and aggregation. In a recent
hypothesis-generating study we found a link between the presence of
aggregation-prone LDL and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD)
death in a small group of patients having established atherosclerosis
(https://academic.oup.com/eurheartj/article/39/27/2562/5049093).
The present research project
aims at confirming this link. In addition, we will examine the metabolic
factors that control LDL composition and aggregation using mouse models
of atherosclerosis, cell culture systems,
and in vitro studies. The ultimate goal of our research is to develop
novel biomarkers that may facilitate identification of patients who are
at increased risk for developing ASCVD.
The Atherosclerosis Research
Laboratory led by Adj.Prof. Katariina Öörni is now seeking a
post-doctoral researcher to participate in the studies. In particular,
we are seeking a researcher with experience in mouse
studies. The successful candidate has also experience in cell culture
methods and knowledge of lipid and lipoprotein metabolism.
