“The Coevolutionary Consequences of Biodiversity Change” eli CO-EVOL-hanke on Euroopan tiedejärjestön (ERC; http://erc.europa.eu) rahoittama tutkimushanke, jonka puitteissa pyritään selvittämään kuinka mikrobien monimuotoisuus ja kasvi-mikrobivuorovaikutussuhteet ovat muuttuneet biodiversiteettimuutoksen myötä. Tutkimuksessa yhdistyvät maastokartoitukset, ekologiset kokeet niin kentällä kuin kasvihuoneessa, geneettiset analyysit ja matemaattinen mallinnus. Projekti kuuluu professori Anna-Liisa Laineen ryhmän tutkimuksiin ja on osana Reseach Centre for Ecological Change (REC) -keskusta.
Tehtävän kuvaus
Tutkimusteknikko vastaa yhdessä hankkeessa työskentelevän projektisuunnittelijan kanssa tutkimusaineiston keruusta ja ylläpidosta niin maastossa, kasvihuoneella kuin laboratoriossa.

The Lengefeld laboratory is working on understanding how the failure to regenerate tissue with age is a major health issue. A contributor to this decline is the loss of stem cell function. Despite the essential role of stem cells, it is still unclear how they fail to maintain their functions during aging and disease. We discovered a new aspect of stem cell aging in vivo: cellular enlargement. With age and damage, stem cells increase in size causing their functional decline. However, we are only beginning to understand how size impacts stem cell fitness and the physiological importance of this process remains unsolved.

As the Contrast Media (CM) & Molecular Imaging (MI) Account Manager, you’ll be responsible for managing relationships with healthcare accounts in Finland (exact geography TBD). The position is part of research program that aims to discover biological mechanisms in schizophrenia and related neuropsychiatric disorders. The program bridges multidisciplinary group of researchers in the interface of genetic discoveries and multi-omic molecular biology using collections from over 500 000 genotyped participants from clinical and population studies with medical data. These include the FinnGen ( https://www.finngen.fi/en ) and SUPER studies ( https://www.superfinland.fi/english ). The Palotie group applies modern large-scale genetic analysis approaches to discover genetic mechanisms in common diseases with focus on neurological, neurodevelopmental, and neuropsychiatric traits. Palotie leads major research efforts at the University of Helsinki and The Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. The Pietiläinen group combines state-of-art functional genomics and molecular cell biology approaches to understand how genetic risk factors identified in the disorders mediate their causative effects in human cells. The Pietiläinen laboratory is based at the Neuroscience Center and has close links with the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard ( https://www.broadinstitute.org/stanley ).
Role description:
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on a multidisciplinary project that utilizes genomic and medical registry data from over 500 000 individuals and a collection human induce pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) from genetically defined patients and controls. With these resources our goal is to model genetic and cellular processes involved in neuropsychiatric disorders. We are looking for a person for planning, conducting, and supervising multifaceted analysis of genetic and multi-omic data generated from the study participants and human cellular models, including RNA sequencing, and proteomics.
Key Requirements
We are looking for a highly motivated and creative person with a primary interest in molecular genetics and genomics data analysis to discover mechanisms in neurological disorders, and to work in multidisciplinary team of clinical, wet lab, and computational scientists. Candidates should have a PhD in bioinformatics, statistical genetics, applied statistics or mathematics with experience in genetic and/or functional genomics data analysis. We require previous experience and skills in research computing in high-performance cluster computing environment and/or cloud computing. The ideal candidate will have experience in at least one of the aforementioned areas, and a interest in the others.
The position is available from August 2023 onwards, or earlier, if required. It is a two-year fixed-term position, with a possibility of extension. Trial period of 6 months will be applied.
The salary will be based on level 5 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. What You Need
Level of Education

Työpaikkakuvaus
Turun yliopisto on maailmanluokan monialainen tutkimusyliopisto, joka tarjoaa haasteellisia työtehtäviä ja ainutlaatuisen näköalapaikan suomalaiseen ja kansainväliseen tiede- ja koulutusmaailmaan.
1-2 Erikoistutkijan tai projektitutkijan tehtävää: laskennallinen mikrobiomitutkimus
Turun yliopiston Tietotekniikan laitos hakee 1-2 erikoistutkijaa tai projektitutkijaa laskennallisen mikrobiomitutkimuksen alalle.
Tehtävät ovat määräaikaisia ja päättyvät 28.2.2025. Mahdollisuutta työsopimuksen jatkamiseen ryhmän muissa tutkimushankkeissa voidaan arvioida vuoden 2024 aikana.
Toivottu aloituspäivä on 1.11.2023, aloitusajankohta on neuvoteltavissa.
Hanke keskittyy ajankohtaisten mikrobiekologian ja metagenomiikan laskennallisten menetelmien kehittämiseen ja soveltamiseen kansainvälisissä yhteistyöhankkeissa. Työ on tutkimuspainotteinen, mutta voi sisältää myös muita tehtäviä, kuten koordinointi- ja opetustehtäviä. Työn ohjaajana toimii apulaisprofessori Leo Lahti.
Erikoistutkijan tehtävään sopiva hakija on valmistunut tohtoriksi tai viimeistelemässä tohtorintutkintoa soveltuvalta alalta. Projektitutkijan tehtävään otettavalta edellytetään tehtävään soveltuvaa ylempää korkeakoulututkintoa (maisterin tai diplomi-insinöörin tutkinto), jonka tulee olla suoritettuna hakuajan päättymiseen mennessä. Lisäksi projektitutkijan tehtävään valitulla henkilöltä odotetaan kiinnostusta jatko-opintoihin ja hänen tulee hakea opiskeluoikeutta Turun yliopiston tutkijakoulusta seuraavassa haussa.

Odotamme hakijoilta tehtävien uravaiheeseen soveltuvaa tutkimusnäyttöä, itsenäisyyttä, yhteistyökykyä, ja motivaatiota työskennellä monitieteisessä ympäristössä. Sovellusalan tuntemus ja monipuolinen tieteellinen kokemus katsotaan eduksi. Sujuva englannin kielen taito ja kokemus tieteellisestä ohjelmoinnista ovat välttämättömiä.
Erikoistutkijan palkkaus määräytyy yliopistojen palkkausjärjestelmän opetus- ja tutkimushenkilöstön vaativuustasokartan tasojen 4-6 mukaisesti, jossa tehtäväkohtainen palkanosa 1.9.2023 alkaen on 2720,86-3673,96 euroa kuukaudessa. Lisäksi maksetaan henkilökohtaiseen suoriutumiseen perustuvaa palkanosaa, joka on 6% – 50% tehtäväkohtaisesta palkasta.
Projektitutkijan palkkaus määräytyy tasojen 2-4 mukaisesti, jossa tehtäväkohtainen palkanosa 1.9.2023 alkaen on 2182,19 – 2720,86 euroa kuukaudessa. Lisäksi maksetaan henkilökohtaiseen suoriutumiseen perustuvaa palkanosaa, joka on 6% – 50% tehtäväkohtaisesta palkasta.
Tehtävissä on kuuden (6) kuukauden koeaika.

Työpaikkakuvaus
Innostaisiko sinua työ nopeasti kehittyvällä alalla? Geneettinen analytiikka kehittyy kiihtyvällä vauhdilla ja vaikuttaa yhä useamman potilaan hoitoon. Genetiikan laboratorio tarvitsee lisää ammattilaisia vastaamaan tähän haasteeseen.
HUS Diagnostiikkakeskus on Suomen johtava kliinisten laboratorio- ja kuvantamispalvelujen tuottaja. Pääasiallinen toiminta-alueemme on HUS-yhtymän erikoissairaanhoito ja HUSiin kuuluvien hyvinvointialueiden perusterveydenhuolto. Vastaamme myös Kymenlaakson hyvinvointialueen ja Etelä-Karjalan hyvinvointialueen laboratorio- ja kuvantamistoiminnasta.
Toimimme kahdeksalla lääketieteen erikoisalalla. Vastaamme valtakunnallisesti useista erityisosaamista vaativista tutkimuksista sekä yliopistolliselle sairaalalle kuuluvasta tutkimuksesta ja opetuksesta. Diagnostiset tutkimukset ovat keskeisessä roolissa sairauksien varmistamisessa, poissulkemisessa, osana hoitoa sekä hoidon seurannassa ja seulonnassa. HUS Diagnostiikkakeskuksessa työskentelee noin 3500 laboratorio- ja kuvantamisalan asiantuntijaa yli 170 toimipisteessä.
HUS Diagnostiikkakeskuksen Genetiikan laboratorio on nopeasti kasvava diagnostisia genetiikan laboratoriotutkimuksia tarjoava laboratorio. Laboratorion tutkimusvalikoima kattaa laajasti sekä perittyjen että somaattisten muutosten tutkimuksia ja toiminta on voimakkaasti siirtymässä genomin laajuisiin tutkimuksiin. Laboratoriossa voi siten saada monipuolisen ja vahvan koulutuksen ja ammattitaidon sairaalageneetikon tehtäviin.
Haettavana olevat sairaalageneetikon kolme koulutustoimea tähtäävät asetuksessa (564/94) tarkoitettuun sairaalageneetikon pätevyyteen. Toimet täytetään erikoistumiskoulutuksen edellyttämäksi ajaksi. Liitä hakemukseesi selvitys omasta sairaalageneetikon koulutuksen vaiheestasi (hyväksytyistä kliinisen ja teoreettisen koulutuksen suorituksista tai suunnitelma koulutukseen hakeutumisesta, mikäli et ole vielä koulutusohjelmassa) erillisenä liitteenä.
Tehtävän hoitaminen edellyttää sinulta aloitteellista ja itsenäistä työotetta, hyvää organisointikykyä, hyviä vuorovaikutustaitoja sekä innostusta uuden oppimiseen ja kehittämiseen.
Tehtäväkohtainen palkka on 3502,26 €/kk ja mahdollinen työkokemuslisä.
