The Department of Biological and Environmental Science is seeking to recruit a Doctoral Researcher in Cell and Molecular Biology starting 1st of September 2025 or as soon as possible after that for a maximum of four years. The fixed-term position is for completing doctoral studies.
Understanding the intranuclear mechanisms of herpesvirus reactivation and its effects on host chromatin structure and dynamics is essential for both basic research and the development of oncolytic virus therapies and novel antivirals that prevent virus reactivation. This PhD project aims to refine our understanding of the mechanisms underlying virus reactivation and the roles of chromatin organization and phase separation in this process. The project is part of an Academy Fellowship funded by the Research Council of Finland, titled ”The role of DNA positioning and interactions in herpesvirus reactivation.” The research will be conducted at the University of Jyväskylä using a multidisciplinary approach that combines cell biology and biophysics with advanced imaging techniques, protein structure prediction algorithms, and biophysical modeling. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the Vihinen-Ranta research group (https://mvr-lab.org) and international partners. Both the research and imaging facilities at the University of Jyväskylä and those of our collaborators in Europe and the USA will be utilized.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a skilled and motivated PhD candidate with a relevant Master’s degree (e.g., in biochemistry, molecular medicine, or cell and molecular biology). Previous experience in virus research, confocal laser scanning microscopy, and image analysis is considered an advantage. Strong teamwork skills and motivation for scientific research are essential.
The tasks of a Doctoral Researcher focus on research aiming at the completion of a doctoral thesis, doctoral studies, assisting teaching tasks, and other related tasks to these. The duties, qualification requirements, and the language skills of Doctoral Researchers are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines (Doctoral Students). A good command of English is required. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.
The eligible candidate has, or is about to obtain, a suitable Master’s degree. In addition, the Doctoral Researcher must have a permission for post-graduate studies at the University of Jyväskylä. If the applicant does not have permission for post-graduate studies, it must be applied with a separate application procedure from the Faculty of Mathematics and Science after selection for the position.

The salary for a Doctoral Researcher is determined based on the task-specific demand level 2-4 of the university salary system for teaching and research staff. The starting salary will be approximately 2400 €/month (gross income). With progress of thesis work, the salary will be revised in accordance with the Collective Agreement of Finnish Education Employers.

Toimimme kahdeksalla lääketieteen erikoisalalla. Vastaamme valtakunnallisesti useista erityisosaamista vaativista tutkimuksista sekä yliopistolliselle sairaalalle kuuluvasta tutkimuksesta ja opetuksesta. Diagnostiset tutkimukset ovat keskeisessä roolissa sairauksien varmistamisessa, poissulkemisessa, osana hoitoa sekä hoidon seurannassa ja seulonnassa. HUS Diagnostiikkakeskuksessa työskentelee noin 3500 laboratorio- ja kuvantamisalan asiantuntijaa yli 170 toimipisteessä.
HUS Diagnostiikkakeskuksen Genetiikan laboratorio on nopeasti kasvava diagnostisia genetiikan laboratoriotutkimuksia tarjoava laboratorio. Laboratorion tutkimusvalikoima kattaa laajasti sekä synnynnäisten että somaattisten muutosten tutkimuksia ja toiminta on voimakkaasti siirtymässä genomin laajuisiin tutkimuksiin. Laboratoriossa voi siten saada monipuolisen ja vahvan koulutuksen ja ammattitaidon sairaalageneetikon tehtäviin.
Haettavana olevat sairaalageneetikon koulutustoimet tähtäävät asetuksessa (564/94) tarkoitettuun sairaalageneetikon pätevyyteen. Toimet täytetään erikoistumiskoulutuksen edellyttämäksi ajaksi. Liitä hakemukseesi selvitys omasta sairaalageneetikon koulutuksen vaiheestasi (hyväksytyistä kliinisen ja teoreettisen koulutuksen suorituksista tai suunnitelma koulutukseen hakeutumisesta, mikäli et ole vielä koulutusohjelmassa) erillisenä liitteenä.
Tehtävän hoitaminen edellyttää sinulta aloitteellista ja itsenäistä työotetta, hyvää organisointikykyä, hyviä vuorovaikutustaitoja sekä innostusta uuden oppimiseen ja kehittämiseen. Edellytämme sinulta lisäksi filosofian maisterin (FM), lisensiaatin (FL) tai tohtorin (FT) tutkintoa sekä opintoja painottuen perinnöllisyystieteeseen ja ihmisgenetiikkaan. Tässä roolissa pääset osaltasi vaikuttamaan puhtaampaan energiaan, sillä työsi myötä jätteenpoltosta peräisin olevat CO2-päästöt kierrätetään ja muutetaan fossiilivapaiksi materiaaleiksi ja raaka-aineiksi.
Työskentelet osana dynaamista organisaatiota eri taustojen ja kokemuksen asiantuntijoiden kanssa. Toimit tiiviissä yhteistyössä eri sisäisten ja ulkoisten sidosryhmien kanssa, kuten laitteiden, välineiden ja laboratoriokoulutustarvikkeiden toimittajien sekä sisäisesti projekteihin osallistuvien kollegoiden kanssa.

Laboratoriotutkijan tehtävässä pääset osaksi asiantuntijatyötä, jossa jokainen näyte voi olla avain rikoksen ratkaisemiseen. Työ sijoittuu Laboratoriopalvelut-linjalle, DNA-laboratorioryhmään. Lisäksi maksetaan henkilökohtaista suoritusosaa enintään 32 % ja kokemusosaa 0-14 % peruspalkasta. Tehtävän kuvaus
Haemme nyt asiantuntijaa, jolla on kokemusta in vitro -diagnostiikkaan tarkoitetuista lääkinnällisistä laitteista, ja joka haluaa kehittyä vaativaan asiantuntijatehtävään. Erityiseksi eduksi katsomme, jos hakijalla on valmiudet toimia sisäisenä kliinikkona.
Asiantuntijan pääasiallinen tehtävä on lääkinnällisten laitteiden ja valmistajien laadunhallintajärjestelmien auditointi sekä tuotteiden vaatimustenmukaisuuden arviointi CE-merkintää ja markkinoille saattamista varten.Odotamme sinulta

who will focus on bioinformatic analyses of genomic data obtained from archaeological finds of domesticated animals.
About the job
You will be working with and supported by a group of enthusiastic researchers in a multidisciplinary project that combines historical, archaeological and genetic methods to study the early history of poultry and horses in Northeastern Europe. This project is also a part of the research of the Wildlife Genomics Research group (https://wildlifegenomics.wordpress.com/). Specifically, you will produce and analyze genomic data obtained from archaeological finds of poultry and horses from the region around the Baltic Sea.
Who are you?
We expect that you have:
A PhD in biology (or a relevant field) obtained no more than ten years ago, and prior experience in bioinformatic analyses of genomic data, and knowledge of population genomics
Demonstrated effective writing skills through high-quality publications, including some international experience and networking
Demonstrated capability to work independently and in collaboration with colleagues.
Fluent in English, both in oral and written communication.

Appointment and salary

The salary will be based on levels 5-6 of the demand level chart for Finnish universities’ university-level teaching and research staff. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (a maximum of 50% of the job-specific component). The starting gross salary will be approximately 3800-4200 € per month, depending on the qualifications. A trial period of 6 months is applied to the position.

Who we are looking for:
Candidate should have a Master’s degree in biotechnology, molecular biology, protein chemistry, or related field.

Description of Position
The purpose of this role is to contribute to the management and support of regulatory activities for veterinary medicinal products, ensuring they meet global standards. As a Regulatory Affairs Officer you will have the opportunity to develop expertise in regulatory procedures, particularly for new marketing authorisation applications in the EU and US. You’ll also gain a deeper understanding of regulatory guidelines and processes while collaborating with internal teams, and global partners.
