A
successful applicant will have a Ph.D in clinical medicine, genetics,
bioinformatics, or statistics, and prior experience in clinical or
epidemiological studies. The applicant should also have good knowledge
in human biology, biochemistry, or metabolism. The research work
primarily includes analyses from the METSIM cohort comprising detailed
genetic and phenotypic data. A
person to be appointed as a senior researcher shall hold a suitable
doctoral degree and have good teaching skills. Positions of senior
researchers may be filled permanently or for a fixed term (UEF
University Regulations, Section 31).
English may be used as the language of instruction and supervision in this position.
The position is filled for a fixed term from 1.11.2019 to 31.8.2023. The
position is filled for fixed term due to defined project aims and
restricted duration, as well as project funding fixed for this
initiative (Profi 5, HEALTHLIFE).
The salary of the
position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish
universities and is based on levels 6 – 7 of the job requirement level
chart for teaching and research staff (€3 423,25 – 3 946,50/month). In

Exposures, Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Kuopio
Campus
The research in the open position
will be related to health outcomes of exposure to environmental
contaminants, focusing on complex exposure matrices. The main duty
associated with this research-oriented position is independent
scientific research in the field, including research management,
research funding acquisition and engaging in international cooperation.
Furthermore, the duties involve lecturing and other teaching at the
Master’s and doctoral levels, supervision of academic theses,
development of education, and administrative tasks at the department and
university levels.
Applicants are required to have
experience in organizing and executing toxicological and/or clinical
studies as well as profound understanding of biological systems and
toxicological processes. Applicants’ understanding of multilayered
pathways and overlapping networks as well as skills in analysing data
from high throughput systems (omics-data) and combining clinical and
experimental data sets will be appreciated. His/her research should
complement, utilize and build on the department’s strong expertise in
environmental health, specifically toxicology of airborne exposures.
The
person can enter the Tenure Track position from the Assistant Professor
or Associate Professor level, depending on the qualifications of the
appointee. At the end of the term, the merits of the person will be
evaluated to determine whether he or she can proceed to the next level
in the Tenure Track without public notice of vacancy. The criteria,
objectives and results to be achieved during the term in order to
proceed to the next level of the Tenure Track will be agreed with the
appointee in detail when signing the contract of employment. An
Associate Professor can be invited to a professorship on the basis of
expert statements.
A person to be appointed as a Tenure
Track Assistant or Associate Professor shall hold a doctoral degree in
Toxicology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or closely related field and
have good teaching skills.
Furthermore, a person to be appointed
as an Associate Professor in the Tenure Track shall have the
prerequisites for fulfilling the qualification requirements of a
professor by the end of the Tenure Track term (UEF University
Regulations, Section 31).

Kuopio Center for Gene and Cell Therapy (KCT) is a modern research institute located in Kuopio, Finland. Our mission is to conduct high-level research on basic and translational fields of gene- and cell therapy. The centre’s niche is in the interface between academic, basic research and the commercial biotechnology industry. KCT provides an exciting environment for applied research and discovery, developing therapeutic products through Phase I clinical trials and utilizing some of the most advanced analytical and mechanistic proof-of-principle approaches in the sector. Opportunities for two highly motivated Senior Scientists have now opened at the KCT Immunotherapy Program to work in projects that revolve around cancer and immune cell genetic engineering. Both projects are already active in KCT and involve clinicians, academic teams and international collaborators.
Project 1. In this project, the successful candidate will be developing T and NK based cell therapy products for ovarian and brain cancers. Lentivirus technology and CRIPR-Cas will be utilized in genetic engineering of the cells for cancer targeting and improved performance in solid cancer treatments. The candidate will closely work together with KCT team developing clinical grade cell therapy product processes. KCT research team has already established in vitro and in vivo methods to further characterize and functionally test the developed products.
Project 2. In this project, the successful candidate will participate in establishing 3-D cultures and characterization of ovarian and brain tumors. Cell culture, immunological and molecular methods are extensively utilized. The candidate will also participate in single-cell sequencing and proteomics characterizations involving collaborative laboratories specialist in these techniques. The candidate will work together with KCT research team with extensive knowledge in cell biology, immunology and bioinformatics.
The successful candidates will be responsible for designing, implementing and overseeing the project. These duties will involve practical laboratory technologies, and therefore strong wet lab background is essential. This person will work closely together with internal project teams and external collaborators and therefore have excellent communication skills in English.
Education:
The successful applicant should hold or be about to obtain a PhD in a relevant field, such as cell biology, immunology, immuno-oncology or cancer biology.
Skills and experience in the following areas is highly desirable:
Project management
Strong overall wet lab experience
Cell biology methods, like primary cell isolation, 3D organoid culture, functional assays
Multicolor flow cytometry – panel design and data analysis
Gene editing technologies and advanced molecular methods
Setting up and developing functional assays and analytical methods
Furthermore, extensive understanding of such or related concepts as the human immune system activation and regulation or cancer immunosurveillance and cancer therapy is considered beneficial
Excellent teamwork and communication skills in English are essential

Haemme biologia (FM/FT) tai vastaavaa Veripalvelun tutkimus ja tuotekehitys -osastolle biopankkitoimintaan asiantuntijatehtävään. Tehtävä on määräaikainen 31.12.2020 asti.
Tehtävä
Veripalvelussa toimii kaksi biopankkia: Hematologinen biopankki, jonka omistavat Helsingin yliopisto, Suomen hematologiyhdistys ja Veripalvelu, sekä Veripalvelun Biopankki, joka rekrytoi verenluovuttajia. Biopankit ovat tutkimustoimintaa tukevia alustoja. Biopankkiin liittyjä antaa laajan suostumuksen näytteidensä ja tietojensa käyttöön biolääketieteellisessä tutkimuksessa. Veripalvelun biopankki toimii aktiivisesti mm. FinnGen-projektissa. Biopankit toimivat osana Veripalvelun tutkimus- ja tuotekehitysosastoa ja ovat viranomaisvalvonnan alaisia.

Haemme kahta tuotantoasiantuntijaa/tuotantopäällikköä Veripalvelun solutuotantokeskukseen Helsinkiin. Toinen tehtävä on vakituinen ja toinen kahden vuoden määräaikaisuus.
Tehtävä
Osallistut soluterapiaan ja uusiin soluvalmisteisiin liittyvän tutkimus- ja kehitystyön suunnitteluun, ohjaukseen ja toteutukseen. Osallistut tarvittavan dokumentaation valmisteluun viranomaiselle soluvalmisteiden toimilupa-asioissa. Tehtävänäsi on kehittää, validoida, raportoida ja ohjeistaa sovitusti uusia tuotanto-, laadunvalvonta- ja tutkimusmenetelmiä huomioiden voimassa olevat ohjeet ja viranomais-määräykset. Työskentelet mm. CART-soluvalmisteiden tuotekehitysprojekteissa yhdessä Veripalvelun yhteistyökumppaneiden kanssa.
Vastaat osaltasi siitä, että vastuualueesi toiminnot täyttävät Veripalvelun toimintajärjestelmän ja laboratorion laadunhallinnan sekä lain ja valvovien viranomaisten asettamat vaatimukset.
Osaamisesi
Edellytämme soveltuvaa ylempää korkeakoulututkintoa sekä kokemusta solubiologisesta tutkimuksesta tai soluterapiavalmisteisiin liittyvästä työstä.
Soluviljely on sinulle tuttua ja hallitset solujen karakterisointimenetelmiä. Soluterapiavalmisteisiin liittyvien viranomaisvaatimuksien (esim. GXP ja GMO) tuntemus ja kokemus soluterapiassa käytettävien virusvektoreiden kanssa työskentelystä katsotaan eduksi. Tehtävänimikkeeseesi vaikuttavat sekä kokemuksesi että mahdollinen pätevyys toimia ATMP-valmisteiden vapauttajana (Qualified Person). The research project is a part of the Biology and Physics of Pain in
Knee Osteoarthritis (BP-PAIN) Consortium that aims to study in detail
the biophysical and biological correlates of pain and dysfunction in
osteoarthritis. The project employs multi-disciplinary approaches
including cell cultures, high-content cellular imaging and metabolomics,
as well as gene expression studies, medical imaging and
neurophysiological analyses.
We are seeking a highly motivated
candidate with experience in cell cultures, biochemical analyses,
molecular biology and data processing. The position aims at the PhD
student completing a PhD degree within four years and enables the PhD
student to take part in supervising MSc students, scientific writing,
grant applications, scientific collaborations and teaching in suitable
areas. Good communication and writing skills in English are required.
A person to be appointed as an
early stage researcher shall be qualified to pursue postgraduate
studies, i.e. he or she is required to have completed a suitable higher
university degree or an equivalent education abroad which in the country
in question would qualify the person for similar academic studies. Positions of early stage researchers shall always be filled for a fixed term (UEF University Regulations, Section 31).
The position is initially filled for a
fixed-term of four years. The full-time position will start in
November 2019, or later by agreement.
The
salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary
system of Finnish universities and is based on levels 2-4 of the job
requirement level chart for teaching and research staff (€2,033.29 –
2,535.20/month). In addition to the job requirement component, the
salary includes a personal performance component, which may be a maximum
of 50 % of the job requirement component.

The research group of Prof. Kirsi Pietiläinen at the Obesity Research Unit, University of Helsinki,
located at Biomedicum Helsinki, is looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist.
The
translational lab Pietiläinen is focused on global metabolic profiling
of obesity by systems biology methods, transcriptomics,
proteomics, metabolomics and epigenomics, especially concentrating on
mitochondrial function in obesity in adipose tissue and muscle. The
clinical studies and sample collections include twin studies and weight
loss interventions. The group is part of the Center
