Laboratory technician
in Stem Cell Culture and Differentiation
starting from 1 January 2024 or as soon as possible.
The Pluripotency and Disease Modeling team, lead by Prof. Timo Otonkoski and Dr. Diego Balboa is interested in human pluripotent stem cell biology, differentiation and genome editing, and how these tools can be applied to understand mechanisms behind pancreatic beta-cell failure leading to diabetes. This is an international multidisciplinary team that combines approaches such as genome engineering in cellular model systems, single cell and functional genomics. It is funded by the Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence in Stem Cell Metabolism (MetaStem), the Wellcome Trust Foundation and the Novo Nordisk Foundation, among others.
The successful applicant will join a team of lab members working on stem cell-based modelling of genetic mechanisms relevant to diabetes treatment. The group is located at the Meilahti medical campus, the largest biomedical campus in Finland with excellent research facilities and networking opportunities.

We are now looking for an experienced Drug Safety Officer to our partner Aurealis Therapeutics for a permanent employment to be responsible for the drug safety management. You can be located at Kuopio or elsewhere in Finland, there is a possibility for working remotely.
In your position, you play a key role ensuring patient safety and be responsible for the safety aspects of the clinical development program. You work closely with CRO teams, sponsors, trial sites and your own team. Your responsibilities include drug safety and pharmacovigilance related advice and consulting, safety updates and reporting. You are also responsible for keeping up to date on all the applicable regulations and updating internal SOPs. You analyze and interpret information and check whether the medical and surgical history, concomitant medications and adverse events are coded and reported properly. Your responsibilities also include coordinating and establishing a global safety database together with external service providers, advisors, and consultants. You will work as a part of a dynamic team of 12 people and report to CMO (Chief Medical Officer).
The start date of the job is negotiable, but we wish you could start during the last quarter of calendar year 2023. You will be working full-time.
In order to succeed you will need to have:
2+ years previous experience in similar roles
Practical experience and understanding of drug development process in the field of clinical drug research, clinical trials and monitoring as well as drug safety and pharmacovigilance.
Degree in related field, e.g.,life sciences, healthcare, pharmacology
Deep knowledge of relevant regulations e.g., ICH/GCP/GVP and EMA, knowledge of FDA guidelines is advantage.
Experience working with CRO teams (external service providers)
Excellent organizational, decision-making, cooperation, and project management skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills (English)
Experience in chronic wound indications, medical coding (e.g. MedDRA, WHODrug) and working with safety database and EDC is considered as an advantage but are not a must. About the job
We are looking for two doctoralresearchers to join the research group of Associate Professor Eija Pirinen or Professor Karl-Heinz Herzigat the Biomedicine and Internal Medicine Research Unit, the Faculty of Medicine in a project aiming at the regulation of metabolic control for the treatment of obesity and metabolic diseases.
Description of the project: Mitochondrial dysfunction has emerged as a prominent feature in metabolically important peripheral tissues in obesity and metabolic diseases. Consequently, mitochondrial targeting is nowadays considered as a promising treatment approach for these diseases. In this project, we will elucidate novel treatment strategies to improve metabolic control. This research project is funded by the Biocenter Oulu as one of the spearhead projects related Lifelong Health focus area.
What you will do?
You will use in vitro and in vivo models to study the effect of novel treatment strategies on cellular, whole organ (spheroids) and animal metabolism. You will need to analyse the outcome using various biochemical assay systems. Animal licence and previous experience in the field of obesity and metabolic diseases is of advantage.

Starting gross salary will be approx. 2300-2600 € per month (before taxes). A trial period of 6months is applied in the position.

Antibody-Drug Conjugates Research Team is seeking a highly motivated, skilful, and independent Senior Scientist with experience in preclinical cancer research. You should have a track record of scientific excellence in modern cell- and molecular biology-based methodologies. As Senior Scientist you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and researchers to advance the discovery of novel cancer targets and participate in the development of the first/best-in-class Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs) from concept to clinical candidate phase. This position offers an exciting opportunity to apply the candidate’s expertise in cancer research and contribute to the development of potentially lifesaving therapies.
Key Responsibilities
The candidate for this position will:
Develop and execute strategies for target identification and evaluation.
Perform target validation studies such as analysis of target expression, quantification, distribution, internalization, and intracellular trafficking.
Conduct and/or coordinate in vitro experiments to assess the critical properties of ADCs and their components.
Establish and implement novel assays to characterize ADCs.
Provide cancer biology expertise and guidance for the project team/organization.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including medicinal chemists, pharmacologists, biologists, and clinical researchers to answer scientific questions and drive projects forward.
Take charge of collaborations and externally partnered research.

Antibody-Drug Conjugates Team is one of three scientific units in Oncology Research, a part of Orion’s R&D Organization. Essential Requirements
To be successful in this role, the candidate must have the demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following:
Ph.D. or master’s degree with 8+ years of academic or industry experience in a relevant discipline (Biological Sciences, Biochemistry or equivalent).
Understanding of cell and molecular biology and/or biochemistry in the context of cancer biology.
Knowledge and hands-on experience in cell- and molecular biology-based methodologies, including multichannel/multicolour flow cytometry, fluorescent and live cell microscopy, cytotoxicity assays, fluorescent labelling, qPCR, western blotting, and ELISA.
Experience with routine 2D cell culture models.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary research team, and mentor junior team members.
Strong desire to continue seeking new technological innovations supporting laboratory work.
Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Desirable Requirements
Experience in the design and development of biologics and/or conjugates.
Knowledge of bioinformatics and omics-type data analysis.

Turun yliopiston lääketieteellisen tiedekunnan biolääketieteen laitokseen kuuluva syöpätutkimusryhmä Medical Immune Oncology Research Group (MIORG, https://www.miorg.fi/) hakee innostunutta ja kokenutta tutkijatohtoria työskentelemään syövän immunoterapian kehittämiseen liittyvässä projektissa. Projektia johtaa Akatemiatutkija, dosentti Carlos Rogerio de Figueiredo. Tutkimusryhmän työkieli on pääasiassa englanti.
Käyttämällä käänteistä translaatiomallia tutkimusryhmässä hyödynnetään edistyneintä teknologiaa metastaattisen syöpänäytteiden profiloimisessa ja bioanalyysien tekemisessä sekä eläin- että humaanikudoksista keskittyen ensisijaisesti löytämään soveltuva biomarkkeri hoitojen kehittämisen järkeväksi suuntaamiseksi.
Tehtävään valittava tutkijatohtori johtaa tutkimusta, jossa keskitytään erityisesti innovatiivisten virtaussytometritekniikoiden käyttöön, mukaan lukien in vitro – ja in vivo -toimintatutkimuksiin pohjautuvat immunomekanistiset tutkimukset single-cell multi-color full spectral virtaussytometrillä. Tehtäviin kuuluu sytometrillä tehtävien kokeiden suunnittelu, toteuttaminen ja tarkkojen data-analyysien laatiminen. Tutkijatohtori tekee tutkimusta myös yhteistyössä ryhmän jatko-opiskelijoiden kanssa, ja häntä kannustetaan kehittämään muita alaan liittyviä tutkimushankkeita (mukaan lukien syövän immunogeeniset tutkimukset).
Tehtävä on kaksivuotinen ja alkaa tammikuussa 2024. On mahdollista, että tehtävä jatkuu tämän jälkeen (yhteensä 4 vuotta). Valitun henkilön toivotaan aloittavan tammikuussa, mutta aloituksesta voidaan neuvotella.

Turun yliopisto laajentaa tutkimustaan materiaali- ja konetekniikkaan, ja vuoden 2021 alusta aloitti uusi Teknillinen tiedekunta ja sen myötä Kone- ja Materiaalitekniikan laitos. Haemme nyt
yhtä määräaikaista tutkijatohtoria biolääketieteellisille rajapinnoille apulaisprofessori Emilia Peltolan johtamaan Terveysteknologian materiaalit -ryhmään.
Tehtävän aloitusaika on mahdollisimman pian, ja tutkijatohtorin työsuhde jatkuu 31.8.2026 saakka.
Jos olet kiinnostunut tutkimaan biolääketieteellisiä rajapintoja, kuulut tiimimme! Tässä tehtävässä sinulla on ainutlaatuinen mahdollisuus hyödyntää materiaalikemian ja -fysiikan ja rajapintailmiöiden ymmärrystä terveysteknologian antureiden kehittämiseksi. Anturiteknologia on tärkeä tekijä edistämään terveydenhuollon fokuksen siirtymistä sairaudenhoidosta ennaltaehkäisevään terveydenhoitoon. Tutkimusryhmämme keskittyy hermovälittäjäaineita, hormoneita ja malariaa mittaavien nanomateriaaleihin perustuvien sähkökemiallisten antureiden kehittämiseen. Pyrimme kontrolloimaan sähkökemiallista vastetta, anturin likaantumista ja elimistön vastetta suoraa elektrodin materiaalilla. Etsimme henkilöä, joka on aloitteellinen ja jolla on kokemusta apta-antureista ja/tai sähkökemiasta.
Vaatimukset
Tehtävässä edellytetään hyvät tiedot aptameereista ja/tai sähkökemiasta. Etsimme tutkijaa, joka parhaiten sopii meneillään oleviin projekteihin: Biohybridihiilimateriaalit naissukupuolelle tyypillisten hormonien mittauksessa. Tehtävässä menestyminen edellyttää sujuvaa suullista ja kirjallista englannin kielen taitoa.
Tutkijatohtorilla on oltava tohtorin tutkinto soveltuvalta alalta (esim. materiaalitekniikka, kemia, fysiikka, bioteknologia). Tohtorintutkinto tulee olla suoritettuna hakuajan päättymiseen mennessä.

Tehtäväkohtainen palkkaus määräytyy yliopistojen palkkausjärjestelmän opetus- ja tutkimushenkilöstön mukaisesti. Tutkijatohtorin palkkaus aiemmasta kokemuksesta ja osaamisesta riippuen on tehtävän alussa noin 3340-3530 euroa/kk.
Tutkijatohtorin tehtävissä on kuuden (6) kuukauden koeaika.

POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER
position, starting at 1.1.2024 in University of Oulu, Finland. Successful applicants will belong to the strategic Biocenter Oulu spearhead project headed by the professors Lauri Eklund and Vesa Kiviniemi providing highly complementary expertise in endothelial cell and molecular biology, advanced microscopic imaging, disease modeling, clinical neuroimaging, and brain clearance therapy research.
SUBJECT FIELD: Brain is metabolically highly active organ and requires an efficient system to remove the resulting waste, while failures in the clearance can cause Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The mechanisms which regulate waste clearance are incompletely understood.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Work will be carried out in the research group headed by Professor Lauri Eklund (at the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, Biocenter Oulu, University of Oulu) focusing on vascular biology and metabolic waste clearance mechanisms in the central nervous system. In this project we investigate roles of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in the brain clearance and pre-clinically test potential treatments to enhance brain clearance functionality. Research technologies mainly used are biochemical and cell biological methods, advanced microscopy, and genetic mouse models.
REQUIREMENTS: To successfully occupy the position, the candidate must possess a doctoral degree in the field of medical biochemistry, molecular/cell biology, or medicine and have expertise in the ECM and vascular biology. Prior experience in generation and analysis of gene-modified mice (knockout/knockin and cell-type specific inducible models); in biochemical, histological and advanced microscopic imaging methods; and knowledge in transcriptomic analysis are required. The ability to pursue independent research, supervise younger scientists, teaching experience and fluency in written and spoken English are expected. Priority is given to the applicant who can start on January 1st, 2024.

SALARY: The position is fixed-term for 4 years as of 1.1.2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The salary will be based on the levels 5-6 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 3600-4200 € per month (before taxes). A trial period of 6 months is applied in the position.
