We are a vibrant research lab of about 16 researchers, including postdocs, graduate students and highly skilled research assisting personnel. Our mission is to translate high-impact laboratory discoveries for the benefit of breast cancer patients. We are seeking an experienced laboratory manager, available immediately, to work at the interface of the Klefström lab and several HiLIFE research services, especially the Helsinki Virus (HelVi) core.

In the Klefström lab the candidate takes care of operational lab management and maintenance tasks, but also participates in a variety of research projects. In the HiLIFE HelVi unit the candidate will mainly focus on the management of the recombinant virus laboratory (BVC) including biosafety training and generation of lenti- and retroviral particles for in vitro and in vivo purposes.

We are looking for a lab manager with a higher vocational diploma or a master’s degree in molecular biology, biotechnology or equivalent. A successful candidate must have 5+ years of work experience in biomedical research, excellent communication skills in Finnish and English, experience in cell culture and molecular and cell biology methods and competence for operational lab management. Ideally, the candidate has a license and previous experience in in vivo methods and BSL2 gene transfer methods. We offer variety of tasks in a teamwork-spirited environment, as well as excellent possibilities to develop skills in vivo techniques and in state-of-the-art functional genomics and translational technologies.

Targovax Oy is currently looking for a CMC scientist to join our Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) team. The position is a fixed term for one year (1.1.2020 – 31.12.2020). Tasks

Your main responsibility will be leading the oncolytic adenovirus drug substance downstream process (purification process based on chromatography) development and up-scaling activities at external CMO/CRO collaborators. The key tasks will include designing experiments with sound scientific rationale, interpreting the results and steering the process development to obtain the project goals.

You will also participate in other activities, such as upstream process (cell culture) development, troubleshooting and risk assessment activities, CMO sourcing and supervision, analytical development, clinical supply and regulatory writing. This part of the work will be tailored based on your experience and interests.

Post-doctoral researcher in functional genomics and cancer epigenetics (available immediately) at the University of Helsinki

We are seeking a motivated and talented individual for studying the role of transcription factors and enhancer malfunction in various diseases such as cancer using modern genome-wide next generation sequencing (NGS) and CRISPR methods. These include but are not limited to transcription factor binding and activity (e.g. ChIP-seq), open chromatin (ATAC-seq), gene expression (bulk and single-cell RNA-seq), and 3D genome organization (in situ Hi-C). The candidate will be involved in generation and analysis of genome-wide functional genomics datasets to understand the epigenetic landscape and enhancer reprogramming in cancer.

The Enhancer Biology group (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/enhancer-biology) led by Dr. Biswajyoti Sahu belongs to the Applied Tumor Genomics Program in the Faculty of Medicine in University of Helsinki. The institute provides an excellent research environment with strong focus on cancer research and is very well-equipped with modern facilities for genomics, proteomics, microscopy and stem cell biology (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/helsinki-institute-of-lifescience/hilife-research-infrastructures). We offer the position in an ambitious, multi-disciplinary, and well-equipped group that is comprised of both wet-lab and computational scientists.

The candidate should have a PhD degree in any field of life sciences and a good understanding of biochemistry, genomics experiments and statistics is expected. Prior experience with mammalian cell culture, expression systems and molecular biology methods is required, and familiarity with NGS methods and analysis of high-throughput omics datasets will be an asset. Candidates with proven track record in terms of publications will be given preference.

With English as a working language, excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Knowledge of Finnish language is not required. The first contract will be for a period of one year with a six-month trial period and can be extended further depending on performance. Salaries are based on the Finnish universities salary system (YPJ) and is in the range of 40-45,000 euros per annum depending on experience level and includes good occupational health care, holiday and pension benefits.

Etsimme motivoitunutta tutkijatohtoria tai projektitutkijaa, jolla on mahdollisuus jatkaa työtä väitöskirjatyöntekijänä.

Häiriöt immuunijärjestelmässä ja lymfosyyttien toiminnassa johtavat tulehduksellisiin sairauksiin kuten nivelreumaan ja tyypin 1 diabetekseen. Projektissa selvitetään immuunivälitteisten sairauksien syntymekanismeja tavoitteena kehittää yksilöllisiä hoitomuotoja tulevaisuudessa.

Rekrytoivan organisaation kuvaus

Ryhmämme tutkii ihmisen immuunijärjestelmän säätelyä tavoitteena ymmärtää immuunivälitteisten sairauksien syntymekanismeja. Tämä on edellytys näiden tautien ja hoidon kehittämiseksi.  Tutkimme mm. lymfosyyttien epigeneettistä ja transkriptionaalista säätelyä molekyylitasolla.

Turun Biotiedekeskus  (https://bioscience.fi) on Turun yliopiston ja Åbo Akademin yhteinen erillinen laitos. Keskuksen tehtävä on edistää korkeatasoista tutkimusta ja koulutusta. Turun Biotiedekeskus tarjoaa moderneja teknologioita ja huippuosaamista  mm. seuraavilla tutkimuksen aloilla:yksisoluanalyysi, NGS, epigenomiikka, proteomiikka, laskennallinen biologia ja solunkuvantaminen.

Hakijoilta edellytetään:

  • Soveltuvaa tohtorin tutkintoa (erikoistutkijan/tutkijatohtorin tehtävä) tai soveltuvaa maisterin tutkintoa (projektitutkijan tehtävä) esim. luonnontieteiden tai biolääketieteen alalta

Postdoctoral Researcher position (fixed-term) for the period of 1 January 2020 – 31 December 2021.

The start of employment is negotiable. The position is fixed-term for 24 months with a possibility for extension. Trial period is 4 months.

We are seeking a highly motivated computational biologist to join the research group of Dr Teemu Niiranen (Department of Clinical Medicine) as a Postdoctoral Researcher. We work on a wide range of topics with a current focus on multi-omics analysis in large-scale population cohorts. The research can comprise both applied and methodological aspects depending on the candidate’s interests and expertise.

The duties of Postdoctoral Researcher include the analysis of population-level omics data (genomics, metagenomics, metabolomics etc.) aiming at groundbreaking biological discoveries. The key data sources include comprehensively phenotyped, large national and international human cohorts whose plasma and/or fecal samples have been analyzed in leading laboratories using high-throughput (metagenomic) sequencing and/or state-of-the-art mass spectrometry. Different project areas related to multi-omics data integration, analysis of longitudinal cohort data, and the discovery of personalized disease biomarkers are available.

Qualification Requirements

Qualification requirements for the position of a Postdoctoral Researcher are stated in the Rules of Procedure of the University of Turku. Postdoctoral Researcher is required to have an applicable doctoral degree. They should also be able to conduct research independently and possess teaching skills required in the position.

A suitable candidate has:

  • PhD in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Biology, Mathematics, Medicine or a related field
  • Relevant background knowledge including proven bioinformatics skills and a solid publication track record
  • Experience in statistical data analysis, integration, and visualization
  • Fluency in at least one data science language (such as Python, R, or Julia)
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Willingness to learn new and multidisciplinary skills as needed
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and English language skills
  • Good scientific writing skills

We also appreciate the following:

  • Familiarity with processing genomic, metabolomic, and metagenomic data
  • Experience with Linux/Unix environment
  • Experience with computing clusters, pipelines of batch jobs or cloud- and high-performance computing

Salary

The salary is determined in accordance with the salary system for universities. The salary of Postdoctoral Researcher is at levels 4–6 on the job demands chart of teaching and research personnel. The job-related salary element is 2535,20–3423,25 euros per month. In addition, a personal salary element will be paid. The personal salary element is a maximum of 50 % of the job-related salary element.

Turun yliopiston biolääketieteen laitoksessa on haettavana tohtorikoulutettavan määräaikainen tehtävä dosentti Ivaska-Papaioannoun tutkimusryhmässä. Tehtävä sisältyy Suomen Akatemian rahoittamaan tutkimushankkeeseen, jossa tutkitaan luuston erittämien säätelytekijöiden merkitystä energia-aineenvaihdunnassa.

Luu on metabolisesti aktiivinen kudos, joka erittää endokriinisesti vaikuttavia tekijöitä eli osteokiinejä. Osteokiinit säätelevät mm. glukoosiaineenvaihduntaa eläinmalleissa, mutta niiden merkitys ihmisellä tunnetaan heikosti. Tutkimusprojektin tavoitteena on tunnistaa verenkierrossa ja luuytimessä esiintyviä osteokiinejä ja tutkia niiden säätelyä, merkitystä ja diagnostista käyttöä.

Työtehtäviin sisältyy soluviljelyä, molekyylibiologiaa, proteiinianalytiikkaa sekä potilasnäytteiden ja koe-eläinten käsittelyä. Kaikki aiempi työkokemus ja vahva osaaminen edellä mainituista tekniikoista/menetelmistä katsotaan hakijalle eduksi. Ylempi korkeakoulututkinto esimerkiksi solubiologian, biolääketieteen tai biokemian alalta antaa parhaimmat edellytykset tehtävässä menestymiseen.

Turun yliopiston johtosäännön mukaan tohtorikoulutettavan tehtävään otettavalta edellytetään ylempää korkeakoulututkintoa ja hyväksyttyä tutkimussuunnitelmaa. Lisäksi edellytetään korkeakoulututkinnon suorittamisen yhteydessä tai muutoin osoitettua kykyä ja motivoitumista jatko-opintoihin ja tohtorin tutkinnon suorittamiseen tutkimussuunnitelman mukaisesti. Mikäli tehtävään valittavalla ei ole tohtorintutkinnon opinto-oikeutta häntä tehtävään valittaessa, tehtävä täytetään aluksi nimikkeellä projektitutkija.

Tehtävässä noudatetaan kuuden (6) kuukauden koeaikaa.

Tehtävä täytetään 1.1.2020 alkaen tai sopimuksen mukaan. Tehtävä täytetään 2-vuotiskaudeksi. Projektitutkijan/tohtorikoulutettavan tehtäväkohtainen palkkaus määräytyy yliopistojen palkkausjärjestelmän mukaisesti. Väitöskirjaa päätyönään tekevien henkilöiden osalta lähtökohtana on, että palkkaus määritellään työsuhteen alussa vaativuustasolle 2. Palkka on alkuvaiheessa vähintään 2155,29 e/kk.

Postdoctoral and/or PhD positions are available at the Institute of Biotechnology, University of Helsinki, in the laboratory of Dr. Nicolas Di-Poi. Our laboratory (http://www.biocenter.helsinki.fi/bi/di-poi/) is studying the evolution and development of craniofacial tissues in non-classical reptile model organisms displaying an exceptional array of morphologies and regenerative capacities. This is a new and exciting research field, with the goals to elucidate the developmental mechanisms of evolutionary changes but also to provide an evolutionary context to the key signaling pathways of tissue regeneration.

The research projects include complementary state-of-the-art methods, including cell biology, molecular embryology, high-throughput omics, geometric morphometrics and functional studies, and they offer an interdisciplinary environment for research training (see e.g., Nature Communication (in press), eLife 8:e47702 (2019), Nature Communication 9:376 (2018), Science Advances 2:e1600708 (2016)). The exact topic of research projects will be discussed in detail during interview.

The successful Doctoral and/or Postdoctoral candidates will have a genuine interest in multidisciplinary research and will hold an excellent Master Degree (or equivalent) and/or PhD in Biology with a specialization in Cell & Developmental Biology and/or Bioinformatics. In addition, the Postdoctoral candidate will have a proven record of excellence in the above-mentioned research areas, whereas the Doctoral candidate will have a strong potential for excellence in research. Previous experience with multi-omics data analysis and wet-lab work would be an asset for the Bioinformatics position.
