We are seeking for a postdoctoral or senior scientist to join our international multidisciplinary research group to work on computational systems medicine, particularly genome-scale metabolic modelling and biostatistical approaches to study (immuno)metabolism in health and disease. The positions will be located at the Turku Bioscience Centre, in systems medicine group led by Prof. Matej Orešič.
Key tasks and responsibilities
Integration of multi-omics data in health and disease (primarily metabolomics, (meta)genomics, single-cell omics, targeted proteomics, chemical exposures/exposome) via genome-scale metabolic modeling and various statistical/machine learning approaches. Primary research area is immune-mediated diseases such as type 1 diabetes.
Documentation, reporting, preparation of publications
Essential qualifications
A relevant PhD degree in computational systems biology, bioinformatics, metabolomics, or related field
Excellent practical knowledge of at least one of the following programming languages: R, Python, Matlab
High level of motivation, self-initiative and independency
Good knowledge of written and spoken English
Desirable qualifications
Strong publication record and expertise in computational biology, genome-scale metabolic modeling, fluxomics, or metabolomics
Project reporting experience and/or experience in applying project funding
Salary
Our selection criteria is based on the principle of finding the most qualified and suitable candidate for the work. In practice, this means that not only education, publications and working experience but also personal qualities, communication and motivation factors and other relevant criteria will be taken into account.
The salary is determined by the collective agreement system of Finnish universities and will depend on the degree and qualifications of the applicant. Salaried positions in Finland automatically include payments to a pension fund, unemployment funds, an extensive occupational healthcare, affordable sports services and even a holiday allowance. All these positions belong to the personnel group of teaching and research personnel.
The salary will be – depending on competence and experience – in average 3400 – 4500 eur/month.
Duration of contracts
The start of employments is negotiable, preferably in September 2022. The positions are fixed-term for 24 months, with a possibility for an eventual extension. Research assistant position is available in the research group of Professor Jukka Westermarck at Turku Bioscience Centre, University of Turku, starting on the 1st of September, 2022 (or as agreed) until the end of June, 2024.
The main task is to support experimental work in on-going research projects and to participate in data analysis. The work will be done in cooperation with experienced researchers and may include also laboratory animal work. The research assistant will also participate in maintenance and development of laboratory routines and techniques.
Successful applicants are expected to have Master of Science level education in natural sciences. The ideal candidate must be ready to learn new techniques/methods and continuously develop his/her skills, as well as be able to work well in international environment. Knowledge in Finnish language is not essential but good skills in English are required. Previous research experience in cellular signal transduction is an asset.
The salary is determined by the collective agreement system of Finnish universities. The position belongs to the category of “other personnel”, and the estimated salary is appr. 2030 – 2140 eur/month for a person with a MSc degree. Post starts with a 4-month trial period.

Post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Professor Jukka Westermarck at the Turku Bioscience Centre, University of Turku, Turku, Finland. We are looking for highly motivated researchers with PhD degree (or soon-to-be) to join our dynamic research group broadly focused on understanding the regulation and function of tumor suppressor Protein Phosphatase 2A (PP2A) in human cancers (https://bioscience.fi/research/cancer-cell-signaling/profile/).
This project is focused on characterization of novel PP2A-dependent mechanisms that potentially mediate synergistic oncogenic activities of RAS activation and PP2A inhibition. The question how RAS activity and PP2A inhibition synergize in cancer is of fundamental importance as PP2A inhibition is a molecular requirement for RAS-driven cellular transformation. Based on our recent phosphoproteome analysis, we have identified several interesting RAS/PP2A-regulated candidate mechanisms that could have widespread ramifications to cancer biology. Also, recent data from others and us indicate that PP2A reactivation may open entirely new perspectives for treatment of RAS mutant cancer patients with otherwise dismal prognosis.

Your responsibilities as Principal Scientist:
- Scientific project work in the fields of protein production and fungal biology
- Using your expertise in molecular biology and strain engineering to create excellent fungal production strains for egg white proteins
- Developing strain screening technologies and workflows for filamentous fungi
- Further developing our fungal expression platforms using the newest innovations
- Project team management
- Working with our bioprocess team to improve the strains and bioprocess conditions
Who we are looking for:
- Proven, excellent laboratory skills and experience in molecular biology techniques such as DNA cloning, genome engineering, protein analysis, protein purification, and possibly genome analysis
- Completed PhD in biotechnology, molecular biology, fungal biology, or related field.
- Three or more years of experience working with filamentous fungi
- Good written and spoken English skills
- Proven ability to effectively instruct other scientists or technical staff
- A person who exhibits effective leadership skills
- Someone with deep knowledge in the fields of fungal biology and strain development
- Industrial experience working in a biotechnology company would be a big plus

Clinical Trial Managers at IQVIA Biotech are responsible for the planning, implementation and execution of contracted clinical monitoring activities. They are functionally responsible for all clinical monitoring team members throughout the duration of each clinical trial.
Responsibilities of this role include:
- Working closely with the Project Manager to define programme targets for clinical monitoring staff and ensure work is documented within the contracted project scope.
- Development and implementation of Clinical Monitoring Plan.
- Responsibility for ensuring the needs of the clinical sites are met by facilitating the monitoring processes
- Coordination and oversight of daily operations of the clinical monitoring team.
- Management of project milestones and proactively address deficiencies
- Management of CRA performance
Requirements
- BSc degree or equivalent in Life Sciences/Nursing
- Prior experience as trial/study manager or strong background as Lead CRA
- Thorough knowledge of clinical research process
- Prior experience as Clinical Research Associate
- Strong communication skills
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Excellent organisation and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Understanding of basic data processing functions, including electronic data capture
- Ability to work independently, prioritise and work within a matrix team environment
This role is permanent, full time and home based in the UK or EU.
We are particularly interested in candidates with oncology or medical devices experience plus at least one of cardiovascular, neurology, immunology, dermatology or internal medicine.

Etsimme Turun ammattikorkeakoulun Terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin sektorille bioanalytiikan, biokemian, kliinisen kemian tai mikrobiologian asiantuntijaa vakituiseen lehtorin työsuhteeseen bioanalytiikkakoulutukseemme.
Haemme joukkoomme innostunutta ja innovatiivista osaajaa, jolla on laaja-alaista ja monipuolista kokemusta tutkimus- ja kehittämistoiminnasta (TKI), opetuskokemusta ja itsenäistä sekä joustavaa työotetta tulevaisuuden ammattilaisten osaamisen kehittämiseen.
Asiantuntijana päätehtäviisi kuuluu TKI-hankkeissamme toimiminen sekä bioanalytiikkakoulutuksen opetus- ja liiketoimintatehtävät. Lisäksi ohjaat opiskelijoidemme opinnäytetöitä ja toimit monialaisissa tiimeissä.
