About the job
Orion is seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Chemical Biologist to join our Molecular Prospecting and Modeling Unit. As a key player in the discovery and development of new therapeutic agents, you will contribute to groundbreaking advancements in pharmaceutical science. If you are a Chemical Biologist who has combined aspects of chemistry and biology and used chemistry to study and manipulate biological systems at the molecular level, then you are the right person for us.
Description Of Position
As a Chemical Biologist within our Molecular Prospecting and Modeling Unit your knowledge and expertise will blend with medicinal chemistry, drug discovery, structural biology, and computational modeling to help in the planning and execution of hit finding strategies for Orion’s discovery programs. You will be closely collaborating with Orion’s Pain and Oncology research department scientists in defining how to interrogate the function of target proteins or molecular mechanisms involved in Orion’s early research ideas and research projects. In this role you will take part in defining the assays that will be used in hit finding and lead optimization as well as in the design and creation of chemical and biological tools required for setting up the assays. You will also play a pivotal role in establishing and developing chemical biology related capabilities for our research organization. It is crucial to collaborate with cross-functional teams, identify suitable partners, and orchestrate the planning and execution of the chemical biology strategy for seeking novel molecular mechanisms of action. Experimental work will be through partner networks.
The position is full-time role based in Espoo, Finland. Frequent travelling is expected between our main research sites in Finland (Espoo and Turku).
Description Of Orion And Our Unit
Orion’s pharmaceutical innovations are created within its R&D organization, including non-clinical research, clinical development, formulation development and medical affairs. The organization employs top professionals in the field of drug molecule discovery and development https://www.orion.fi/en/science/pipeline/
Medicine Design Department contributes to the drug discovery process of Orion R&D from target validation all the way to the clinical candidate nomination. We are responsible for translating new drug targets to therapeutical modalities together with other line functions. The Molecular Prospecting and Modeling unit is part of the Medicine Design department. The unit is responsible for defining and planning the hit finding strategies for early ideas and research projects, tailored to address the needs of each unique target protein with an overall balanced approach. The unit is also responsible for all the computational small molecule drug discovery efforts within the Orion R&D. Moreover, DNA-encoded library chemistry is handled by the unit. The unit consists of experienced lead chemists working on the early projects and hit finding as well as computational scientists who contribute to project science from early idea phase up to clinical candidate selection, from structural biology questions to ligand design and from modeling method development to data visualization support.
