LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
The aim of our research is to understand how cancer mutations activate oncogenic programs and how these programs lead to cancer progression and metastasis, with the long-term goal of translating this knowledge into novel therapeutic approaches and patient benefit. We are looking for a laboratory technician to participate in our scientific efforts and to help manage the day-to-day activities of a research laboratory. The tasks will consist of laboratory management and experimental work. The responsibilities will also include supervision of other members of the team.
The Functional Cancer Genomics group consists of biomedical scientists with diverse backgrounds and expertise. We have strong international connections and work in a collaborative manner towards shared goals. After eight years at the University of Cambridge, the team is moving to Helsinki, and will be located at Biomedicum Helsinki within the Academic Medical Center Helsinki, which provides a multidisciplinary research environment for basic and translational research with state-of-the-art facilities, cutting-edge technologies and synergistic expertise of several research groups.
A successful candidate has a higher vocational diploma or a master’s degree in molecular biology, biotechnology or equivalent. Excellent skills in basic molecular biology techniques and experience in culturing cancer cell lines is mandatory. Experience with laboratory animal work is considered an advantage. An ability to work independently and with precision is essential. Successful implementation of your tasks will require technical precision, independent problem-solving ability, excellent communication and organizational skills and the capability for teamwork.
The position is available as soon as the selected candidates are available. The project allows initially a three-year fixed-term position. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience based on the University guidelines.
