The position is located in the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine of the University of Oulu (http://www.oulu.fi/fbmm/), whose mission is to perform internationally significant research and to deliver high-level undergraduate and post-graduate education in the fields of biochemistry and molecular medicine. The Faculty’s research focus areas are cell-extracellular matrix, protein science and cellular regulatory and metabolic networks and related diseases. The research lines are carried out by 14 research groups. The Faculty has collectively about 200 employees and about half of them are from abroad. Subject field and the description of the position The FET open project MindGAP is aiming to characterize CNS originating Extracellular Vesicles from the blood of cancer patients undergoing therapy. The project involves EV isolation from biofluids and primary human cell culture, Characterization of EV surface molecule, RNA analysis (ddPCR and Next Generation Sequencing) and collaboration with other members of the consortium, in Portugal and Oulu. We are looking for a candidate with strong molecular and cellular biology background and interest for Extracellular Vesicles. Experience with liquid biopsy, Extracellular Vesicles RNA/ DNA, surface protein isolation, bioinformatics/ neurobiology is an advantage. The duration of the position is from September 1st 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter, ending in March 31st 2023. Required Qualifications and assessment The successful applicant must hold an MSc degree in life sciences (Biology/ Biochemistry). Candidates whose master thesis will be submitted by the application deadline will also be eligible. Good oral and written English skills, good communication and teamwork skills are required. A six-month trial period will be effective in the beginning of a contract. Salary The salary is in accordance with the University salary system (for teaching and research personnel) levels 2-4. In addition, there is a share increase at most, 50% of the base salary, which is based on personal achievements and performance.
