Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time PhD position at the National University of Ireland, Galway. The position is funded from Science Foundation Ireland
(Tissue Engineered Nanoassemblies of Advanced Biomimicry of Living Equivalents Projects). The position is available immediately. Stipend (€16,000 per year) and EU fees are covered from the grant. The project aims to develop cell therapies based on induced pluripotent stem cells.

Qualifications:
The candidate should have a 1st class or a 2:1 honours first degree and a Master’s in cell biology, tissue engineering, biomedical engineering, medicine, biology, or in a related area. The ideal candidate should have experience in as many of the following techniques: in vitro culture systems (e.g. 3D culture; bioreactors); cell (permanently differentiated, stem cells, engineered cells) biology; molecular biology; protein / gene analysis; histology; and immunohistochemistry. Candidates should have excellent communication and organisational skills; be highly motivated and passionate about developing new products; and have strong written, oral and interpersonal skills. The candidate should be able to work independent and as a part of team.
Duties:
Cell acquisition from human and animal tissues; In vitro / ex vivo cell / organ culture; development of advanced therapy medicinal products; In vivo work; Conference / Meeting attendance; Report / paper writing; Attendance to various training courses; Other duties relevant to the post.
Start Date:
The post is available from May 2017 onwards.
