Post-doctoral researcher in functional genomics and cancer epigenetics (available immediately) at the University of Helsinki
19.11.2019We are seeking a motivated and talented individual for studying the role of transcription factors and enhancer malfunction in various diseases such as cancer using modern genome-wide next generation sequencing (NGS) and CRISPR methods. These include but are not limited to transcription factor binding and activity (e.g. ChIP-seq), open chromatin (ATAC-seq), gene expression (bulk and single-cell RNA-seq), and 3D genome organization (in situ Hi-C). The candidate will be involved in generation and analysis of genome-wide functional genomics datasets to understand the epigenetic landscape and enhancer reprogramming in cancer.
The Enhancer Biology group (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/enhancer-biology) led by Dr. Biswajyoti Sahu belongs to the Applied Tumor Genomics Program in the Faculty of Medicine in University of Helsinki. The institute provides an excellent research environment with strong focus on cancer research and is very well-equipped with modern facilities for genomics, proteomics, microscopy and stem cell biology (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/helsinki-institute-of-lifescience/hilife-research-infrastructures). We offer the position in an ambitious, multi-disciplinary, and well-equipped group that is comprised of both wet-lab and computational scientists.
The candidate should have a PhD degree in any field of life sciences and a good understanding of biochemistry, genomics experiments and statistics is expected. Prior experience with mammalian cell culture, expression systems and molecular biology methods is required, and familiarity with NGS methods and analysis of high-throughput omics datasets will be an asset. Candidates with proven track record in terms of publications will be given preference.
With English as a working language, excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Knowledge of Finnish language is not required. The first contract will be for a period of one year with a six-month trial period and can be extended further depending on performance. Salaries are based on the Finnish universities salary system (YPJ) and is in the range of 40-45,000 euros per annum depending on experience level and includes good occupational health care, holiday and pension benefits.
Details on the project and other informal queries are very welcome and should be sent to biswajyoti.sahu@helsinki.fi.
Applications should include a single-PDF file containing:
(1) one-page cover letter describing your research goals, interest and motivation;
(2) recent curriculum vitae (CV);
(3) publications; and
(4) two-three letters of reference (not just the names) must be sent to: biswajyoti.sahu@helsinki.fi.
Incomplete applications or with missing requirements will not be considered.
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis till a suitable candidate is found and the position is available immediately.
