Postdoctoral researcher (Atherosclerosis Research, specialization Immunology and/or Genetics), 2 positions – University of Eastern Finland
16.10.2020https://rekry.saima.fi/certiahome/open_job_view.html?did=5600&jc=16&id=00009901&lang=fi
The University of Eastern Finland, UEF, is one of the largest multidisciplinary universities in Finland. We offer education in nearly one hundred major subjects, and are home to approximately 15,500 students and 2,700 members of staff. We operate in Joensuu and Kuopio. In international rankings, we are ranked among the leading universities in the world.
The Faculty of Health Sciences operates at the Kuopio Campus of the University of Eastern Finland. The Faculty offers education in medicine, dentistry, nutrition and pharmacy, as well as in some other central fields of the health care sector. The Faculty is research-intensive, and its internationally recognised research activities are closely linked to the strategic research areas of the University. There are approximately 2 500 degree students and about 450 PhD students in the Faculty. The faculty has 680 staff members. http://www.uef.fi/en/ttdk/etusivuWe are now inviting applications for
two Postdoctoral Researcher positions in Atherosclerosis Research (specialization Immunology and/or Genetics), at the University of Eastern Finland, Faculty of Health Sciences, A.I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences, Kuopio Campus. The Cardiovascular Genomics Laboratory led by Associate Professor Minna Kaikkonen-Määttä at the A.I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences in Kuopio https://uefconnect.uef.fi/en/group/cardiovascular-genomics-kaikkonen-lab/ is looking for motivated postdocs with a successful publication record and holding a PhD degree in molecular / cell / systems biology, immunology, genomics, genetics, or in a related field. The overall goal of the lab is to elucidate cell-type specific mechanisms that underlie the development of atherosclerosis. We employ a wide array of next-generation sequencing methods to study disease-associated gene regulatory mechanisms in primary human cell cultures and mouse models of disease. Our research also makes use of large population cohorts (e.g. UK Biobank) to study mechanisms of disease susceptibility and gene-environment interactions. Here, our main interest is to understand the function of non-coding variants located within cell type specific regulatory elements (enhancers and promoters).
Applicants are encouraged to indicate one or more potential matches to the following research areas:
• High throughput assays (CRISPR genetic screens, cell-based drug screening, single cell sequencing, RNA-binding protein profiling)
• Experimental data analysis (RNA-Seq, single cell analysis; minimum requirement is solid skills in R)
• Immunology (especially macrophages in inflammatory diseases or atherosclerosis)
• Genetic epidemiology (statistical genetics, gene–environment interactions, machine learning, eQTL analysis)
A person to be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher shall hold a suitable doctoral degree. Positions of postdoctoral researchers shall always be filled for a fixed term (UEF University Regulations, Section 31).
The person to be appointed to the Postdoctoral Researcher Position is required to hold a doctoral degree, which may not have been completed more than five years ago at the time of accepting the position.
