The University of Eastern Finland is inviting applications for a Project Researcher, Bioinformatics, Multimodal Biomedical Data Analysis, position at the Kuopio campus at the Institute of Biomedicine. The position will initially be filled until 31 December 2025, starting from 1 September 2022 (or starting date as agreed). Please find more information below and submit your application no later than 12 August 2022.
Role and salary
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Project Researcher with a PhD interested in a career path as a core facility expert to join the UEF Bioinformatics Centre to develop multimodal biomedical data analysis solutions, that is a central area recognized by the UEF research communities in cancer, metabolic, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. The hosting core facility is located on the UEF Kuopio Campus, School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences. The infrastructure is also part of Biocenter Finland Bioinformatics core.
The current services include state-of-the-art genomics and genetics data analysis workflows. The main role of the Project Researcher will be to develop and lead multimodal data analysis services in close connection with biomedical and data analysis experts from the research communities. Modern biomedical research expands from disease genetics to characterization of the disease phenotype at multimodal (omics, imaging) levels. The goal of the bioinformatics core facility is to contribute to this research excellence through innovative data integrative solutions and multimodal methods.
The project will offer a unique opportunity to develop expertise in combining genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, clinical and imaging data from the local cohorts as well as other resources like FinnGen. UEF’s core facilities in genomics, metabolomics, and biomedical imaging will offer opportunities to network with domain experts.
The main responsibilities of the Project Researcher will be to develop and implement data integrative pipelines and multimodal analysis methods in R, Python and/or shell languages. You will join a growing local network of bioinformaticians and be able to use the high-capacity computational infrastructure of the local Bioinformatics centre (https://bioinformatics.uef.fi/). As an employee of a Finnish university, you will also have access to the national computational infrastructure of the CSC https://www.csc.fi/). The position also offers a possibility to participate in teaching and research projects in computational biomedicine.
The position will be filled initially until 31 December 2025, starting from 1 September 2022 (or starting date as agreed). Possible continuation of the position can be agreed separately. The position will be filled for a fixed term due to it pertaining to a core facility development project. A probationary period is applied to all new members of the staff.
