Project Researcher, Neurosciences

The University of Eastern Finland invites applications for a Project Researcher position at the A.I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, Kuopio campus. The positions will be filled for a 2-year-term from 1 December 2022 (or as agreed). Please find more information below and submit your application no later than 14 October 2022.

Role and salary

As our new Project Researcher, you will be working at the A.I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, in the group led by Professor Tarja Malm (https://www.uef.fi/en/web/aivi/tarja-malm-group). The position is filled for a fixed term due to the project work. A probationary period is applied to all new members of the staff.

The salary is determined according to the salary system of Finnish universities and is based on level 5 on the job requirement chart for teaching and research staff. In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which ranges from 6% to 50% of the job requirement component. With the level 5 job requirement component and the personal performance component, the starting salary will be from 3,348 to 3,866 euros per month.

Requirements and expectations

We are looking for an expert in stem cell biology and culture to work with advanced induced pluripotent stem cell –derived 3D models in research addressing disease-specific mechanisms, phenotypes and functions. We routinely carry out electrophysiological measurements, various omics analyses and live cell imaging.

The candidate should have a PhD degree in neuroscience, molecular biology or another relevant discipline. The candidate is expected to have in-depth experience in iPSC cultures and differentiation protocols for relevant brain cell types. In addition, the candidate should have basic knowledge of cellular biology. Enthusiasm and commitment along with attention to detail and adherence to good laboratory techniques are needed. Good knowledge of written and spoken English is essential. An ideal candidate must have a high degree of independent thought and initiative. Recommendations from two previous and recent supervisors are needed.Team: At UEF, you will join a very active and well-equipped group of neuroscientists studying various aspects of neuronal function and neuroinflammation in the context of different neurological diseases.
