We are now inviting applications for

a Project Researcher (Neurosciences)
position, Faculty of Health Sciences , A.I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences, Kuopio Campus

We are looking for a candidate to assist and carry out research on regulatory non-coding RNA networks in cerebral ischemia. The work includes culturing of primary and secondary neuronal cell lines and analysis of non-coding RNAs under different disease-associated stimuli, manipulation of therapeutic miRNAs (overexpression and knockouts) and functional assays of cells. The chosen candidate will be

Candidate profile: The candidate should have a Master’s degree in cell biology, molecular biology, biomedicine or in a relevant discipline and experience in basic cell cultures and working in sterile conditions. In addition, the candidate should have basic knowledge of cellular biology. Enthusiasm and commitment will need to be coupled with attention to detail and adherence to good laboratory techniques.
Good knowledge of written and spoken English is essential. An ideal candidate will have a high degree of independent thought and initiative. The candidate is expected to have a letter of recommendation from two previous and recent supervisors / PIs.

Team: At UEF, you will join a very active and well-equipped group of neuroscientists studying various aspects of neuronal function and neuroinflammation in the context of different neurological diseases. We offer training in relevant stem cell technologies and assays to evaluate functional outcomes.

The position is filled for a fixed-term one-year period starting from 1 April 2020 or as agreed. The position is filled for a fixed-term due to it pertaining to a specific project.

The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities and is based on level 2 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff (€2,033.29/ month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which may be a maximum of 50 % of the job requirement component.
