The Faculty of Health Sciences operates at the Kuopio Campus of the University of Eastern Finland. The Faculty offers education in medicine, dentistry, nutrition and pharmacy, as well as in some other central fields of the health care sector. The Faculty is research-intensive, and its internationally recognised research activities are closely linked to the strategic research areas of the University. We are now inviting applications for

a Senior Researcher (Cardiovascular targeted gene therapy vectors for precision medicine) position, A. I. Virtanen Institute, Kuopio Campus
Requirements for the position are specific skills and practical experience in the design, generation and use of Lentiviral and/or Adeno-Associated Virus vectors with an ability to achieve targeted integration into so-called safe harbors in human genome and experience in conducting advanced bioinformatic analyses of deep sequencing data for the identification of genomic integration sites. Additional merits will be experience from other genomic integration technologies, such as homologus recombination and CRISPR/Cas methods, and experience in leading translation of site-specific integration technology from in vitro stage to in vivo experiments in cardiovascular area. Position will be located at the A.I.Virtanen Institute in the Molecular Medicine Research Group and it belongs to the Finnish Academy Center of Excellence in Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases and in UEF Research Community of Basic, Translational and Clinical Cardiovascular Diseases.
A person to be appointed as a senior researcher shall hold a suitable doctoral degree and have good teaching skills. Positions of senior researchers may be filled permanently or for a fixed term (UEF University Regulations, Section 31).

English may be used as the language of instruction and supervision in this position.

The position is filled for a fixed term from 1.11.2019 to 31.8.2023. The position is filled for fixed term due to defined project aims and restricted duration, as well as project funding fixed for this initiative (Profi 5, HEALTHLIFE).

The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities and is based on levels 6 – 7 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff (€3 423,25 – 3 946,50/month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which may be a maximum of 50 % of the job requirement component.
