Orion Pharma is seeking a Research Scientist or Senior Scientist to join its new VivoScience unit within the R&D and Innovative Medicines organisation in Turku, Finland. This permanent laboratory-based role focuses on histopathology and in vivo studies supporting Orion’s core therapy areas in Pain and Oncology.

In this role, you will design, develop, and troubleshoot histopathological assays, perform image analysis, and conduct pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) and tolerability studies. You will contribute from early discovery to translational research and early clinical development as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, validate, and troubleshoot histopathology assays (e.g. IHC, ISH) for drug response evaluation and target validation.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative image analysis of histological samples.
  • Plan, conduct, and analyse preclinical PK/PD and tolerability experiments in compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
  • Identify and implement new technologies to enhance laboratory capabilities.
  • Generate, analyse, and report scientific data independently.
  • Supervise and mentor research associates.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, including CROs.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacology, Biochemistry or related field; alternatively MSc with 4–5 years of relevant experience.
  • Authorisation to design animal studies for scientific purposes.
  • Hands-on experience in IHC and ISH assays and antibody validation.
  • Proficiency in histological image analysis; QuPath experience is an advantage.
  • Skilled in microscopy, imaging systems, and analysis software.
  • Experience in designing and analysing in vivo PK and PK/PD studies in rodents, including study protocols and reports.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent English; Finnish is an advantage.
  • Programming experience (R, Python) or interest in AI-driven solutions is desirable.
