The Faculty of Health Sciences operates at the Kuopio Campus of the University of Eastern Finland. The Faculty offers education in medicine, dentistry and pharmacy, as well as in some other central fields of the health care sector. The Faculty is research-intensive, and its internationally recognised research activities are closely linked to the strategic research areas of the University. a Postdoctoral Researcher position School of Pharmacy, Kuopio Campus
A person to be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher shall hold a suitable doctoral degree. Positions of postdoctoral researchers shall always be filled for a fixed term (UEF Administrative Regulations 30 §). The doctoral degree should be in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacy, or an equivalent closely related field.
The doctoral degree may not have been completed more than five years ago at the time of accepting the position. In this context, the 5 years refer to a net period of time, which does not include maternity leaves, parental leaves, or military service, etc.
The language requirements associated with the position are defined in the Government Decree 770/2009. Members of the university’s teaching and research staff are required to have command of the language they give teaching in (Finnish or Swedish). The Dean of the faculty may grant an exemption from the language proficiency requirements laid down in the Government Decree.
The research group (http://www.uef.fi/eye/io) constitutes part of the emerging research areas identified in the strategy of the university. We are looking for an energetic and committed researcher to work on research projects focused on revealing mechanisms of age-related macular degeneration and developing new therapy options for the disease. The work will include determination of cellular responses and deciphering intracellular signalling.
We are primarily looking for a researcher with solid experience in cell laboratory work, capability of planning research projects, as well as ability to perform fluently basic protein chemistry and immunology methodology. An organised, independent, and problem-solving working attitude is expected, and the applicant should have an ambition for improving existing methodology. Our group offers a chance to work together with both basic researchers and clinicians in a truly translational setting.
The position will be filled initially for one year preferably from 1.4.2017 to 31.3.2018. Positions of postdoctoral researchers shall always be filled for a fixed term (UEF Administrative Regulations 30 §).
The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities and is based on level 5 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff (€2.865.30/ month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which may be a maximum of 46.3% of the job requirement component.
