an Early Stage Researcher (Molecular Biology) or a Postdoctoral Researcher position (Molecular Biology) – School of Medicine, Institute of Biomedicine, University of Eastern Finland (Kuopio campus)
2.7.2020The University of Eastern Finland, UEF, is one of the largest multidisciplinary universities in Finland. We offer education in nearly one hundred major subjects, and are home to approximately 15,500 students and 2,700 members of staff. We operate in Joensuu and Kuopio. In international rankings, we are ranked among the leading universities in the world.
The Faculty of Health Sciences operates at the Kuopio Campus of the University of Eastern Finland. The Faculty offers education in biomedicine, medicine, dentistry, nutrition and pharmacy, as well as in some other central fields of the health care sector. The Faculty is research-intensive, and its internationally recognised research activities are closely linked to the strategic research areas of the University. There are approximately 2 500 degree students and about 450 PhD students in the Faculty. The faculty has 680 staff members. http://www.uef.fi/en/ttdk/etusivu
We are now inviting applications for
an Early Stage Researcher (Molecular Biology) or a Postdoctoral Researcher position (Molecular Biology), School of Medicine, Institute of Biomedicine (Kuopio campus).
A position for a motivated Early Stage Researcher or Postdoctoral Researcher is available in the Academy of Finland funded project “Transcriptional regulatory mechanisms of anti-inflammatory glucocorticoid signaling“ led by university researcher Einari Niskanen (PhD, docent) at the Institute of Biomedicine (School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, Kuopio campus).
The project explores molecular mechanisms of glucocorticoid signaling. The focus is on chromatin events that lead to transcriptional repression of inflammatory genes in macrophages. The project utilizes state-of-the-art mass spectrometry and genome-wide techniques in a tight association with modeling of transcriptional regulation. A researcher selected for this position will be analyzing molecular mechanisms of glucocorticoid and inflammatory signaling using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry and genome-wide approaches.
A person to be appointed as an early stage researcher shall be qualified to pursue postgraduate studies, i.e. he or she is required to have completed a suitable higher university degree or an equivalent education abroad which in the country in question would qualify the person for similar academic studies. Positions of early stage researchers shall always be filled for a fixed term (UEF University Regulations, Section 31).
Successful early stage researcher applicant has i) a MSc degree (or nearly completed) in molecular biology, biomedicine, or equivalent suitable field, ii) strong interest to science and commitment to completion of a doctoral degree, and iii) curiosity towards developing one’s lab skill in proteomics and genome-wide techniques. Prior experience (courses, MSc thesis project, work practice) in lab-work (cell culture, deep-sequencing sample preparation e.g. ChIP-seq, RNA-seq) is considered an advantage.
A person to be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher shall hold a suitable doctoral degree. Positions of postdoctoral researchers shall always be filled for a fixed term (UEF University Regulations, Section 31).
The person to be appointed to the Postdoctoral Researcher Position is required to hold a doctoral degree, which may not have been completed more than five years ago at the time of accepting the position. In this context, the 5 years refer to a net period of time, which does not include maternity leaves, parental leaves, or military service, etc.
Successful postdoctoral researcher applicant has a doctoral degree (or nearly completed) in molecular biology, biomedicine, or equivalent suitable field, and a suitable track record of projects. Prior experience in sample preparation and analysis of next-generation sequencing, proteomics, or single-cell techniques is considered an advantage.
Good command of English language is required.
The position of the Early Stage Researcher is filled for a fixed term from 1.9.2020 to 31.8.2024 (or later by agreement). The position of the Postdoctoral Researcher is filled for two years (possible extension to four years) from 1.9.2020 to 31.8.2022. The position is filled for a fixed term due to project work (the Academy of Finland funded project studying “Transcriptional regulatory mechanisms of anti-inflammatory glucocorticoid signaling“’).
The salary of the early stage researcher position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities and is based on levels 2 – 4 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff (€2,055.66 – 2,563.09/month).
The salary of the postdoctoral researcher position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities and is based on level 5 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff (2,967.84 €/month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which may be a maximum of 50 % of the job requirement component.
For further information on the position, please contact University Researcher Einari Niskanen, +358 29 445 4044, einari.niskanen@uef.fi (e-mail preferred).
