Bioinformatician/computational biologist Post-doc wanted! – Bioinformaatikon (Post Doc) paikka avoinna
25.6.2018The University of Helsinki is a leading international university with a strong world-wide ranking in life science research. Helsinki Institute of Life Science, HiLIFE, is a new life science institute at the University of Helsinki established in 2017 supporting high quality research across campuses and life science faculties.
The Academy of Finland funded Center of Excellence, MetaStem, launched in 2018, brings together four competitive groups (three with ERC funding) at the University of Helsinki working on Stem Cell Metabolism using mouse and fly models, primary cell culture, organoid models and human derived pluripotent stem cells.
The groups of Pekka Katajisto (http://www.katajisto-lab.com/) and Ville Hietakangas (http://www.biocenter.helsinki.fi/bi/hietakangas/) at MetaStem invite applications for a joint

The Bioinformatician will work in close cooperation with experimental biologists on projects relating to metabolic control of cell fate in multiple stem cell systems and model organisms. The bioinformatician will analyse and integrate data generated for example by single-cell RNA sequencing, ATACseq, and metabolomic approaches. The research is conducted in collaboration with international partners (e.g. in Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm), and short research visits and training abroad is possible.
A suitable candidate holds a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. bioinformatics), with previous experience in analysing functional genomics data and a solid expertise on related statistics. Sufficient understanding of biology is essential in order to allow smooth cooperation with experimental biologists.
