About the job
You will be working with and supported by a group of enthusiastic researchers in a multidisciplinary project that combines historical, archaeological and genetic methods to study the early history of poultry and horses in Northeastern Europe. This project is also a part of the research of the Wildlife Genomics Research group (https://wildlifegenomics.wordpress.com/). Specifically, you will produce and analyze genomic data obtained from archaeological finds of poultry and horses from the region around the Baltic Sea.

We expect that you have:
A PhD in biology (or a relevant field) obtained no more than ten years ago, and prior experience in bioinformatic analyses of genomic data, and knowledge of population genomics
Demonstrated effective writing skills through high-quality publications, including some international experience and networking

The Faculty of Bio and Environmental Sciences is looking for a
RESEARCH TECHNICIAN/LABORATORY COORDINATOR IN ECOLOGICAL AND EVOLUTIONARY GENOMICS AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY.
The position is permanent, with a 6-month trial period. The position starts 1st June 2025, or by mutual agreement.
Research technician/laboratory coordinator assists Faculty research teams in conducting molecular biology and genomic analyses in ecologically relevant species. Tasks include, for instance, DNA and RNA extraction, next-generation sequencing (e.g. bulk and single-cell RNA-seq), targeted SNP assay development and analysis, and related bioinformatic methodologies. Additional tasks may include ordering reagents, database maintenance, assistance with animal and plant experiments, training new lab members and assisting other lab members as needed.
The successful candidate is expected to have experience with at least some of the above-mentioned techniques and be enthusiastic about learning others. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with excellent organizational skills and good English communication skills. The RNAcious laboratory at the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Helsinki, is recruiting a doctoral researcher to study how pathogens utilize RNA-based mechanisms to further infection in prokaryotic model organisms.
The RNAcious laboratory, led by Dr Peter Sarin, is at the forefront of exploring RNA-based mechanisms that modulate protein synthesis in response to abiotic and biotic stresses. We utilize state-of-the-art LC-MS and RNA-seq techniques to address significant questions in tRNA biology, for example how post-transcriptional tRNA modification dynamics influences host and pathogen translation during infection, how adaptation of tRNA modification affects neoplastic proliferation, and how tRNA modifications may be utilized to tune translation.
We are looking for a skilled doctoral researcher (PhD student) that will work in a vibrant and international research environment as part of a Research Council of Finland funded project on RNA-mediated pathogenicity mechanisms in prokaryotic models. The successful applicant will primarily work on characterizing the role and dynamics of viral RNA-based components during infection. Furthermore, participation in additional subprojects that explore RNA-based translational regulation in other model organisms is encouraged. The project entails collaborative aspects with other teams and universities and will be tailored together with the successful applicant based on their interest and prior experience.
Qualifications Eligible applicants are required to have an applicable second-cycle university degree, an applicable second-cycle degree from a university of applied sciences, or an applicable education at an institution abroad providing eligibility for equivalent higher education in the country in question. The degree must be in a relevant field of research, such as molecular biology, microbiology and/or virology, biochemistry, genetics, or biotechnology, or provide equivalent skills and knowledge.
Prior experience in microbial characterization, translation studies, RNA-seq, and/or applicable bioinformatics is considered an advantage. Furthermore, successful applicants are expected to be competitive in national and international funding schemes. Good communication skills in English (oral and written) are essential, as are enthusiasm for the topic, strong motivation to learn and adapt new skillsets, and readiness to work with diverse teams.
Position details A successful candidate will be employed initially on a full time, two-year fixed-term contract starting in September 2025 (or at a later date, by agreement). Upon positive evaluation, the contract may be extended to a total of four years (from the original start date of the position). A six-month trial period applies.

Hanke tutkii solujen biofysikaalisia sopeutumismekanismeja ympäristön stressitekijöihin sekä kehittää uusia menetelmiä yksittäisten molekyylien dynamiikan kvantifiointiin ja ymmärtämiseen.
Monet mikro-organismit kestävät ankaria ympäristöolosuhteita, kuten äärilämpötiloja, säilyttäen kuitenkin solunsisäisen tasapainon ja organisaation. Tutkimusta varten käytämme huipputason superresoluutio-mikroskopiaa ja yksittäisten molekyylien seurantamenetelmiä mitataksemme molekyylien liikkettä elävissä soluissa. Molekyylien dynamiikka kertoo niiden välisistä vuorovaikutuksista reaaliajassa ja toimii anturina solun sisäisen ympäristön muutoksille.
Tämä auttaa meitä ymmärtämään mikro-organismien sopeutumista erilaisiin ympäristöihin ja solupohjaisen elämän rajat. Tutkimus edistää myös synteettisen biologian sovellusten ja uusien analyysiratkaisujen kehitystä.
Tehtävän rooli ja tavoitteet
Etsimme innostunutta ja motivoitunutta tutkijatohtoria, joka haluaa hyödyntää superresoluutio-mikroskopiaa ja yksittäisten molekyylien seurantamentelmiä tutkiakseen lämpötila-adaptoitumista termofiilisissa, mesofiilisissa ja psykrofiilisissa bakteereissa. Mikroskopian lisäksi projektissa hyödynnetään geneettistä muokkausta, biokemiallisia menetelmiä, RNA-sekvensointia, koneoppimista ja mallinnusta yksittäisen molekyylidatan tukemiseen.
Sovellat olemassa olevia ja kehität uusia menetelmiä sekä protokollia biologisiin mittauksiin ja datan analysointiin. Tuloksia käytetään hypoteesien testaamiseen ja todentamiseen. Toteutat myös yhteistyöprojekteja ryhmän jäsenten ja muiden yliopistojen tutkijoiden kanssa. Olet oma-aloitteinen ja itseohjautuva tutkija, joka organisoi projektinsa tehokkaasti ja esittelee tulokset ryhmänsisäisissä ja ulkoisissa kokouksissa ja seminaareissa.
Tiimisi
Tukimustyön ohjaajana toimii Assistant professori Jarno Mäkelä, joka johtaa Yksittäisten molekyylien dynamiikka soluissa -tutkimusryhmää. Monitieteinen tiimimme koostuu mikrobiologian, mikroskopian, biofysiikan, insinööritieteiden ja koneoppimisen osaajista. Tiimi mahdollistaa yhteistyöhön perustuvan ympäristön, jossa tutkijat saavat jaettua tietoa ja kokemusta mikroskopiasta, kokeellisesta laboratoriotyöstä, datan analysoinnista ja mallintamisesta.
Työskentelemme useiden aiheiden parissa fysiikan, kemian ja biologian rajapinnassa: solunsisäinen organisaatio, makromolekyylien pakkautuminen, neste-neste-faasierottelu, proteiinien dynamiikka jne. Tutkimusryhmän tarkoituksena tukea ja inspiroida sen jäseniä, antaa akateemista koulutusta ja kehittää keskeisiä taitoja tulevaisuutta varten.

We are seeking an IVF biologist for a permanent position at Felicitas Mehiläinen fertility clinic in Helsinki. Your role will include laboratory work related to IVF treatments, which involves handling of gametes and embryos, cell culture, freezing and thawing, ICSI and Trophectoderm biopsy is an advantage. You will also participate in maintaining laboratory monitoring and quality control.
We seek a background in biology or another equivalent higher education degree and already have an experience in laboratory work. Previous experience in IVF biology is considered an advantage. English language is accepted. Finnish is an advantage. We expect you to have a careful and precise work approach, good interpersonal skills, patient oriented and have positive working attitude. We offer a versatile expert position in an interesting, rapidly developing environment and the opportunity to develop your skills in a multidisciplinary team.

The role

In your role as a Laboratory Analyst/Technician, your work is skilful and precise execution of laboratory experiments primarily related to DNA extraction and detection using versatile methodologies, such as PCR, qPCR, and DNA sequencing. In addition to daily laboratory operations, your work includes documentation of results. We are expecting you to adhere to our agreed high standards and HSE practices.

Adamant Health’s service healthcare service providers is a measurement and analysis service consisting of both medical and non-medical devices.
We are looking for a highly organized Clinical Trial Manager to coordinate and oversee the clinical investigation (post-market) of Adamant Health’s medical device, ensuring the trial is conducted efficiently, on time, and within the budget. This role involves collaborating with the clinical trial team at Adamant Health and the research sites (clinics) in Finland and Germany. In addition, collaborating with external stakeholders, e.g., for site monitoring or with authorities for the study approvals, notifications, and reporting, is required to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and uphold trial quality.
The ideal candidate has a structured way of working with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. A solution-oriented mindset, flexibility, and a client-focused way of working help to succeed in the work at a start-up company.
Responsibilities:
Together with the Chief Scientist at Adamant Health, set the targets and milestones for the clinical trial project implementation.
Organize regular study meetings within the company and be responsible for reporting on the trial progression.
Coordinate collaboration with the clinical investigation sites.
Follow up and ensure that the study sites are properly trained and that they are following the study protocol.
Contribute to the trial-related documentation.
Develop and implement study-specific clinical monitoring processes and documentation.
Organize site visits and monitoring, ensuring compliance with clinical trial requirements.
Collect, review, and verify clinical trial documentation for accuracy and completeness.
Ensure compliance with relevant SOPs, regulations, and guidelines.
Manage and oversee the clinical trial budget.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing, health sciences, or another relevant field.
Previous experience as a trial manager in clinical investigations, preferably of medical devices.
Good understanding of the related standards (especially ISO 14155) and national and EU-based regulations (Laki lääketieteellisestä tutkimuksesta 488/1999, MDPG in Germany, and EU MDR 2017/745).
Comprehensive understanding of the ethical principles and evaluation process and good clinical practice (GCP) guidelines. Valid GCP certificate.
Practical experience with using medical devices and software.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office-based and similar tools.
Ability to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Willingness to travel as required.
Considered as a plus:
Previous experience with Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems and electronic case report forms (eCRFs).
Previous experience with study monitoring.
Practical experience with neurological patients.
Previous experience with the DMIDS platform in Germany.
Good communication skills in German.
Knowledge of FDA regulations.
