Laboratory coordinator in stem cell biology – University of Helsinki, Helsinki

4.6.2023 | Avoimet työpaikat

https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/3616439875

About the job

Laboratory coordinator position in stem cell biology

The Lengefeld laboratory is working on understanding how the failure to regenerate tissue with age is a major health issue. A contributor to this decline is the loss of stem cell function. Despite the essential role of stem cells, it is still unclear how they fail to maintain their functions during aging and disease. We discovered a new aspect of stem cell aging in vivo: cellular enlargement. With age and damage, stem cells increase in size causing their functional decline. However, we are only beginning to understand how size impacts stem cell fitness and the physiological importance of this process remains unsolved.

The laboratory of Assistant Professor Dr. Jette Lengefeld is inviting applications for a lab coordinator position. This laboratory coordinator position harbors several functions. The main responsibility is to organize the day-to-day actions of the laboratory and research. The main activities are listed below:

  • Conducting own research and supporting research projects of lab members. Tasks will include mouse genotyping, cell culture, stem cell isolation using flow cytometry, data management and microscopy.
  • Coordination of lab structure involving maintaining of mouse colony and lab materials
  • Performing administrative task for grant applications and management, organization of research meetings and bills

Qualifications and experience:

We expect the suitable candidate to hold an B. SC., M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in the field related to biology; knowledge in experimental mouse work and cellular biology are beneficial. The candidate should be fluent in English. Finnish skills are considered as an advantage but are not required.

Salary and contract:

The position is offered for a fixed term of five years 2023 -2028 or as negotiated. Salary will depend upon the applicant’s level of skills, knowledge, and abilities and is based on the university salary system. A trial period of 6 months will be applied.
