Description of position
- Supervise and build up the Disease Biology team of Senior Scientists and Scientists in in vivo and in vitro research
- Ensure the resourcing and optimal plans to forward the research projects in NDD and pain
- Build-up of target validation from in vitro to in vivo and bring in new technologies and protocols
- Contribute to translational models, and how to translate from bed-to-bench and back
- Generate and evaluate new project ideas with the other pain/NDD scientists
- Work closely with NDD and pain directors and VP of CNS TA to build the CNS Strategy and portfolio
You will be based in Turku, Finland and report to the Vice President of R&D, CNS Therapy area.

Description of the unit
Orion’s pharmaceutical innovations are created within its R&D organization, including e.g. non-clinical research, clinical development, formulation development and medical affairs. The organization employs top professionals in the field of drug molecule development and optimization.
Therapy area of the Central Nervous System (CNS) is accountable for the research and development of medications for neurodegenerative diseases (NDD) and chronic pain at Orion. Our team builds the R&D CNS portfolio and CNS strategy in close collaboration with business and all R&D global functions. You will be based in Turku, Finland and report to the Vice President of R&D, CNS Therapy area. The job title will depend on the experience and other title options can be considered.

Requirements PhD in neurosciences/pain with at least 10 year Post doctoral experience Large network in neurosciences/pain and smoothly collaborating with Internal & External partners (academic and industrial, etc.) Industry experience is an advantage Excellent organizational and people leadership skills Successful experience and interest in heading a large team and supervising Profound expertise of ALS, PD and/or pain related disease mechanisms Deep interest, expertise, experience and skills in some of the following entities: Establishing, characterizing and implementing state-of-the-art cellular models to unravel disease mechanisms in pain and/or neurodegenerative diseases (PD & ALS) Establishing, characterizing and implementing state-of-the-art animal models to unravel mechanisms in pain and/or neurodegenerative diseases (ALS, PD) such as Tg, KO, KI Molecular and cell biology techniques, Gene editing & viral vector technologies and Microscopy & imaging techniques
