Open position for a postdoctoral researcher at the Obesity Research Unit, University of Helsinki

Research Programs Unit of the Faculty of Medicine is a top-quality research environment. Unit’s five research program comprises groups that integrate clinical, translational and biomedical research. The Clinical and Molecular Metabolism program (starting 2019) brings together the best research in the field of diabetes and obesity in Finland.
Group Pietiläinen’s aim at the Obesity Research Unit is to identify mechanisms behind obesity-related metabolic disturbances and to study their novel treatment options. Her research is especially focused on mitochondrial function in obesity in adipose tissue and muscle, and the group is part of the Center of Excellence for Research on Mitochondria, Metabolism and Disease (FinMIT) http://www.fin-mit.fi/en/ .
Pietiläinen group invites applications for a position of
POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER
beginning from 1.1.2019 till 31.12.2019.
The applicant should have
o Doctoral degree
o Strong background in obesity and/or mitochondrial metabolism.
o Background in basic biology, cell cultures, preferably adipocytes and myoblasts, as well as in other laboratory techniques, especially those regarding mitochondria.
o Background in bioinformatics or biostatistics and handling of omics datasets is of special advantage
o Innovative and creative thinking
o Ability to work independently
o Outstanding written and oral English skills

Salary will be based on the Universities salary scheme for teaching and research personnel composed of both task specific (demand level 5) and personal performance components. Trial period will be applied.
