Job description

Subject Field And Description Of The Position
The research focus for the position within a structural and chemical biology team will be on setting up various cell assays as well as participation to structural and functional studies of human tankyrases and complexes formed with other proteins.The details of the research project will be mutually agreed upon, based on the qualifications, interests, and expertise of the candidate. Candidates with expertise on structural biology, cell biology or other supporting techniques will be considered.
The duration of the position is 2 years ending in August 31, 2020. The starting date is August 1, 2018, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Required Qualifications And Assessment
The successful applicant must hold a PhD degree in cell biology, biophysics, structural biology, biochemistry or a related field. Candidates whose PhD thesis has been submitted by the application deadline will also be eligible. Experience with molecular cell biology, recombinant protein expression different hosts, post-translational modifications, X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM will be considered as assets.Fluency in both written and spoken English, as well as good communication and teamwork skills are required. Demonstrated experience in writing scientific publications, potential in acquiring supplementary funding and teaching experience will be taken as merits. When assessing the applicant’s qualifications, issues to be considered will include scientific publications, supervision experience, activity in the scientific community and familiarity with the research field.As part of the FBMM, the duties may also include supervising scientific research of BSc, MSc, and PhD students. Participation in teaching within the faculty curriculum and in acquiring research funding is expected.A six-month trial period will be effective in the beginning of a 2-year contract that may be extended based on performance and availability of funding.
Salary
The salary will be based on level 5 or 6 of the demand level chart for university-level teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 46.3 % of the job-specific component). The salary is in practice roughly 3,300 – 4,100 € / month, depending on qualifications, performance, and experience.
