The Cancer Genomics team is recruiting an experienced Research Scientist/Senior Scientist in the field of cancer research. As a Research Scientist/Senior Scientist in Oncology Research, you participate in novel target identification and validation both conceptually and hands on by working in the lab. Being an expert in the cancer research field, you are responsible for the identification and execution of new ideas and concepts in cancer research. You also ensure high quality assays that support small molecule discovery, while being part of cross-functional project teams. With a strong background and understanding of mechanisms that drive cancer, you will be part of a dynamic and enthusiastic research team consisting of research assistants and scientists, that translates novel concepts in cancer research into life-changing therapies. This position is based in Turku, Finland.
Main responsibilities:
- Proactively contributing to the identification, evaluation and scientific validation of novel oncology targets, including hands on laboratory work
- Planning, performing and overseeing high quality target validation experiments and mechanistic in vitro studies based on genetic tools or tool compounds
- Leading the design and set up of cellular/biochemical/binding assays as the responsible in vitro pharmacologist as part of cross-functional project teams
- Analysis, interpretation and communication of research results to colleagues in other departments as well as management
- Coordination of collaborations with other functions and external partners
- Accurate documentation of research and screening results

Requirements
A successful applicant has several years of experience in hands on laboratory work and expertise in the field of oncology research
- PhD in the field of cancer biology and/or 5+ years of cancer research experience in industry or academia
- Deep understanding of genomic alterations and signaling pathways that drive cancer cell behavior
- Knowledge and hands on experience in different in vitro, ex vivo and/or in vivo cancer models
- Broad technical experience in cell-based and molecular biology assays, and ability to translate knowledge into new methods
- Flexibility and willingness to learn new techniques and take additional responsibilities as a member of a research team
- Excellent oral and written communication and team working skills
- Skills to coordinate simultaneous activities in several projects
A succesful candidate is required to have several years of hands on experience in a variety of cellular and molecular biology assays, such as imaging, flow cytometry, immunoassays and biochemical assays. Understanding and prior experience in utilizing different type of disease-relevant omics-databases is a plus. Industry experience is an advantage, but not required.
