We are seeking a full-time postdoctoral scientist for a Business Finland funded life science research project led by Dr. Sarah O’Keefe and Dr. Brendan Battersby at the Institute of Biotechnology, HiLIFE, University of Helsinki, Finland. The research project capitalises upon innovative technology to enhance recombinant protein synthesis in mammalian cells and to consolidate this research into a start-up biotechnology spin-out company.

Project Description

MITOGUARDER is a 2-year life science research project to commercialise our invention for enhanced recombinant protein production. As part of our scientific team, your research will contribute to the securement of intellectual property rights protections and facilitate evaluation of our innovative recombinant protein platform by 16 academic project partners across Europe and the US. You will engage with our wider team of commercialisation experts (our Commercial Champion and Helsinki Innovation Services) and our 5-member Advisory Board, gaining valuable experience in all aspects of research innovation, start-up formation and business development.

DelSiTech is growing fast and progressing in partnered and in-house development projects into non-clinical and clinical studies. We are now looking for an experienced nonclinical expert to execute and coordinate non-clinical drug development programs at DelSiTech.

Main tasks of the nonclinical drug development expert are:
– Providing non-clinical expertise for in-house and customer drug development programs
– Planning, executing and reporting of non-clinical pharmacokinetic, toxicity/safety and efficacy studies using external non-clinical service providers
– Conducting pharmacokinetic calculations in non-clinical in vivo studies
– Participation in communication with regulatory authorities as a non-clinical expert
– Participation in building a GXP quality management system in the company

We expect the applicant to have an applicable MSc or PhD degree in natural/pharmaceutical sciences and at least 5 years’ working experience in non-clinical drug development, preferably in pharma/biotech industry in a GLP environment. Previous knowledge in in-vivo pharmacokinetic calculations using relevant software is required. Understanding of non-clinical toxicity and safety studies and both in vitro/in vivo pharmacology would be valuable. Also, experience in interaction with regulatory authorities as well as non-clinical service providers both in Finland and abroad related to non-clinical development is appreciated.

  • Ph.D. in chemical biology, biochemistry, organic chemistry, or a related field.
  • Post-doctoral or industrial experience (3+ years).
  • Proven experience in using chemical biology approaches for target validation.
  • Strong background in molecular and cellular biology techniques,

DOCTORAL RESEARCHER

The Varjosalo lab has a longstanding interest in the understanding of how key cellular signaling molecules; protein kinases and transcription factors mediate their signaling potential and how the signaling is changed in diseases in the immunology and oncology axis. For this purpose, we have developed experimental and computational methods to identify the protein-interactions formed by these signaling molecules, and established assays to study the activities, substrates and targets for these proteins. Additionally, we employ high-end quantitative mass spectrometry -based proteomics to assess quantitative protein changes, as well as phosphorylation status of the tissues/cells. Furthermore, combining the data from the different sets of ‘omics’ data (proteomics, sequencing, HTS), allows us to generate global and systems level understanding on how disease-causing mutations mediate their effects, also enabling the development of therapeutic or diagnostic approaches.

We are looking for a highly-motivated candidate with a master’s degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, bioinformatics or other relevant fields. We expect the candidate to have practical experience with “wet lab” work and strong interest in the development and application of modern instrumentation. Experience in proteomics is considered an advantage. The candidate should work well in a team as she/he will be integrated into an international research team of experts in system biology. The position is starting from early spring 2024, and is initially for two years. A trial period of 6 months will be applied, and the salary will be based on the Universities salary scheme for teaching and research personnel composed of both task specific and personal performance components. POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

The Varjosalo lab has a longstanding interest in the global and comprehensive understanding of how key cellular signaling molecules; protein kinases and transcription factors mediate their signaling potential and how the signaling is changed in diseases in the immunology and oncology axis. For this purpose, we have developed experimental and computational methods to identify the protein-interactions formed by these signaling molecules, and established assays to study the activities, substrates and targets for these proteins. Additionally, we employ high-end quantitative mass spectrometry -based proteomics to assess quantitative protein changes, as well as phosphorylation status of the tissues/cells. Furthermore, combining the data from the different sets of ‘omics’ data(proteomics, sequencing, HTS), allows us to generate global and systems level understanding on how disease-causing mutations mediate their effects, also enabling the development of therapeutic or diagnostic approaches.

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher that has extensive practical experience in standard biochemistry/molecular biology/cell biological methods, ideally encompassing proteomics and microscopic techniques and/or bioinformatics. The ideal candidate is an adaptable team-player with excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written, and good organizational skills.

Further degree requirement for postdoctoral position: The degree requirement must be met by the beginning of the employment.

This position will provide multiple opportunities for collaborations with potential lab visits abroad and cross-disciplinary scientific exchange. Job description

We are now looking for a Junior Microbiologist to join our Bio Lab Team in Finland.

You will work as a part of the Bio Lab Team, consisting of microbiologists and laboratory technicians, and your work will include tasks related to the maintenance and development of the laboratory operations.

As a vital member of our team your key tasks will include:

  • Plant hygiene and environmental monitoring related tasks
  • Development of rapid microbiological methods
  • Planning and performing microbiological analyses, result inspection and interpretation
  • Testing microbiological quality of paints and their raw materials
  • Tasks related to testing the effectiveness of paint preservatives
  • Development and maintenance of test methods

We expect you to have a Master’s degree in microbiology, and work experience in positions in the same field is considered an advantage. You are flexible and hands-on, willing and eager to take on both practical laboratory tasks as well as being involved in development initiatives.

To succeed in this role, you have excellent collaboration skills, you speak and write fluently in both Finnish and English. You are a team-player with a growth mindset with excellent technical and analytical thinking.
