Job Description
Your task will be to develop and apply statistical modelling and machine learning methods on research question in nutrition, food sustainability and different diseases. The data used for the research are modern large, high dimensional with complex structures, such as population, purchase, patient and omics data sets. The topic of the research will be defined together with the postdoctoral researcher.
The workplace is located at Kauppi Campus, Tampere University and the work is mainly done at the office.
In addition to the doctoral dissertation, the duties of a postdoctoral researcher may include participation in education or other faculty tasks that support your studies. These tasks may not exceed 5% of the total working time.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in statistics, bioinformatics, computational biology or other field suitable for the position
- A track record of publishing high quality research
- Strong experience of the use of professional data analysis software such as R, SAS, STATA or Python
- Methodological and theoretical skills in statistics and computing
- Fluent skills in English

The postdoctoral researcher position will be filled from at the beginning of May 2023 or as mutually agreed. The position is a fixed-term period of 12 months with a possibility of extension.
A trial period applies to all our new employees.
The salary will be based on both the job demands and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System . According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of is placed on the job demands levels 5-6. A typical starting salary for postdoctoral researcher is around 3500 EUR/month. In addition, employees receive performance based salary.

What will you do?
The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical pre- and post-sales support for all nucleic acid products supporting RNA and oligonucleotide therapeutics. Support will be provided to Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ customers and Account Managers in all facets of their selling activities. The Field Applications Scientist will perform product capabilities seminars, troubleshooting and training sessions with end customers and sales reps. Your Responsibilities
- Provide expert product, application and consultation to customers and sales

Your profile
- BA/BS in the life sciences (Masters or PhD preferred)

- Experience in a customer-facing support role

We are looking for an excellent Postdoctoral Candidate to work in the field of rheumatic diseases in a HORIZON-EUROPE Consortium.
The position will be at the Helsinki University, Faculty of Medicine, research program unit TRIMM, Helsinki Rheumatic Diseases and Inflammation Research Group led by Professor Kari Eklund. We are located at Meilahti Campus. You will be part of multidisciplinary team in 4-year HORIZON-EUROPE Consortium project composed of top leading universities in Europe starting in January 2023.
HORIZON-EUROPE Consortium ENDOTARGET project, the main aim is to explore the relationship between gut microbiota, intestinal permeability, and systemic endotoxemia (SE). Further we aim to understand their role as drivers of disease onset and disease activity in osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and spondylarthritis (SpA). as well as targets of preventive and therapeutic approaches. We will study the events leading to disease onset by taking advantage of geographically diverse large cohorts of people with available blood and feces samples with extended follow up times before and after the onset of the diseases of interest.
Your main research objectives/activities, with emphasis on computational analysis of quantitative data, will include: (1) To explore the role of intestinal permeability in development of systemic endotoxemia (SE) and in the risk of RA, SpA, and OA.; (2) To discover novel biomarkers and proteomic profiles for intestinal dysbiosis, SE, and RA, SpA and OA; (3) To characterize the inflammatory and metabolic effects of diverse gut-derived LPS/bacteria on cells of the synovial joint; (4) Quantification and structural characterization of LPS in serum and synovial fluid of RA and OA patients

Työpaikkakuvaus
Turun yliopiston lääketieteellisen tiedekunnan biolääketieteen laitoksessa on haettavana opetushoitajan määräaikainen tehtävä (sijaisuus) 31.1.2024 asti. Tehtävään valitun toivotaan aloittavan mahdollisimman pian tai sopimuksen mukaan.
Opetushoitajan tehtävät liittyvät kaikkiin biolääketieteen laitoksen koulutusohjelmiin (lääketieteen, hammaslääketieteen ja biolääketieteen koulutusohjelmat sekä kansainväliset maisteriohjelmat Biomedical Imaging ja Drug Discovery and Development).
Opetushoitajan tehtävänkuva on opetusta koordinoiva ja tukeva: Tehtäviin kuuluu opetusohjelmien ja lukujärjestysten laatiminen yhteistyössä mm. lukuvuosijohtajien ja opetushenkilöstön kanssa, opetuksen teknisten edellytysten ja tenttien organisointi, opiskelijoiden ja opettajien yhteyshenkilönä toimiminen, opinnoista tiedottaminen ja muut opetushoitajan tehtävänkuvaan kuuluvat tehtävät riippuen valittavan henkilön osaamisesta ja koulutuksesta. Opetushoitajan tehtävään kuuluu myös osallistuminen niihin tiedekunnan opintohallintotehtäviin, joihin yleisesti tiedekunnan opetushoitajat osallistuvat.
Tehtävän menestyksellinen hoitaminen edellyttää soveltuvaa korkeakoulututkintoa. Eduksi katsotaan kokemus koulutussuunnittelusta, pedagoginen osaaminen, opetettavien opintokokonaisuuksien ja yliopistossa käytössä olevien sähköisten oppimisympäristöjen ja opintotietojärjestelmän tuntemus (esimerkiksi Peppi ja Moodle), laboratorioalan tuntemus sekä ruotsin kielen taito. Työssä tarvitaan hyviä vuorovaikutus-, organisointi- ja tietoteknisiä taitoja sekä hyvää englannin kielen taitoa. Tehtäväkohtainen palkkaus määräytyy yliopistojen palkkausjärjestelmän muun asiantuntija- ja tukihenkilöstön vaativuustason 8 mukaisesti, jolloin tehtäväkohtainen palkanosa on 2640,49 euroa kuukaudessa. Tehtäväkohtaisen palkanosan lisäksi maksetaan henkilökohtaiseen suoriutumiseen perustuvaa palkanosaa. Työsuhteen alussa palkka on n. 2798-3089 euroa/kk riippuen valitun hakijan aiemmasta kokemuksesta.

Tehtävänkuva:
Tehtäväsi ydin on asiakaspalvelutyö Biomedicumin toimipisteessä. Neuvot asiakkaita heidän ongelmissaan, selvität eteen tulevia kysymyksiä ja ennen kaikkea autat asiakasta löytämään parhaan mahdollisen ratkaisun, joka soveltuu hänen tarpeisiinsa. Lisäksi tehtäviisi kuuluvat tilausten käsittely ja tavaran vastaanotto. Asiakaspalvelukokemus katsotaan eduksi.

A doctoral researcher position (PhD student) is available in the laboratory of Professor Jukka Westermarck at the Turku Bioscience Centre. We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with MSc degree or equivalent to join our international research group. The group broadly focuses on very exciting therapeutic potential of phosphatases in cancer therapy. Recent very rapidly accumulating data from others and us indicate that pharmacological phosphatase targeting may open entirely new perspectives for treatment of cancer patients with otherwise dismal prognosis. The project is focused on characterization of novel therapeutic opportunities emerging from our recent research related to role of phosphatases in breast cancer development and drug resistance.

How You Will Contribute
Senior Medical Affairs Scientist (Sr MAS) leads and executes medical strategies for demonstration and communication of the therapeutic value of assigned Pfizer product(s) in healthcare and for the optimization of patient outcomes.
Sr MAS uses a science-based and customer-focused approach to advance medical engagement, clinical research, data generation and co-creation of innovative solutions based on customer needs. In this position the Sr MAS will work within the Hospital and Covid portfolio Medical Affairs team in Finland within the therapeutic area of infectious diseases.
The key responsibilities in this role include:
- Develops and implements customer-focused medical strategies for the assigned Pfizer product(s) in Finland
- Acts as the scientific point of contact for HCPs, academia, and other ext. stakeholders
- Leads medical to medical communication in the therapeutic area and drives personalized interactions across multiple channels and builds enduring relationships with key stakeholders and institutions
- Proactively identifies possibilities and digital solutions to optimize patient outcomes in collaboration with internal colleagues and external partners
- Advances Pfizer-sponsored clinical research in country in close collaboration with Clinical Research colleagues and proactively identifies local research opportunities and high-performing trial sites
- Advances KOL and institutional involvement in Pfizer-sponsored research and identifies and drives research collaborations with key customers
- Actively Identifies data gaps for pipelines assets and actively collaborates with Medical Affairs Data Expert and H&V colleagues in generation of value-based data strategies and plans.
- Actively collaborates with above-country colleagues and external stakeholders on pipeline assets for evaluation of local data generation opportunities and ensuring value-based data at launch and across the entire product life cycle
- Provides innovative solutions and exercises independent judgment in developing tactics and criteria for achieving objectives
- Contributes to company strategies and plans by providing medical input through actionable customer insights
- Proactively builds strategic partnerships and strong collaboration with internal colleagues and effectively leads cross-functional teams
- Is a key contributor to ensure company’s high ethical medical standards and compliance
What We Expect
- Higher academic degree in relevant science area, with strong scientific skills and/or clinical experience. MD, PhD or PharmD is a preference
- Several years of professional experience in a relevant area
- Business acumen and high level of industry understanding
- Ability to work in an international setting in a matrix organization
- Deep scientific knowledge and competence in the therapeutic area
- Strong communication and presentations skills and ability to deliver scientific and strategic messages
- Good knowledge of the national healthcare system

- Fluency in Finnish and in English

What will you do?
This dynamic position focuses on providing scientific training, guidance, application support and troubleshooting to our customers. How will you get here?
To succeed in this role you should have the following experience and skills:
Education
- Degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or similar (Masters or PhD preferred)
Experience
- Several years of molecular biology laboratory experience
- Hands-on experience with NGS and/or CE
- Experience in communicating technical materials in written and verbal form
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Customer-facing experience, with the emotional intelligence to understand customer concerns
- Able to connect with and support people optimally with varying levels of technical knowledge and expertise
- Good computer and/or IT skills and have an interest for groundbreaking technology.
