Biobio Junior Section, supported by the 60-year anniversary of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS), has organised a panel discussion around these questions.
Suvi Haimi, Co-founder of Sulapac and Emma Raitoharju, Academy Research Fellow at Tampere University will talk about their careers in the first panel.
In the second panel, Irene Diaz-Moreno, Chair of the FEBS Career Young Scientists Committee and Professor at the University of Seville and Mario Brandenburg, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Education and Research, will provide their insights into how organizations such as FEBS can shape one’s career and how scientists can work together with politics to implement policies.
We are happy to tell that the Finnish society for Cell biology will arrange the SSB Life Science Business & Innovation Seminar, held for the very first time in Tampere! Join us on November 14th, 2024 at Tampere University (room F114) for an afternoon of learning about entrepreneurship in life sciences, networking, and great company.

”Tervehdys Turusta! Valmistuin solubiologiksi Jyväskylästä, ja väitökseni jälkeen siirryin tutkijaksi Turun yliopistoon. Tällä hetkellä toimin erikoistutkijana ja molekulaarisen syöpäbiologian dosenttina Bioteknologian laitoksella. Tutkimukseni keskittyy selvittämään kasvaimen immuunimikroympäristön merkitystä okasolusyövän leviämisessä. Toimin Suomen Solubiologit ry:n puheenjohtajana vuosina 2013-2020, ja tällä hetkellä olen hallituksen jäsen. Elina has honorably served as the chair of the society for a grand seven years, making her an invaluable knowledge resource for the current board. “Greetings from Turku! I graduated as a cell biologist from Jyväskylä, and after my dissertation, I moved to the University of Turku as a researcher. Currently, I work as a senior researcher and docent of molecular cancer biology at the Department of Biotechnology. My research focuses on understanding the role of the tumor immune microenvironment in the spread of squamous cell carcinoma. I served as the chair of the Finnish Society for Cell Biology from 2013 to 2020, and I am currently a board member. I am also the local correspondent for the Solubiologi journal in the Turku area, so feel free to contact me if you would like to publish your article in our journal!”

Mie oon tässä keväällä 2024 valmistuva nanotieteen sekä solu- ja molekyylibiologian opiskelija Jyväskylästä. Valmistumisen jälkeen hommat jatkuvat Jyväskylän yliopistolla erityisesti valkosolujen ja virtaussytometrian parissa!
Tutustuin Suomen solubiologeihin vasta viimeisen kahden opiskeluvuoteni aikana. Pari vuotta järjestöhommista taukoiltuani taisi järjestötoimintahammasta alkaa kolottamaan ja pääsin nyt keväällä SSB:n hallitukseen. I got acquainted with the Finnish Society for Cell Biology only during the last two years of my studies. After taking a break from organizational activities for a couple of years, I felt the urge to get back into it and joined the SSB board this spring. Hej! Jag är en cellbiolog från Åbo Akademi, som aldrig kommit längre bort från min kära hemstad Åbo. Efter att jag blivit klar mer mina doktrosstudier har jag fortsatt med att studera Met1-kopplad ubikvitinering och dess roll i bananflugans immunsignalering. Det mest roliga och givande med att jobba i SSB:s styrelse är att jag har en möjlighet att förkorta distansen mellan cellbiologer i Finland 😊 Jag är även medlemstidningens reklamredaktör, så ifall du har extra pengar på dig och vill lägga med en reklam i tidningen, så är det bara att slå en signal”
