About The Position
The tasks of the job include maintaining the lab equipment, lab ordering and supporting the lab colleagues in logistics and ideally experimental work. The lab is embedded in the ATG research program of the Medical School in the University of Helsinki located at the Biomedicum 1 (Meilahti Campus) and within a very diverse, dynamic and international environment.
Candidates trained in the Life Sciences program and with previous lab experience are very encouraged to apply.
The chosen applicant is expected to reside in Finland while employed by the University of Helsinki.
What We Offer
The salary is based on the job requirement scheme for specialist and support staff according to the salary system of the Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a personal salary component. In total, the starting gross salary of a laboratory technician is typically around 2800-2900 EUR per month. The starting date is negotiable, but we hope the appointee will be able to take up the position latest in May 2024.

Tehtävän kuvaus Orion on aloittanut kasvumatkan ja vahvistamme osaajajoukkoamme. Orionin kipututkimusyksikkö hakee in vivo tutkimusassistenttia vakituiseen työsuhteeseen Turkuun. Päätehtävänä on in vivo tutkimusten läpivienti ja osallistuminen yksikön teknillisten valmiuksien kehittämiseen ja uusien teknologioiden käyttöönottoon yhdessä ryhmän muiden jäsenten kanssa laadusta tinkimättä. Ensuring the health and welfare of animals in accordance with the local rules and regulations. Performing a wide range of pharmacological in vivo techniques complying with the local Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act and the associated Codes of Practice for the Housing and Care of the Animals used in Scientific Procedures. Performing in vivo studies to test novel drugs’ efficacy and mechanism of action mainly in rodent oncology disease models (e.g. xenografts, PDX, syngeneic models) according to the scientist’s guidance, study plans, and Standard Operating Procedure(s). Maintaining accurate records in accordance with the appropriate regulatory standards. Working in close collaboration with scientists, other in vivo technicians and animal caretakers on a daily basis while coordinating own daily work. A degree in biology, bioanalytics, biotechnology engineering, laboratory technician (for example University of Applied Sciences) or in a related discipline. Qualification for carrying out procedures on animals is required. Concrete hands-on in vivo research experience especially in rodents (preferred experience in oncology models). Technical competence that includes rodent handling, injections (IV, IP, SC, and PO), palpation, bleeding, tissue harvest, processing samples for downstream applications and ex vivo analysis methods. Ability to carry out routine tasks independently and procedures under instruction while organizing own daily work and supporting rest of the in vivo team. We expect you thrive in a collaborative environment and have excellent attention to details with strong communication skills in Finnish and/or English Flexibility and willingness to learn new techniques as a member of a research team. We are now looking for an experienced Senior Scientist – Analytics to join our R&D team
In this position, you will play an essential role in supporting and leading development projects within R&D and contribute towards our greater goal of providing animal-free egg protein ingredients to the world. We aim to play a significant role in building the sustainable food system with the help of our partners throughout the world. Towards this goal our team utilizes microbial production systems for expressing egg white proteins using filamentous fungi.
Your responsibilities as Senior Scientist:
Developing and implementing various analytical methods focusing on protein analytics.
Developing analytics pipelines for assessing strains, processing conditions, and product compositions.
Comprehensive and timely documentation of activities in electronic lab notebooks and relevant databases.
Generating standard operating procedures and training personnel.
Scouting for new technologies and methods to apply.
Who we are looking for:
MSc in chemistry, molecular biosciences, or similar field, PhD preferred.
At least 4 years’ experience of working with relevant analytical methods, such as HPLC, Mass Spectrometry, plate reader assays, and/or protein purification.
Strong background and interest in analytical methods for e.g. protein characterization.
Previous experience in setting up and assessing new methods and instruments.
Experience with electronic lab notebooks and/or LIMS.
Good written and spoken English skills.
Experience with laboratory automation and databases is considered as an advantage.

About SCellex:
SCellex is a Finnish start-up company that is developing a novel high-throughput spatial transcriptomics method for the rapidly expanding single-cell omics field. SCellex technology aids researchers in pharma, diagnostics, and academia in examining tissues and single cells in a high-throughput manner with high resolution. Our technology is based on patent-pending visual barcoding of single-cell-sized picowells in an array. SCellex arrays enable RNA capture directly from tissue sections and from single-cell suspensions, linking the well positions and image of the cells to their RNAseq and multi-omics sequence read-outs.
Job description:
You will develop and optimize various lab protocols for the ready-to-use picowell array chip for spatial transcriptomics. The workflow consists of several steps: microscopy, RNA release and capture from the tissue or cells, cDNA synthesis, PCR amplification, NGS library preparation as well as quality checks with data analysis and interpretation steps. You have experience in nucleic acid research methods and their applications. You have preferably worked with NGS technologies and have a good understanding of the principles of NGS libraries and data analyses. Experience in single cell or spatial analysis technologies is beneficial, as well as in tissue preparation and cell culture technologies. Experience from industry is also advantageous.
We are looking for:

Role and salary
The University of Eastern Finland is seeking highly motivated applicants for a postdoctoral position in epidemiological analyses of microbial exposures and respiratory health.
As our new Project Researcher, you will be working at the Institute of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition in a consortium project focusing on identifying early-life microbial exposures affecting asthma risk. The project aims at facilitating the development of asthma preventive interventions. The work builds on our previous findings and existing data from a globally unique compilation of prospectively followed birth cohorts from different countries. The position is located in Kuopio, Finland.
As our new Project Researcher, your main responsibilities will include:
producing scientific publications, which primarily involves statistical analyses
drafting manuscripts
The specific research topic and tasks may be adjusted to some extent depending on whether your expertise lies primarily in microbiome or health research.
The position will be filled for a 2-year term from 1 of August 2024 onwards (or as agreed). The position will be filled for a fixed term due to it pertaining to a specific project task. A probationary period is applied to all new members of the staff.
The salary of the position in determined in accordance with the salary system of the Finnish universities. The salary comprises two elements: a job requirement element and a personal performance element. In this position, the job requirement element is 3,213.55-3,714.44 euros/month, based on levels 5–6 of the job requirement chart for teaching and research staff. The personal performance element can be a minimum of 6 % and a maximum of 50 % of the above-mentioned sum. Depending on the job requirement element and the personal performance element the salary will be approximately 3,530– 4,460 euros/month at the beginning of the employment relationship.
