Työpaikkakuvaus

Turun yliopiston lääketieteellisen tiedekunnan biolääketieteen laitokseen kuuluva syöpätutkimusryhmä Medical Immune Oncology Research Group (MIORG, https://www.miorg.fi/) hakee innostunutta ja kokenutta tutkijatohtoria työskentelemään syövän immunoterapian kehittämiseen liittyvässä projektissa. Projektia johtaa Akatemiatutkija, dosentti Carlos Rogerio de Figueiredo. Tutkimusryhmän työkieli on pääasiassa englanti.

Käyttämällä käänteistä translaatiomallia tutkimusryhmässä hyödynnetään edistyneintä teknologiaa metastaattisen syöpänäytteiden profiloimisessa ja bioanalyysien tekemisessä sekä eläin- että humaanikudoksista keskittyen ensisijaisesti löytämään soveltuva biomarkkeri hoitojen kehittämisen järkeväksi suuntaamiseksi.

Tehtävään valittava tutkijatohtori johtaa tutkimusta, jossa keskitytään erityisesti innovatiivisten virtaussytometritekniikoiden käyttöön, mukaan lukien in vitro – ja in vivo -toimintatutkimuksiin pohjautuvat immunomekanistiset tutkimukset single-cell multi-color full spectral virtaussytometrillä. Tehtäviin kuuluu sytometrillä tehtävien kokeiden suunnittelu, toteuttaminen ja tarkkojen data-analyysien laatiminen. Tutkijatohtori tekee tutkimusta myös yhteistyössä ryhmän jatko-opiskelijoiden kanssa, ja häntä kannustetaan kehittämään muita alaan liittyviä tutkimushankkeita (mukaan lukien syövän immunogeeniset tutkimukset).

Tehtävä on kaksivuotinen ja alkaa tammikuussa 2024. On mahdollista, että tehtävä jatkuu tämän jälkeen (yhteensä 4 vuotta). Valitun henkilön toivotaan aloittavan tammikuussa, mutta aloituksesta voidaan neuvotella.

Edellytykset

  • Tohtorin tutkinto soveltuvalta tieteenalalta (solubiologia, molekyylibiologia, biokemia, tai vastaava)
  • Voimassa oleva eläintyölupa Suomessa tai Iso-Britanniassa/EU-alueella, pätevyys kudosviljelytekniikoissa sekä yksisoluvärjäyksissä, erityisesti virtaussytometriä varten
  • Syvällinen asiantuntemus virtaussytometriaan ja single-cell -kudosten käsittelyyn liittyen, perehtyneisyys FlowJO:n kaltaisiin työkaluihin sekä bioinformatiikan ja tilastotieteen perustyökaluihin
  • Kokemus humaani-/eläinnäytteiden käsittelystä ja terapeuttisesta/lääketutkimuksesta
  • Taidot reagenssien ja mekanististen tutkimusten toiminnallisten kontrollien suunnitteluun ja valmistukseen sekä vahva ote menetelmien ja varaston hallintaan.
  • Sujuva suullinen ja kirjallinen englannin kielen taito sekä vankka organisointikyky.

Eduksi katsotaan

  • Kudosten immunofluoresenssi- ja mikroskooppitekniikoiden tuntemus.
  • Immunohistokemian tekniikoiden osaaminen.
  • Kokemus/hankittu koulutus CyTOF-näytteiden valmistelusta ja tietojen analysoinnista.
  • Kokemus NanoStringin (nCounter, Geo MX tai CosMX) käytöstä.
  • Aikaisempi kokemus R/Python-ohjelmoinnista.

Tehtäväkohtainen palkkaus määräytyy yliopistojen palkkausjärjestelmän mukaisesti ja on opetus- ja tutkimushenkilöstön vaativuustasoilla 5-6. Palkkaus on aiemmasta kokemuksesta ja osaamisesta riippuen tyypillisesti noin 3686-4041 e/kk työsuhteen alkaessa. Tehtävässä on 6 kuukauden koeaika.

yhtä määräaikaista tutkijatohtoria biolääketieteellisille rajapinnoille apulaisprofessori Emilia Peltolan johtamaan Terveysteknologian materiaalit -ryhmään.

Tehtävän aloitusaika on mahdollisimman pian, ja tutkijatohtorin työsuhde jatkuu 31.8.2026 saakka.

Jos olet kiinnostunut tutkimaan biolääketieteellisiä rajapintoja, kuulut tiimimme! Tässä tehtävässä sinulla on ainutlaatuinen mahdollisuus hyödyntää materiaalikemian ja -fysiikan ja rajapintailmiöiden ymmärrystä terveysteknologian antureiden kehittämiseksi. Anturiteknologia on tärkeä tekijä edistämään terveydenhuollon fokuksen siirtymistä sairaudenhoidosta ennaltaehkäisevään terveydenhoitoon. Tutkimusryhmämme keskittyy hermovälittäjäaineita, hormoneita ja malariaa mittaavien nanomateriaaleihin perustuvien sähkökemiallisten antureiden kehittämiseen. Pyrimme kontrolloimaan sähkökemiallista vastetta, anturin likaantumista ja elimistön vastetta suoraa elektrodin materiaalilla. Etsimme henkilöä, joka on aloitteellinen ja jolla on kokemusta apta-antureista ja/tai sähkökemiasta.


Vaatimukset

Tehtävässä edellytetään hyvät tiedot aptameereista ja/tai sähkökemiasta. Etsimme tutkijaa, joka parhaiten sopii meneillään oleviin projekteihin: Biohybridihiilimateriaalit naissukupuolelle tyypillisten hormonien mittauksessa. Tehtävässä menestyminen edellyttää sujuvaa suullista ja kirjallista englannin kielen taitoa.

Tutkijatohtorilla on oltava tohtorin tutkinto soveltuvalta alalta (esim. materiaalitekniikka, kemia, fysiikka, bioteknologia). Tohtorintutkinto tulee olla suoritettuna hakuajan päättymiseen mennessä.

POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER

position, starting at 1.1.2024 in University of Oulu, Finland. Successful applicants will belong to the strategic Biocenter Oulu spearhead project headed by the professors Lauri Eklund and Vesa Kiviniemi providing highly complementary expertise in endothelial cell and molecular biology, advanced microscopic imaging, disease modeling, clinical neuroimaging, and brain clearance therapy research.

SUBJECT FIELD: Brain is metabolically highly active organ and requires an efficient system to remove the resulting waste, while failures in the clearance can cause Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The mechanisms which regulate waste clearance are incompletely understood.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Work will be carried out in the research group headed by Professor Lauri Eklund (at the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, Biocenter Oulu, University of Oulu) focusing on vascular biology and metabolic waste clearance mechanisms in the central nervous system. In this project we investigate roles of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in the brain clearance and pre-clinically test potential treatments to enhance brain clearance functionality. Research technologies mainly used are biochemical and cell biological methods, advanced microscopy, and genetic mouse models.

REQUIREMENTS: To successfully occupy the position, the candidate must possess a doctoral degree in the field of medical biochemistry, molecular/cell biology, or medicine and have expertise in the ECM and vascular biology. Prior experience in generation and analysis of gene-modified mice (knockout/knockin and cell-type specific inducible models); in biochemical, histological and advanced microscopic imaging methods; and knowledge in transcriptomic analysis are required. The ability to pursue independent research, supervise younger scientists, teaching experience and fluency in written and spoken English are expected. Priority is given to the applicant who can start on January 1st, 2024.

Job Description

We are seeking a talented and motivated postdoctoral researcher to independently work with human induced pluripotent stem cells and their differentiation towards corneal endothelial cells. The candidate will be responsible for improving and optimizing a previously developed differentiation process to ensure research translation towards clinical and commercial use. The primary emphasis will be on developmental biology, advanced cultivation of human pluripotent stem cells, and their guided differentiation through the manipulation of signaling pathways. The research necessitates a profound understanding and passion for molecular signaling regulation within cells and employing a diverse array of molecular techniques, which encompasses advanced flow cytometry and imaging methodologies. In addition, there will be a need for data analysis, the creation of publications and reports. Importantly, the job includes active working and communication in the interface of academic research and industrial R&D and collaboration with academic and industrial R&D colleagues and support staff, both internally and within external networks.

Requirements

  • An applicable doctoral degree in the field of medicine, cell biology or molecular biology.
  • Versatile and independent researcher expertise in cell biology.
  • A solid background in cell and molecular biology as well as culturing of human cells.
  • Candidates with additional research experience with human pluripotent stem cells will be highly valued.
  • Technical skills in flow cytometry, qPCR and immunofluorescence.
  • While experience within the international eye research community is valued, it is not a mandatory requirement.

Postdoctoral Researcher

The position is available in an Academy of Finland -funded project that investigates the interplay of metabolic reprogramming, epigenetic regulatory landscape, and cancer cell proliferation.

The group is working in the field of cancer biology and epigenetics using state-of-the-art methods such as CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing and transcriptional and epigenomic profiling at single-cell resolution (see e.g., Pihlajamaa et al, Nat Biotech 2023). We utilize diverse cellular models and next-generation sequencing techniques to understand the molecular mechanisms controlling oncogenic gene expression programs and cancer growth. The group belongs to the Applied Tumor Genomics Program in the Research Programs Unit of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki providing a vibrant research environment and high-quality infrastructure for modern biomedical research.

Qualifications

  • A PhD degree in life sciences with excellent academic record. The default assumption is that the degree requirement must be met by the beginning of the employment.
  • Working knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology, and mammalian cell culture
  • Ability to work productively both independently and as part of the team

  • The chosen applicant is expected to reside in Finland while employed by the University of Helsinki.
