Dosentti Pieta Mattilan tutkimusryhmään haetaan tutkijatohtoria/erikoistutkijaa projektiin, jossa selvitetään virusantigeenien prosessointia ja esittelyä B-soluissa, tavoitteena ymmärtää paremmin tämän prosessin roolia ja siihen vaikuttavia tekijöitä rokotevasteessa. Valitun hakijan toivotaan aloittavan 1.3.2024 (tai sopimuksen mukaan). Tehtävä täytetään kaksivuotisena, mutta on mahdollista, että tehtävä jatkuu.
Ryhmämme tutkii B lymfosyyttien aktivaatiota, mikä mahdollistaa suojaavien korkean affiniteetin omaavien vasta-aineiden muodostumisen. Käytämme paljon moderneja mikroskopian ja proteomiikan työkaluja yhdistettynä soluaktivaatiokokeisiin sekä hiirimalleihin, joiden avulla pyrimme paremmin ymmärtämään B-solujen aktivaation säätelyä. Läpimenevänä tavoitteenamme on löytää uusia kohteita lääkekehittelyyn B-solulähtöisiin lymfoomiin tai immuunijärjestelmän häiriöihin, kuten immuunipuutoksiin tai autoimmuunisairauksiin, ja toisaalta löytää työkaluja tehokkaampien rokotteiden kehittelyyn.
Palkattava henkilö tulee työskentelemään osana EU-rahoitettua (Horizon Europe) projektia Yellow4FLAVI ( Deconstructing the protective immunity of yellow fever virus 17D to inform flavivirus vaccine design ). Yellow4FLAVI konsortio käsittää 13 partneria 7 eri maasta. Konsortiota koordinoi Prof. Giovanna Barba-Spaeth Institute Pasteurista, (Pariisi, Ranska). Meidän osuutemme on tutkia keltakuumeviruksen antigeenin prosessointia ja esittelyä B-soluissa. Työ sisältää erilaisten mikroskopiatekniikoiden käyttöä ja kehittelyä sekä soluaktivaatiokokeiden pystyttämistä kyseistä tarkoitusta varten tiiviissä yhteistyössä Ranskassa ja Saksassa sijaitsevien kollaboraattoreidemme kanssa. Yellow4FLAVI projektin taustaa hieman: Aiemmin suurimmaksi osaksi tropiikkiin liitetyt flavivirukset, kuten Zika, dengue, Länsi-Niilinvirus ja keltakuume ovat laajenemassa globaaliksi terveysuhaksi. Ilmastonmuutos ja kaupungistuminen ovat edesauttaneet viruksia levittävien hyttysten alueiden laajenemista ja Euroopassa onkin viime vuosina havaittu useita paikallisesti leviäviä epidemioita. Keltakuumevirus 17D (YF17D) on heikennetty viruskanta, jolla saavutetaan rokotevaste, joka on ylitse muiden tehokkuudessa ja turvallisuudessa. Rokotteen menestyksestä huolimatta emme ymmärrä, mikä tekee siitä niin erinomaisen. Yellow4FLAVI konsortio pyrkii ymmärtämään näitä mekanismeja, yhdistäen viruksen rakenteen saavutettuun immuunivasteeseen, tavoitteena oppia kehittämään parempia rokotteita myös muita flaviviruksia vastaan.

Role and salary
As our new Postdoctoral Researcher/Project Researcher, you will be working in the School of Pharmacy at the Faculty of Health Sciences within the EU-funded NEMESIS consortium that aims to develop “novel effect biomarkers for metabolic disruptors: evidence on health impacts to answer science and policy needs”. The position is located in Kuopio, Finland.
You will develop, prevalidate and use nuclear receptor (NR)-based reporter assays to measure the detailed dose-response activation of key NRs by metabolism-disrupting compounds (MDCs), relevant microbiome-derived compounds and their mixtures with human, mouse and zebrafish reporter gene assays. The effects of MDC biotransformation will be studied in stable cell lines expressing cytochrome P450 enzymes. Effects of MDCs and their mixtures on hepatic NR target gene expression will be analysed in select cases by RNA sequencing.

The position is filled for a fixed term until 31 December 2026, with a preferable start date in February 2024 or as agreed. The position will be filled for a fixed term due to it pertaining to a specific project. A probationary period is applied to all new members of the staff.
The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of the Finnish universities. The salary comprises two components: a job requirement component and a personal performance component. In this position, the job requirement component is 3150,54 euros/month, based on level 5 of the job requirement chart for teaching and research staff. The personal performance component can be a minimum of 6 % and a maximum of 50 % of the above-mentioned sum. Depending on the personal performance component, the salary will be approximately 3 460 – 3 850 €/month at the beginning of the employment.

The Biochemistry group and the Microbial physiology group develop methanogenic archaea as cell factories for CO2 valorisation within a collaborative project funded by the Erkko Foundation. To complement the team that consists of three doctoral researchers that are jointly supervised by Profs Jouhten and Scheller, we are looking for a doctoral researcher in computational biology.
Scientific environment
The Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems (BIO2), one of three departments in the School of Chemical Engineering at Aalto University, has an internationally leading reputation in basic and applied research for the development of advanced materials from natural resources. It is one of Europe’s leading research and higher education institutions in the field of sustainable chemistry and engineering based on the utilization of renewable resources.
BIO2 aims to contribute to the development of novel solutions to move towards sustainable primary production and processing systems that can produce materials with fewer inputs, less environmental impact, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Within bioscience, the department has research in bioprocess technology, molecular biotechnology, enzyme technology, metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, biomolecular, and biohybrid materials. Other strengths of the department include sustainable materials and products based on lignocellulose, ranging from nanomaterials to novel cellulose-based textiles.
Research Description
The key aims of the overall project are: 1) Elucidating the best-suited microbe for CO2-valorization. 2) Engineering the cellular regulation to redirect carbon flux from CO2 to desired products. 3) Demonstrating multi-carbon compound production via methanogens.
These aims are targeted by a collaborative effort of three PhD students with diverse backgrounds, combining bioinformatics, microbiology and metabolic engineering.

We are seeking a highly motivated computational biologist to join the research group of Dr Teemu Niiranen (Department of Clinical Medicine) as a Postdoctoral Researcher. We work on a wide range of topics with a current focus on multi-omics analysis in large-scale population cohorts. The research mainly comprises applied research on the associations between the gut microbiome and cardiometabolic disease in large population cohorts.
The duties of Postdoctoral Researcher include the analysis of population-level omics data (metagenomics, genomics, metabolomics etc.) aiming at groundbreaking biological discoveries. The key data sources include comprehensively phenotyped international human cohorts of up to tens of thousands of participants whose fecal samples have been analyzed in leading laboratories using state-of-the-art mass high-throughput (metagenomic) sequencing. Different project areas related to multi-omics data integration, analysis of longitudinal cohort data, and the discovery of personalized disease biomarkers are available.

Janssen is looking for a Field Brand Manager – Solid Tumors to join their dedicated team in Finland. The position is field based in Middle and Northen Finland

Objectives of the Position
As a Field Brand Manager, you will be responsible for the sales and marketing of our oncology product portfolio within the designated territory. Your main goal will be to execute the brand plan and meet sales targets while ensuring alignment with our brand strategy and the needs of our customers.
Drive sales and business results in the designated territory by flawlessly executing the brand plan and building strong partnerships in the oncology customer groups.
Act as the product specialist at the customer interface and engage in constant dialogue to create value for patients, customers, and Janssen.
Analyze territory and account sales data, as well as customer insights, to develop account plans in alignment with the country business strategy and brand plan.
Plan sales activities and implement promotional campaigns using available sales data and CRM tools.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to optimize interactions and maximize business value.
Stay up-to-date with the competitive landscape, market trends, and customer needs in the oncology field.
Qualifications:
Academic degree in natural sciences, business administration, or a related field.
High proficiency in spoken and written Finnish and English required.
Strong background in marketing and sales, preferably with 2-5 years of experience in similar roles.
Experience in leading cross-functional teams
Knowledge of the healthcare, oncology or pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CRM tools having a digital mindset required.
Valid driver’s license.

Doctoral and postdoctoral researcher in cancer biology
The laboratory of Dr. Johanna Englund at Cell tissue dynamics research program at the Institute of Biotechnology, HiLIFE, University of Helsinki, is looking for 1) a doctoral researcher and 2) a postdoctoral researcher in the field of cancer biology.
Englund lab (www.englundlab.com) investigates how the composition and dynamics of extracellular matrix and basement membrane (BM) are regulated during mammary tissue development and tumorigenesis. We are especially interested in understanding the role of BM in breast cancer initiation. We use human and mouse model systems, including patient-derived organoid cultures, imaging and proteomics for these studies. The doctoral and postdoctoral projects will focus on understanding the dynamics of BM in normal and malignant epithelial growth and determining the functional role of BM during breast cancer initiation.
We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and creative individuals with good teamwork skills to join our team. The candidate should hold (1) a Masters degree or comparable or (2) a PhD degree in cell biology, cancer biology, genetics or related field. Experience in imaging, image analysis, animal work and histology are considered highly beneficial. Good written and verbal communication skills in English are necessary.

Role and salary
We are seeking a highly motivated Doctoral Researcher with good basic laboratory skills. The person to be appointed to this position will work either at the A.I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences or the Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences. (PI: Katja Kanninen, co-PI Pasi Jalava). The position is located in Kuopio, Finland. The project focuses on understanding how particulate air pollution affects respiratory and cardiovascular cells, and how ageing impacts on the responses.
The work planned for these Doctoral Researcher positions is experimental and uses human cell culture models. We offer the Doctoral Researchers the opportunity to work on their doctoral dissertation, and the positions allow the Doctoral Researchers to take part in scientific writing, grant applications, scientific collaborations, and supervising Bachelor´s and Master’s degree students.
The positions will be filled for a 2-year term from 15 December 2023 onwards (or as agreed). The positions will be filled for a fixed term due to the duration of this specific project. A probationary period is applied to all new members of the staff. The Doctoral Researchers must be qualified to pursue postgraduate studies at the University of Eastern Finland by having enrolled in a doctoral programme.
As our new Doctoral Researcher, your main responsibilities will include:
• conducting research in accordance with your research proposal, • participating in the preparation of research projects in your field, • reporting and creating high-quality scientific publications, • planning and conducting studies, and • taking part in courses, seminars and conferences.
The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities. The salary comprises two components: a job-related salary element and a personal salary element. In this position, the job- related salary element is € 2182,19 /month, based on level 2 (levels 2–4) of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff. The personal salary element can be a minimum of 6 % and a maximum of 50 % of the above-mentioned sum. At the beginning of the employment, the salary of the Doctoral Researcher will be approximately € 2444–2662/month, depending on the job-related salary element and the personal salary element.
