Tutkimusryhmässämme on avoinna paikka projektissa jossa keskitytään tutkimaan kasviperäisten elintarvikkeiden terveysvaikutusten taustalla olevia molekulaarisia mekanismeja. Tehtävä sijoittuu elintarvikekemian ja – kehityksen yksikköön Bioteknologian laitoksella ja tutkimusryhmäämme johtaa professori Kati Hanhineva ja teemme tiivistä yhteistyötä myös apulaisprofessori Leo Lahden kanssa Tietotekniikan laitokselta.
Tehtävä on mahdollista sovittaa eri tutkimustasoille, olennaisin edellytys on vahva mielenkiinto data-analyysien kehittämiseen liittyen omiikka-analyyseihin. Projektissa hyödynnetään erityisesti nestekromatografia-massaspektrometri – metabolomiikasta sekä mikrobiston metagenomiikka-analyysistä saatavaa dataa, joka on peräisin esim. ravitsemusinterventiotutkimuksista ja eläinkokeista, tavoitteena tutkia kasviperäisten ruokien vaikutusta metaboliittitasolla. Toimenkuva voidaan muokata joustavasti sopimaan joko väitöskirjatyöntekijälle, projektitutkijalle tai tutkijatohtorille, riippuen hakijan uravaiheesta ja osaamisesta.

Palkka määräytyy yliopistojen työehtosopimuksen perusteella. Tehtävä kuuluu opetus- ja tutkimushenkilökuntaan ja keskimääräinen palkka tohtorikoulutettavalle/projektitutkijalle on noin 2200 – 2400 eur/kk ja tutkijatohtorille noin 3200 – 3400 eur/kk.

Essential for the role Our team is a highly collaborative group of scientists, working in a constantly evolving technical and scientific landscape. Therefore, you’ll have to be comfortable working at a fast pace, with a team-focused approach. You have excellent communication skills and a proactive, delivery-focused approach.
We believe you have a passion for driving scientific questions. The ability to receive and analyse input from multiple sources and based on this formulate a focused course of action. You have a consistent track record of delivering analytical solutions for business or academic needs. You can work independently and have a positive, result-oriented and problem-solving attitude.
PhD – or equivalent numbers of years of experience post-degree – in bioinformatics, biological sciences, engineering, computational sciences or a related field
General understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, and human physiology
General knowledge of sequence-based bioinformatics
Competency in a coding language such as R or python
Desirable for the role
Comfortable working with high performance computing and cloud environments
Good background in establishing data/information pipelines and applying best practice
Familiarity with design of experiments
Hands-on practice in omics analysis for example RNAseq
Experience in delivering value in a dynamic, iteratively working team and via collaboration with other teams
Experience in working with data sources relevant to drug development or biomedicine
Experience with developing shiny apps or equivalent applications
