Pro gradu- työntekijä Meilahden patologian laboratorioon ajalle 1.5-31.8.2022

HUS Diagnostiikkakeskuksen patologian osasto hakee opintojen loppuvaiheessa olevaa solubiologian opiskelijaa pro gradu- projektiin (kesto 4kk, touko-elokuu 2022).

Pro gradu- projektin tavoitteena on digitalisoida diagnostiseen patologiaan verifioitujen vasta-aineiden arkisto, joka sisältää kuvauksen kunkin diagnostisen vasta- aineen käyttöindikaatiosta, näytemateriaalista ja käytettävästä menetelmästä. Projektin aikana opiskelija tutustuu immunohistokemian laboratorion työmenetelmiin, laadunhallintaan ja digipatologiaan.

HUS Diagnostiikkakeskuksessa on toimintaa kahdeksalla lääketieteen erikoisalalla, joista patologia on yksi. Vastaamme valtakunnallisesti useista erityisosaamista vaativista tutkimuksista sekä yliopistolliselle sairaalalle kuuluvasta tutkimuksesta ja opetuksesta. Toimimme Uudenmaan, Kymenlaakson ja Etelä-Karjalan perusterveydenhuollossa ja erikoissairaanhoidossa.

Olemme tärkeä osa potilaan hoitoketjua ja patologian laboratorion tutkimukset ovat keskeisessä roolissa sairauksien varmistamisessa, poissulkemisessa, osana hoitoa sekä hoidon seurannassa ja seulonnassa. Kehitämme diagnostista toimintaamme jatkuvasti, jotta voimme palvella mahdollisimman hyvin ja laadukkaasti potilaita ja heitä hoitavia kliinikoita.

Finnish Genome Editing Center invites applications for the position of

LABORATORY COORDINATOR

The position is immediately available and involves setting up research service actions in Finnish Genome Editing Center (FinGEEC, part of GoEditStem HiLIFE infrastructure platform and Biocenter Finland) and participation in high impact breast cancer research projects led by Dr. Topi Tervonen and Professor Juha Klefström.

In FinGEEC, your task is day-to-day operation of the core facility including service provision. The work will mainly focus on the generation of genome edited cell lines and performing genome editing analysis. Running the core facility includes communication with the customers (customer support), marketing the services and building web pages, as well as managing laboratory and finances. You will be working as a team with FinGEEC principal investigator, adjuct professor Topi Tervonen. You are also supporting tasks related to development of the HiLIFE GoEditStem infrastructure platform.

FinGEEC is integrated with and supported by professor Juha Klefström’s lab. We offer you a possibility to develop your skills in state-of-the-art functional genomics technologies in a teamwork-spirited environment of about 20 researchers, service project coordinators and research assistants. You will be involved in Klefström-lab team participating in science and common lab activities.

A successful candidate has preferably a master’s degree in molecular biology, biotechnology or equivalent. Experience in cell culture techniques and basic molecular biology is mandatory. Ideally, the candidate has also experience in BSL2 work. Excellent English communication skills are required, and good Finnish language skills are considered as an advantage. Successful implementation of your tasks will require technical prowess, good time management, and communication skills, customer service attitude and capability for teamwork with researchers coming from different backgrounds.

Laboratory Coordinator’s salary will be based on level 8 of the demands level chart for specialist and support staff in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance with the overall starting salary amounting to approximately 2800-3000 € per month, depending on the qualifications and previous relevant experience of the candidate.

The deadline for the application is March 31st 2022 but the position is filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found. Six-month-trial period will be applied; however, the project has funding until end of 2024.

Research Description

The goal is to functionally express and test key enzymes for the conversion of CO2 to fuels. The postdoc position is focussed on metalorganic enzymes involved in the transfer of alkyl-groups, which require oxygen-sensitive cofactors harbouring reduced metal centres, such as Co or Ni. The actual research is on a fundamental level, but the long-term goal is designing new routes to generate renewable fuels from CO2.

This post-doctoral position (scholarship) will be placed at the Department of Oncology-Pathology at KI. At our department, basic, translational and clinical research and educational activities related to cancer are carried out. Approximately 300 people from over 40 nations are currently working at the department. About 30 research groups with various cancer research profiles are involved and we have around 110 PhD students. The Department of Oncology-Pathology is responsible for undergraduate courses in Pathology, Oncology and Forensic Medicine for medical students, as well as for Tumor biology courses for biomedicine students and Pathology courses for opticians. The team led by the main supervisor Hanna Eriksson (MD, PhD) is focusing on clinical and translational melanoma research. The candidate will have immediate access to a collaborative network of translational researchers and clinicians working in the field.

Duties

We are looking for a postdoc who is curious and eager to solve biological questions with focus on translational melanoma research. Specifically, we are interested in understanding how the inflammatory response in the tumor microenvironment affects tumor progression and response to melanoma therapies.

The current position offers outstanding opportunities to develop as a researcher in an innovative and stimulating research environment by combining, together with a dedicated group of scientists and clinicians where the postdoc will contribute with her/his expertise.

To fulfil these aims, the postdoc will work on clinical specimens from melanoma patients as well as with cell lines and mouse models. The research project is therefore performed in close collaboration between the clinic and KI. The focus will be on applying gene expression models on biologically/clinically oriented research questions and to analyze the acquired data as well as to validate the findings using public domain data. This includes cell- and molecular wet-lab experimental methods as well as investigating new strategies and solutions for the developing these methods.

Entry Requirements

Do you have a strong affinity for translational medicine and a strong background in molecular biology and genomic techniques? Do you enjoy fast-paced collaborative science and working with people from different cultures and backgrounds? Are you genuinely interested in contributing to helping patients by conducting rigorous experiments and data analyses? Are you meticulous, attentive to detail and self-critical? Then you are the right person!

Prior experience with various NGS techniques (e.g., RNA-seq, whole-exome sequencing, targeted sequencing) and familiarity with the bioinformatics tools required to analyze their data, as demonstrated by leading authorship(s) on papers published in authoritative, peer-reviewed journals is a pre-requisite. Prior work in the field of cancer genomics is desirable but not indispensable.

The successful candidate must hold a master’s degree in medicine, biomedicine, biotechnology or equivalent and a PhD in the field of genomic technologies (incl. single-cell genomics) and/or cancer genomics.

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Qualifications

  • PhD in biology, medicine, biomedicine, or another relevant field.
  • Documented experience in of cell- and molecular wet-lab experimental methods including gene expression analysis.
  • Knowledge of systems biology/systems medicine, large-scale data analysis, integration and visualization.
  • Knowledge in statistical methods.
  • Ability to interpret data in a biological context.
  • Excellent communication and team work skills
  • Fluent in English language.

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

What You’ll Do

  • Be responsible for supporting key customers within your territory as they move from clinical studies to building the infrastructure to produce cell therapies on a commercial scale
  • Have deep understanding of the requirements of a cell therapy manufacturing facility, enabling you to build strong relationships with key customers through solution-based selling
  • Be able to differentiate Cytiva’s solutions & offerings, convey compelling value propositions, and respond to customers’ technical/process questions in order to successfully close increasingly complex opportunities
  • Maximize sales orders and market share of cell therapy business solutions in assigned area
  • Be able to develop strong relationships with range levels of stakeholders involved in buying decisions
  • Responsible for building funnel of future business through early design in of products into manufacturing of new therapies in clinical trials
  • Work with regional Account Managers and modality specialists to identify customers in clinical development in cell processing, viral vector and gene therapy
  • Work with regional Account Manager and modality specialists at strategic customers to develop and execute on account plans with a view to delivering outcomes to our customers
  • Organize sites visits and deliver product demonstrations
  • Track market effectively and provide accurate current and forecasts data using information tools available
  • When required, prepare and co-ordinate the tender response and validate the tender documentation in collaboration with account manager
  • Communicate market information effectively to/from the field including competitor data
  • Ensures knowledge of and compliance with Company policies and quality processes
  • Sustain & develop Cord Blood & Point Of Care markets

Who You Are

  • Postgraduate level qualifications in cell biology or related subject
  • Minimum 3 years sales experience and/or within the cell therapy or bioprocess industry
  • English fluent & other Scandinavian languages welcome
  • Able to build a rapport with laboratory staff and senior managers
  • Able to demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking
  • Team working skills, incl. ability to harness resources to achieve goal
  • Demonstrates a high standard of written/verbal communication
  • Experience of working in a cell therapy lab/GMP facility
  • Experience with SFDC

As the majority of our customer base is in Sweden, this will be the ideal location of this position. The position is field-based.

Matemaattis-luonnontieteellisessä tiedekunnassa Biologian laitoksella on haettavana genetiikan yliopisto-opettajan määräaikainen tehtävä 1.8.2022 – 31.12.2022. Kyseessä on vanhempainvapaan sijaisuus.

Tehtävä sijoittuu Biologian laitokseen, jonka tutkimus ja opetus kattavat kaikki biologiset organisaatiotasot molekyyleistä ekosysteemeihin. Laitos muodostaa monialaisen, dynaamisen ja kansainvälisen tieteellisen ympäristön, ja on edustamillaan tieteenaloilla erittäin tuottoisa ja kansainvälisesti vaikuttava. Opetuksen tuloksekkuus näkyy runsaina maisteri- ja tohtorintutkintoina. Täytettävä tehtävä kuuluu fysiologian ja genetiikan tutkimus- ja opetusalaan.

Yliopisto-opettajan tehtävään otettavalta edellytetään tehtävään soveltuvaa ylempää korkeakoulututkintoa ja hyvää opetustaitoa. Hakijan ansioita arvioitaessa otetaan huomioon laaja tehtäväalueen osaaminen, opetuskokemus, pedagoginen koulutus, taito tuottaa oppimateriaalia ja antaa opetusta monipuolisesti sekä opetusnäyte. Tehtävän muista kelpoisuusvaatimuksista on säädetty Turun yliopiston johtosäännössä.

Tehtävään kuuluu biologian perus-, aine- ja syventävien opintojen opetus, etenkin eläinfysiologian ja genetiikan laboratoriokurssit ja -harjoitukset, sekä opetuksen kehittämiseen osallistuminen. Tehtävään otettavalla tulee olla kokemusta molekyyligeneettisistä sekä solu- ja molekyylibiologisista menetelmistä ja valmius soluviljelyn käyttöön opetuksessa. Kokemus mikroskopiasta ja koe-eläinten kanssa työskentelystä lasketaan myös ansioiksi. Yliopisto-opettaja osallistuu perustutkinto-opiskelijoiden opinnäytetöiden ohjaamiseen ja tarkastamiseen. Tehtävässä korostuu monipuolinen menetelmien hallinta ja opetuskokemus, joita myös painotamme ansioina.

Yliopisto-opettajan tehtäväkohtainen palkkaus määräytyy yliopistojen palkkausjärjestelmän opetus- ja tutkimushenkilöstön vaativuustasokartan tasojen 4-6 mukaisesti, jolloin tehtäväkohtainen palkanosa on 2591,28 – 3498,98 euroa kuukaudessa. Tehtäväkohtaisen palkanosan lisäksi maksetaan henkilökohtaiseen suoriutumiseen perustuvaa palkanosaa, joka on 6 % – 50 % tehtäväkohtaisesta palkasta.

Tehtävässä on kahden kuukauden koeaika.

Mahdolliset julkiset opetusnäytteet järjestetään huhtikuussa 2022.
