Bioanalyytikko
Itä-Suomen yliopisto on yksi Suomen suurimmista monialaisista tiedeyliopistoista. Tarjoamme opetusta lähes sadassa pääaineessa. Opiskelijoita on noin 15 500 ja työllistämme 2 500 henkilöä. Toimimme 1.8.2018 alkaen kahdella kampuksella Joensuussa ja Kuopiossa.Kansainvälisissä yliopistojen vertailuissa sijoitumme maailman parhaiden joukkoon.

Terveystieteiden tiedekunta toimii Itä-Suomen yliopiston Kuopion kampuksella. Tiedekunnassa koulutetaan lääkäreitä, hammaslääkäreitä, ravitsemusterapeutteja, farmaseutteja ja proviisoreja sekä muita keskeisiä asiantuntijoita terveydenhuollon eri aloille.  Tiedekunta on hyvin tutkimusintensiivinen. Kansainvälisesti korkeatasoinen ja monitieteinen tutkimus kytkeytyy vahvasti yliopiston strategiassa tunnistettuihin tutkimusalueisiin. Haettavana on

bioanalyytikon tehtävä (biolääketiede), lääketieteen laitos, biolääketieteen yksikkö, Kuopion kampus (vakanssi no 31129)

Työtehtäviisi kuuluvat erityyppisten solu- ja molekyylibiologisten analyysien suorittaminen, kuten qPCR-analyysit, Western blot- ja ELISA-määritykset ja immunohistokemialliset värjäykset sekä tutkimustulosten itsenäinen käsittely (mm. Excel-taulukkolaskenta). Teet myös soluviljelyä, erilaisia solukokeita ja huolehdit soluviljelylaboratorion organisoinnista. Lisäksi huolehdit tutkimuslaboratorioiden ylläpidosta sekä tarvittavien liuosten valmistuksesta.

Sinulla on vähintään ammattikorkeakoulututkinto soveltuvalta alalta. Toivomme, että olet oma-aloitteinen, organisointi- ja yhteistyökykyinen sekä kykenet itsenäiseen työhön. Toivomme, että sinulla on aiempaa kokemusta työskentelystä tutkimusryhmässä ja/tai biolääketieteellisessä tutkimuslaboratoriossa. Hyvä suullinen ja kirjallinen englanninkielen taito on välttämätön edellytys työskennellessäsi kansainvälisessä työyhteisössämme.

Tehtävä täytetään toistaiseksi 01.06.2018 alkaen (tai sopimuksen mukaan).

Tehtävän palkkaus määräytyy yliopistojen muun henkilöstön palkkausjärjestelmän vaativuustasolle 6-7 (2 063,59 – 2 224,75 €/kk). Tehtäväkohtaisen palkanosan lisäksi maksetaan henkilökohtaiseen suoriutumiseen perustuvaa palkanosaa, joka on enintään 46,3 % tehtäväkohtaisesta palkanosasta.

Uuden työntekijän tullessa yliopiston palvelukseen käytetään koeaikaa.

Open position for a Senior Researcher/ Team leader in computational epigenomics, Turku, Finland

We are looking for a team leader or senior researcher in computational epigenomics to join our multidisciplinary and international team of experts in the Computational Biomedicine group at Turku Bioinformatics Unit, Turku Centre for Biotechnology, University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University. The position is for two years, starting from 1.5.2018. Starting date is negotiable and continuation of the project is possible. 

Turku Centre for Biotechnology (www.btk.fi) is a joint department of University of Turku (www.utu.fi) and Åbo Akademi University, providing high-end technologies and expertise to academic and industrial researchers and a stimulating multidisciplinary and international research environment. Turku Bioinformatics Unit and the Computational Biomedicine Group of Dr. Laura Elo (www.btk.fi/research/research-groups/elo) develops computational data analysis tools and mathematical models for biomedical research, with the eventual goal of improving the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of complex diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. A specific focus is on analysing and interpreting data generated by modern high-throughput biotechnologies, such as deep sequencing and mass-spectrometry proteomics.

The work involves processing and analysing high-throughput next-generation sequencing data to answer complex biomedical questions. The specific focus area is epigenomics in close collaboration with the Finnish Functional Genomics Centre. The projects involve development and application of computational and statistical methods for the analysis of high-dimensional molecular and clinical datasets with focus on complex diseases. In addition to method development, the work covers implementation and benchmarking of existing tools and workflows. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team with backgrounds in mathematics, statistics, computer science, bioinformatics, biology and medicine, ensuring that there are competent additional personnel to assist in the projects as needed. He/She will also be tightly connected with the national and international collaborators, including a close connection to clinical and experimental teams. The team leader/senior researcher has the opportunity to target the research according to his/her own research interests within the projects running at Turku  Bioinformatics Unit and to lead a team within the Unit. The salary is in accordance with the university salary system (for teaching and research personnel) level 5-7 where the work specific salary component is 2865.30-3851.33€/month. In addition, there is a share increase based on personal performance, which is at most 46.3% of the base salary. There is a trial period of four months.

We are looking for highly motivated scientist with expertise in bioinformatics, biostatistics, machine learning and/or epigenomics. We will consider candidates with outstanding potential and established excellence in research, proven by scientific publications in high impact international journals. Particular attention is paid also to success in research funding applications. The candidate should have high level of motivation, self-initiative and independency.  The candidate should hold a PhD degree. An optimal candidate has international research experience and experience in supervision of students. Good communication skills in English, both oral and written, are essential. Experience with R, Matlab or other mathematical software is required.

Kultin alumnit ry on Itä-Suomen yliopistosta ja sitä edeltäneistä oppilaitoksista valmistuneiden biotieteilijöiden alumniyhdistys. Toimintansa aloittamisen kunniaksi alumniyhdistys järjestää yleisölle avoimen seminaaritapahtuman perjantaina 13.4.2018 klo 13-17 TTA -auditoriossa (Savilahdentie 6, 70210 Kuopio).

  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills.

Suomen Solubiologit ry oli mukana sponsoroimassa Syrinx ry:n (Jyväskylän yliopiston bio- ja ympäristötieteiden opiskelijat) järjestämää excursiota Turkuun 22.-23.3.. Torstain viimeisenä ohjelmanumerona oli vierailu MediCity:ssä, jolloin opiskelijat pääsivät kuulemaan puheenjohtajamme Elina Siljamäen pitämän esittelyn Suomen Solubiologit ry:stä sekä nauttimaan viinistä ja sämpylöistä. Opiskelijat olivat hyvin kiinnostuneita yhdistyksemme toiminnasta, ja saimmekin vielä esittelyn aikana uusia jäseniä!

PhagoMed (www.phagomed.com) develops pharmaceuticals and other categories of medicinal products on the basis of bacteriophages. We build on the clinical experience in treating patients with phages (Helsinki 37) of our co-founders, Prof. Dr. Burkhard Wippermann and PD Dr. Andrej Trampuz. Our initial target indications are periprosthetic joint infections (mainly S. aureus) as well as urinary tract infections (mainly E. coli). PhagoMed was incorporated in November 2017 in Vienna and has secured financing for 2+ years from private investors as well as the Austrian government. The development program will be run in part through contract research with academic partners and CROs. For specific work packages central to the development program, we have an own laboratory in Vienna, for which we are seeking to fill the positions mentioned above, as soon as possible.

COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGIST (BIOINFORMATICIAN) POSITION IN BIOMEDICUM FUNCTIONAL GENOMICS UNIT 
 
Biomedicum Functional Genomics Unit (FuGUis a core unit organization located in Biomedicum Helsinki with expertise in genome profiling and functional genomics technologies. FuGU provides academic and industrial clients access to a wide range of genomics and related computational data analysis services. The unit is one of the five Life Science Research Infrastructures in the HiLIFE Genome Analysis Infrastructure (HGI) platform and is also part of the Biocenter Finland Genome-Wide Methods network. The unit operates together with Oncogenomics research group at the Genome-Scale Biology Research Program, Research Programs Unit. 
 
A Computational biologist (bioinformaticianposition is immediately available in FuGU for up to three years until the end of 2020. The position gives you the opportunity to develop your skills in a wide range of areas of genomics and genome-wide biology. Your work will mainly focus on data preprocessing and analysis of next-generation sequencing and microarray data but will also involvedevelopment of customized data analysis services, management of FuGU IT infrastructure, implementation of quality assurance standardsparticipation in design of customer projects and teaching in Master’s program and Graduate school courses. 
 
The candidate should ideally have an MSc or PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics or relevant fields. Previous experience with the analysis of next-generation sequencing data is required with proven competence in: 
 
  • Working in the Linux/UNIX environment (Essential) 
  • Working with R/RStudio (Essential) 
  • Background in DNA-seq and RNA-seq sequence alignment analysis (Essential)

We are currently seeking a post-doctoral researcher. Successful candidates will have shown outstanding biomedical research accomplishment and promise, and commitment to a career in academic and translational research. We are particularly interested in candidates with graduate or post-graduate (MD or PhD) level expertise in research on mucosal immunology, human milk, adaptive immunity, food allergy or other atopic diseases, or alternatively expertise on other areas of biomedical research that will be applicable to the abovementioned areas.

Our projects focus on 1) understanding the interaction between breast immune factors (antibodies, microbiome, oligosaccharides, metabolome, proteome) and epithelial or immune cells and/or gut microbiome, 2) immunoprofiling of the early infant immune system, and 3) tolerance development and homeostasis of mucosal immune system and microbiome, utilizing experimental models of immune activation and human samples in the context of mucosal exposure and/or breast milk immune factors.

The overall goal is to uncover factors related to immune protection provided by human milk and protection from atopic diseases including food allergy with ultimate goal in prevention.Prior experience in tissue culture, flow cytometry, ELISA, Luminex, microbiome and/or gene expression analysis is preferred. Excellent communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English is required. The postdoctoral position is with the Department of Pediatrics.
