Our research project focuses in the interplay between acute myeloid
leukemia (AML) and osteoblasts, especially in the context of
extracellular matrix and intercellular communications, and its potential
to unravel new therapeutic targets. We use bioinformatics, biochemical
and cell biological methods, and genetic mouse models to understand how
the relationships between AML and osteoblasts shape drug sensitivity and
resistance, and how bidirectional communication networks are
established. Furthermore, we have access to patient-derived material to
evaluate our findings in a pre-clinical context. We offer a research
environment with excellent technological facilities and a motivating and
supporting community. This project is part of a larger consortium (the

by which we can offer successful candidates access to state-of-the-art
facilities to perform collaborative experiments outside Oulu when

Requirements
The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. degree in the field of
biochemistry, molecular or cell biology, medical science or related
fields. Prior experience in cancer research, cell culture and cell-based
experiments is required and proficiency in molecular biology and
microscopy is expected. Prior knowledge of the research field is
considered an advantage. Good communication and teamwork skills are
appreciated. Fluency in both written and spoken English is required and
candidates with publication experience will be preferred. Most
importantly, we expect the candidate to have a high motivation to
conduct high-level biomedical research.
Salary
The salary for the Post-doctoral researcher will be based on level 5
of the national salary scale for the teaching and research staff of
Finnish universities, which with the supplementary remuneration for an
early-stage post doc is usually between 3400 and 3800 € per month,
depending on the appointee’s qualifications and prior experience.
A six-month trial period is applied to the position.

Two
fixed term postdoc positions (2 years, extendable) are available
at Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway (NCMM). We welcome applications
both
from recent PhD graduates and more experienced scientists.
Experimentalists, computer scientists and hybrids alike are encouraged
to apply. Researchers aiming for academic principal investigator
positions in the future are encouraged to apply for independent

The aim of the Haapaniemi group is to build a gene editing platform that
can be used to correct patient-specific mutations in ex vivo cell
therapies for genetic immune and other rare childhood diseases. We will
use high-throughput biology techniques to optimize,
develop and understand the CRISPR-Cas system that forms the base of the
platform, and develop and implement methods to evaluate its safety in a
clinical setting. We will use the modified gene editing technologies
for the benefit of the patients in the Nordic
hospitals
.
The aim of the Saarela group is to identify novel genetic causes for
rare and complex immune and hematological diseases and improve their
diagnostics and treatment. We use modern genetic and informatics
methods, including deep learning, to analyze genomics
and clinical data, as well as molecular genetics and cell biology
approaches to understand molecular bases of the diseases and normal
immune function. We will also use NGS based methods to identify
molecular diagnosis for patients suffering from rare genetic
disorders to enable accurate prediction of disease course, targeted
treatment and genetic counselling.

This
opportunity has arisen through Dr. Shintaro Katayama as a junior PI
supported by Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation. The joint research groups
with Professor Juha Kere are base in the Folkhälsan
Research Center at Helsinki, Research Programs Unit at University of
Helsinki, and Department of Biosciences and Nutrition at Karolinska
Institutet.
The focus of the work is aimed at understanding where and when RNAs are regulated in various human developmental stages [*1] or the cell types [*2] to understand the disease
[*3] or to use the deregulated RNAs for
diagnosis [*4]. For the aim, the groups are willing also to develop new
molecular and/or bioinformatics methods [*5, 6, 7].
As
part of the joint research groups, there is a position available for a
PhD candidate studying RNA (not DNA) editing in human normal epidermal
cells and the model cells using high-throughput
sequencing at Folkhälsan Research Center and University of Helsinki.
The main duties will involve the establishment of a genome-scale
analysis pipeline or tools to map the RNA editing sites in human cells
using a nanopore sequencer as well as computational
analysis of the experimental results. The analysis includes the
integration of the other experimental results using other equipment or
methods to investigate the association between gene expression and RNA
editing.
The
successful candidates should have (or be close to completed) an MSc in
Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Systems Biology, Computational Biology or
a related field. Experiences of an open-source
software package development will be plus. Applicants interested in any
of the above research areas will be considered.

An enthusiastic and goal-oriented technical assistant is sought to
the Extracellular Vesicle group of Pia Siljander in the Molecular and
Integrative Biosciences research program, University of Helsinki,
located in Viikki. Part of the project may also be carried out in the
Institute of Molecular Medicine Finland, Helsinki. Our laboratory, which
also hosts a dedicated EV Core facility, specializes in cutting-edge EV
technologies and research.
Projects and responsibilities
We
have two ongoing interlinked projects funded by Business Finland where
we need technical assistance for the development of EV isolation and
analytical technologies and standardization. The laboratory work in
project one involves testing of a new technology to carry out
high-throughput isolations of EVs from plasma by testing different
conditions, plate formats and automatization in comparison to existing
methods. The quality of the isolates will be evaluated by EV
methodologies (including flow cytometry), through omics testing and
usual molecular biology methods. The work also involves analysis of EV
samples originating in the second project by the technologies available
in the EV group and core and through the other project participants.
This project also develops standardization for flow cytometry and
materials for standardization.
Qualifications
A
successful candidate has good skills in the essential molecular biology,
cell culture and biochemistry techniques, e.g. Western blotting and
working with multi-well assays. We value prior experience in flow
cytometry, data management and data analysis. The successful candidate
has an active approach to addressing lab needs, keeps meticulous records
of the experimentation and is a dedicated team player with excellent
self-management skills.
