The Laborat (LBD) of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology of Tampere University is looking for a Doctoral Researcher for a project funded by the Sigrid Juselius Foundation . The position will be filled for a fixed-term period of one year.

Antibiotic Resistance is rapidly increasing worldwide. Preceding resistance is antibiotic tolerance, i.e., the ability of bacteria to survive antibiotics in the absence of resistance. This project investigates bacterial, multi-gene expression programs of antibiotic tolerance.

We combine experimental techniques (RNA-seq, flow cytometry, microscopy, synthetic biology, etc.) with Bioinformatics (RNA-seq, DNA sequence analysis) and Biophysics methods (stochastic and analytical models of gene expression, etc.).

Job Description

To conduct this multidisciplinary project, we are looking for students with background in Cell and Molecular Biology / Microbiology / Biotechnology , or equivalent, as well as for students with background in Biophysics / Bioinformatics / Signal Processing / Biomedical Engineering , or equivalent.

The student will collaborate, among other, with research teams in Boston U.S.A., and Tampere, specialized in Synthetic and Molecular Biology and teams conducting clinical trials.

Successful candidates will be invited to pursue a doctoral degree at Tampere University.

Requirements

Applicants need to have a Masters’ degree in one of the fields listed in the job description. Applicants also need to have proficiency in spoken and in written English.

We Offer

The starting date is 1st June 2023 or later, as mutually agreed. The position will be filled for a fixed-term period of one year. A trial period of 6 months applies to all new employees.

The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities . According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of a Doctoral Researcher is placed on level 2-4 of the job requirements scale. A typical starting salary for Doctoral Researchers is approximately 2500 EUR/month.

The LBD is an interdisciplinary, international group with expertise in Systems Biology, Biophysics, Signal and Image Processing, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, and Single-cell Biology, with 15 years of experience.

We are always involved in national and international collaborations. Former Ph.D. students became postdocs in Harvard, Oxford, Boston, Paris, Helsinki, etc. Some are now Professors at various Universities. We do theoretical and experimental research, and our lab has state-of-the-art technology for live, single-cell biology studies.

We offer a one year postdoctoral position within our Protein and Antibody Engineering unit in Turku, Finland. We are seeking a research driven scientist interested in combining multispecifc antibody design with high throughput assay development.

Our team is responsible for not only developing contemporary biologic-based therapeutics but also developing next generation modalities such as multispecific antibodies. Your key responsibilities would be developing high throughput screening assays using our mammalian display platform in order to facilitate multispecific antibody discovery and maturation.

Your key responsibilities include the following:

  • cloning and testing of multispecific antibody designs using flow cytometry
  • construction and validation of stable cell lines
  • construction of mammalian display antibody libraries
  • FACS sorting of antibody libraries

The Protein and Antibody Engineering Unit work within Orion’s Medicinal Design to create and optimize biologic based therapeutics. The Protein and Antibody Engineering Unit consists of highly experienced scientists drawn from around the world with a common goal of designing better drugs to lessen disease impact.

Support will be provided to Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ customers and Account Managers in all facets of their selling activities. The Field Applications Scientist will perform product capabilities seminars, troubleshooting and training sessions with end customers and sales reps. This role will also handle customization requests and confirm technical product requirements of functionality to drive sales confirming and conveying unique customer requirements.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide expert product, application and consultation to customers and sales
  • Perform successful in depth product capabilities discussions to drive sales results
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and conduct trainings for customers and Thermo Fisher employees
  • Contribute to product protocols with customer’s unique process needs in mind
  • Participate and instruct in customer workshops and schedule/run product seminars
  • Work with customers or other professionals to generate field data and application notes, which highlight product benefits and help differentiate our products
  • Assist in meeting sales goals for each of the sales reps in their assigned territory and provide positive motivation and support to help sales reps meet their goals
  • Record customer interactions within our customer records management system, SalesForce.

How will you get here?

Your profile

  • BA/BS in the life sciences (Masters or PhD preferred)
  • A minimum of five years in a research or process development environment, with at least two years working with nuclei acid modalities such as but not limited to mRNA, siRNA, saRNA, etc.High level of computer proficiency with troubleshooting knowledge
  • Experience in a customer-facing support role
  • Teaching or training experience, providing training and advice on how to use raw materials, equipment and techniques for in-vitro transcription to solve scientific questions
  • Familiarity with drug development; therapeutic life cycle from scale up thru commercialization, highly valued
  • Travel: Up to 50% overnight travel

We are looking for an excellent Postdoctoral Candidate to work in the field of rheumatic diseases in a HORIZON-EUROPE Consortium.

The position will be at the Helsinki University, Faculty of Medicine, research program unit TRIMM, Helsinki Rheumatic Diseases and Inflammation Research Group led by Professor Kari Eklund. We are located at Meilahti Campus. You will be part of multidisciplinary team in 4-year HORIZON-EUROPE Consortium project composed of top leading universities in Europe starting in January 2023.

HORIZON-EUROPE Consortium ENDOTARGET project, the main aim is to explore the relationship between gut microbiota, intestinal permeability, and systemic endotoxemia (SE). Further we aim to understand their role as drivers of disease onset and disease activity in osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and spondylarthritis (SpA). as well as targets of preventive and therapeutic approaches. We will study the events leading to disease onset by taking advantage of geographically diverse large cohorts of people with available blood and feces samples with extended follow up times before and after the onset of the diseases of interest.

Your main research objectives/activities, with emphasis on computational analysis of quantitative data, will include: (1) To explore the role of intestinal permeability in development of systemic endotoxemia (SE) and in the risk of RA, SpA, and OA.; (2) To discover novel biomarkers and proteomic profiles for intestinal dysbiosis, SE, and RA, SpA and OA; (3) To characterize the inflammatory and metabolic effects of diverse gut-derived LPS/bacteria on cells of the synovial joint; (4) Quantification and structural characterization of LPS in serum and synovial fluid of RA and OA patients

The ideal candidate has a PhD degree in a life science-related computational or epidemiological field. The ideal applicant should have strong computational skills with experience of biomarker epidemiology, and genomic and proteomics applications. Proficiency in at least one common statistical programming language (e.g. R or Python) is required. Experience in prediction model development is a strong merit. If you have not received your PhD degree graduated yet, you should obtain your PhD degree during the Spring 2023. The earliest anticipated starting date is 15th April 2023 and applicants being able to start the project earlier may have an advantage in the selection process.

Työsuhteen kesto ja palkkaus

Tehtävän aloittamisajankohta on neuvoteltavissa, toivottavasti kuitenkin touko-kesäkuussa 2023. Tehtävän kesto on 36 kuukautta (neuvoteltavissa), ja saattaa olla mahdollista, että työ jatkuu sen jälkeenkin. Työpaikkakuvaus

Turun yliopiston lääketieteellisen tiedekunnan biolääketieteen laitoksessa on haettavana opetushoitajan määräaikainen tehtävä (sijaisuus) 31.1.2024 asti. Tehtävään valitun toivotaan aloittavan mahdollisimman pian tai sopimuksen mukaan.

Opetushoitajan tehtävät liittyvät kaikkiin biolääketieteen laitoksen koulutusohjelmiin (lääketieteen, hammaslääketieteen ja biolääketieteen koulutusohjelmat sekä kansainväliset maisteriohjelmat Biomedical Imaging ja Drug Discovery and Development).

Opetushoitajan tehtävänkuva on opetusta koordinoiva ja tukeva: Tehtäviin kuuluu opetusohjelmien ja lukujärjestysten laatiminen yhteistyössä mm. lukuvuosijohtajien ja opetushenkilöstön kanssa, opetuksen teknisten edellytysten ja tenttien organisointi, opiskelijoiden ja opettajien yhteyshenkilönä toimiminen, opinnoista tiedottaminen ja muut opetushoitajan tehtävänkuvaan kuuluvat tehtävät riippuen valittavan henkilön osaamisesta ja koulutuksesta. Opetushoitajan tehtävään kuuluu myös osallistuminen niihin tiedekunnan opintohallintotehtäviin, joihin yleisesti tiedekunnan opetushoitajat osallistuvat.

Tehtävän menestyksellinen hoitaminen edellyttää soveltuvaa korkeakoulututkintoa. Eduksi katsotaan kokemus koulutussuunnittelusta, pedagoginen osaaminen, opetettavien opintokokonaisuuksien ja yliopistossa käytössä olevien sähköisten oppimisympäristöjen ja opintotietojärjestelmän tuntemus (esimerkiksi Peppi ja Moodle), laboratorioalan tuntemus sekä ruotsin kielen taito. Työssä tarvitaan hyviä vuorovaikutus-, organisointi- ja tietoteknisiä taitoja sekä hyvää englannin kielen taitoa. Hakijassa arvostamme vastuuntuntoisuutta, tarkkuutta ja oma-aloitteista otetta työntekoon.
Tehtäväkohtainen palkkaus määräytyy yliopistojen palkkausjärjestelmän muun asiantuntija- ja tukihenkilöstön vaativuustason 8 mukaisesti, jolloin tehtäväkohtainen palkanosa on 2640,49 euroa kuukaudessa. Tehtäväkohtaisen palkanosan lisäksi maksetaan henkilökohtaiseen suoriutumiseen perustuvaa palkanosaa. Työsuhteen alussa palkka on n. 2798-3089 euroa/kk riippuen valitun hakijan aiemmasta kokemuksesta.

Tehtävässä on kuuden (6) kuukauden koeaika.
