Itä-Suomen yliopisto on yksi Suomen suurimmista monialaisista tiedeyliopistoista. Tarjoamme opetusta lähes sadassa pääaineessa. Opiskelijoita on noin 15 500 ja työllistämme 2 700 henkilöä. Terveystieteiden tiedekunta toimii Itä-Suomen yliopiston Kuopion kampuksella. Tiedekunnassa koulutetaan lääkäreitä, hammaslääkäreitä, ravitsemusterapeutteja, farmaseutteja ja proviisoreja sekä muita keskeisiä asiantuntijoita terveydenhuollon eri aloille.  Tiedekunta on hyvin tutkimusintensiivinen. Kansainvälisesti korkeatasoinen ja monitieteinen tutkimus kytkeytyy vahvasti yliopiston strategiassa tunnistettuihin tutkimusalueisiin. (Itä-Suomen yliopiston CANCER-tutkimusyhteisöön (50%) ja Itäiseen syöpäkeskukseen (50%), KYS)

Itäinen syöpäkeskus (FICAN East) on osa kansallista syöpäkeskusta (FICAN) sen päätoimipaikka sijaitsee Kuopion yliopistollisessa sairaalassa. Itäisen syöpäkeskuksen tehtävänä on syövän ehkäisyn, diagnostiikan, hoidon ja kuntoutuksen yhteensovittaminen sekä syöpätutkimuksen edistäminen.

UEF:n Monitieteinen syöpätutkimus (Multidisciplinary Cancer Research, CANCER) -tutkimusyhteisö perustuu Itä-Suomen yliopiston ja KYSin erityisvastuualueen syöpätutkimukseen ja käsittää sekä perustutkijoita että potilastyötä tekeviä kliinisiä tutkijoita. Kokoamme yhteen syövän molekyylimekanismien, genomiikan ja kvantitatiivisen kuvantamisen osaamisen sekä diagnostiikan ja hoidon kliinisen asiantuntemuksen.

Tehtävä sijoittuu Itä-Suomen yliopiston Kuopion kampukselle ja Kuopion yliopistollisen sairaalan alueelle.

Tehtävä täytetään määräaikaisena aluksi ajalle 1.3.2021 – 31.12.2021 (tai aloitus sopimuksen mukaan). Määräaikaisuuden perusteena on toiminnan suunnitteluvaihe/vakiintumattomuus, 50% työtehtävistä Fican East syöpäkeskuksessa (KYS) / määräaikaiset tehtävät hankkeessa.

Tutkimuskoordinaattorin työsuhde on jaettu Itä-Suomen yliopiston CANCER-tutkimusyhteisön (50%) ja Itäisen syöpäkeskuksen, KYS (50%) kanssa.

Tutkimuskoordinaattorin keskeisimpiä tehtäväalueita ovat:

• Yhteyshenkilönä toimiminen Itä-Suomen yliopiston Monitieteisen syöpätutkimuksen (CANCER) -tutkimusyhteisön, Kuopion yliopistollisen sairaalan syöpätutkijoiden ja Itäisen syöpäkeskuksen välillä
• Itäisen syöpäkeskuksen ja CANCER-tutkimusyhteisön toiminnan kehittäminen, syöpätutkimukseen liittyvien tilastojen (julkaisut, tutkimushankkeet, rahoitus jne.) ylläpito
• Itäisen syöpäkeskuksen ja CANCER-tutkimusyhteisön koordinointitehtävät (tiedotus, nettisivujen päivitys, jne)
• KYS-syövänhoitokeskuksen kehittämistyö ja OECI-akkreditointi prosessiin osallistuminen
• Tiedeviestintä (ml. sosiaalinen media) ajankohtaisten tutkimusuutisten ja tapahtumien seuraaminen ja niistä tiedottaminen
• Syöpätutkimukseen liittyvien tapahtumien ideoinnissa ja toteutuksessa avustaminen
• Ajankohtaisten tutkimusrahoitushakujen seuraaminen ja syöpätutkijoiden neuvonta sekä rahoitushakemusten tekemisessä avustaminen
• FICAN Eastin Tieteellisen työryhmän toimintaan osallistuminen

Edellytämme:

• Tohtorin tutkintoa syöpätutkimukseen soveltuvalta alalta tai vastaavaa kokemusta tieteellisestä tutkimuksesta
• Erinomaista suullista ja kirjallista englannin kielen taitoa
• Itsenäistä, oma-aloitteista ja aktiivista työskentelytapaa
• Hyviä vuorovaikutustaitoja ja yhteistyökykyä

Nyt rekrytoitava tutkimuskoordinaattori pääsee näköalapaikalle osaksi monialaista osaajaverkostoa syöpätutkimuksen pariin. Tehtävä vaatii erityistä osaamista/ymmärrystä perustutkimuksen ja kliinisen tutkimuksen käytännön toteuttamisesta, tutkijayhteisöistä ja -verkostoista ja tutkimusrahoitusinstrumenteista. Lisäksi tehtävä edellyttää ymmärrystä tieteellistä tutkimustoimintaa säätelevistä laeista ja säädöksistä.

Tehtävän palkkaus (50%) määräytyy yliopistojen muun henkilöstön palkkausjärjestelmän mukaisesti vaativuustasolle 9 (2967,98 €/kk). Tehtäväkohtaisen palkanosan lisäksi maksetaan henkilökohtaiseen suoriutumiseen perustuvaa palkanosaa, joka on enintään 50 % tehtäväkohtaisesta palkanosasta. Lisäksi 50% palkkauksesta toteutetaan KYS puolelta tehtäväjaon mukaisesti.

Tutkimuspäällikön (Metabolic Diseases) tehtävä, lääketieteen laitos, biolääketieteen yksikkö, Kuopion kampus (hakuajan jatkaminen)

Tutkimuspäällikön tehtävä liittyy Itä-Suomen yliopiston strategisen tutkimuksen Ikääntyminen, elintavat ja terveys -profiilialueeseen ja sijoittuu terveystieteiden tiedekunnassa lääketieteen laitokselle Metabolic Diseases -tutkimusyhteisöön.

Metabolic Diseases -tutkimusyhteisö keskittyy 1) metabolisten sairauksien (kuten lihavuus ja tyypin 1 ja 2 diabetes) ja niiden kardiovaskulaaristen komplikaatioiden (kuten verenpainetauti, sepelvaltimotauti, hypertrofinen ja dilatoiva kardiomyopatia sekä sydämen vajaatoiminta) genetiikkaan ja genomiikkaan, 2) nutrigenomiikkaan, 3) lihavuuden, tyypin 2 diabeteksen ja niiden kardiovaskulaaristen komplikaatioiden taustalla oleviin geeni-elintapainteraktioihin, 4) kardiovaskulaaristen sairauksien (kuten kardiomyopatioiden, sepelvaltimotaudin ja kalkkeuttavan aorttaläppäsairauden) metabolisiin mekanismeihin, 5) lihavuuden, tyypin 2 diabeteksen ja niiden kardiovaskulaaristen komplikaatioiden vaaraa ennustaviin biomarkkereihin, 6) näiden kardiometabolisten sairauksien ehkäisyyn ravitsemus- ja liikuntainterventioilla sekä 7) näiden sairauksien terveystaloustieteellisiin näkökohtiin.

Hyödynnämme monialaisessa tutkimuksessamme ja yhteistyössämme laajaa osaamistamme perustutkimuksessa, soveltavassa ja kliinisessä tutkimuksessa sekä väestötutkimuksessa. Tuotamme luotettavaa tieteellistä näyttöä suurentuneessa metabolisten sairauksien ja niiden komplikaatioiden vaarassa olevien henkilöiden varhaiseen tunnistamiseen, näiden sairauksien diagnostiikkaan, ehkäisyyn ja hoitoon, täsmälääketieteen hyödyntämiseen terveydenhuollossa sekä terveydenhuollon kustannusvaikuttavuuden parantamiseen ja kustannusten nousun hillitsemiseen. Näillä toimilla sitoudumme tuottamaan tieteellistä, kliinistä, kansanterveydellistä ja terveystaloustieteellistä vaikuttavuutta, joka on terveydenhuollon ja yhteiskunnan hyödynnettävissä.

Tutkimuspäällikön tehtävänä on vahvistaa ja koordinoida monialaisen Metabolic Diseases -tutkimusyhteisön toiminnan strategian kehittämistä, edistää tutkimusyhteisön käytännöllisen ja operatiivisen toiminnan vakiinnuttamista sekä kehittää tutkimusyhteisön kansallista ja kansainvälistä verkostoitumista yhteistyössä tutkimusyhteisön tutkijatyhmien kanssa. Tutkimuspäällikkö osallistuu tutkimusyhteisönoperatiiviseen ja strategiseen johtamiseen sekä tutkimus- ja kehittämisrahoituksen hakemiseen sen johtoryhmän kanssa. Tehtävään valittavalta edellytetään tohtorin tutkintoa Metabolic Diseases -tutkimusalueeseen soveltuvalta alalta, vahvaa näyttöä aihealueen tutkimustyöstä kuten tieteellisistä julkaisuista sekä aiempaa kokemusta tutkimuksen johtamisesta tai koordinoinnista. Hakijan ansioita arvioitaessa otetaan lisäksi huomioon kokemus kansallisesta ja kansainvälisestä tutkimusyhteistyöstä sekä menestyminen ulkopuolisen rahoituksen hankkimisessa.

Tehtävään valittavalta edellytetään hyviä tietoteknisiä valmiuksia, hyvää englannin kielen taitoa ja kykyä selviytyä suomen kielellä (Eurooppalaisen viitekehyksen taitotaso B1 ks https://www.coe.int/en/web/common-european-framework-reference-languages/table-1-cefr-3.3-common-reference-levels-global-scale).

Tehtävä täytetään 1.2.2021 alkaen tai sopimuksen mukaan kahden vuoden määräajaksi 30-50% hoito-osuudella. Lopullinen tehtäväkuva ja tutkimuspäällikön työn osuus määrittyy sen mukaan, mitkä ovat valitun muut työtehtävät. Tutkimusyhteisön toimintaa arvioidaan kahden vuoden kuluttua, minkä jälkeen tutkimuspäällikön tehtävässä on mahdollisuus kahden vuoden lisäaikaan.

Määräaikaisuuden perusteena on toiminnan suunnitteluvaihe.

Tehtävän palkkaus määräytyy yliopistojen opetus ja tutkimushenkilöstön palkkausjärjestelmän mukaisesti vaativuustasoille 5 – 7 (2967,84-3989,91 €/kk). Tehtäväkohtaisen palkanosan lisäksi maksetaan henkilökohtaiseen suoriutumiseen perustuvaa palkanosaa, joka on enintään 50 % tehtäväkohtaisesta palkanosasta.

Uuden työntekijän tullessa yliopiston palvelukseen käytetään koeaikaa.

The open postdoctoral position is going to start off a new endeavour in which we attempt to repurpose copper-centred monooxygenases as catalysts for new-to-nature reactions. The SweetCopper project aims at developing non-natural catalytic transformations based on fungal metalloproteins, the investigation of underlying mechanisms, and the engineering of the proteins to improve stereoselectivity and broaden the reaction/substrate scope. Key qualifications: experience in heterologous expression of fungal enzymes, protein engineering, directed evolution.

Three Post-graduate and post-doctoral scientists for cell therapy research and development projects – Finnish Red Cross Blood Service, Helsinki

We are looking for three research scientists in cell and molecular biology to research and R&D projects focusing on genetic modification of T cells and NK cells with CARs.

​The Finnish Red Cross Blood Service has a strategic interest in the development of novel cell therapeutics. Presently, mesenchymal stromal cells are being manufactured at the Advanced Cell Therapy Centre for treatment of patients, and we are also participating in an industry-led R&D project aiming at developing a Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR)-equipped T-cell product for patient treatment.

The projects

One research project is funded as part of the Academy of Finland Flagship program GeneCellNano (2020-2024). The person hired for this post will be employed by the University of Eastern Finland, but they will be supervised by and carry out their work at the Finnish Red Cross Blood Service in Helsinki. 

Another project is a collaborative project between the University of Helsinki and the Blood Service and funded by the Finnish Cancer Foundation (funding secured for 2021-22 and further funding will be sought), and the scientist will be similarly supervised at and carry out their work at the Blood Service. 

The third project is financed by the pharmaceutical industry and aims at developing new CAR T-cell therapeutics, aiming for clinical translation.
For these projects, two post-doctoral and one post-graduate researcher aiming at a PhD degree are sought. One of the post-doctoral scientists will to devote a part (10-20%) of his/her time to laboratory management.
We hope you could start your work in January-April of 2021. 
The projects are conducted in collaboration with research groups from the University of Helsinki and University of Eastern Finland. Your work involves planning the research, carrying out experiments as well as interpreting and reporting the results. You will operate within a research group focusing on developing novel immune cell technologies.

Skills and experience 

You have a suitable university degree and strong experience of cell culture. Experience in immunology and molecular biology will be helpful. The projects will employ animal tumor models but prior experience is not mandatory. The work requires self-driven and motivated scientists with previous experience in research. Collaboration and communication skills are also important. Describe in your application the experimental techniques in cell culture, immunology and molecular biology that you master, and the extent of your experience in these techniques, your motivation for academic research and lab-work, as well as possible references.

• Excellent team working and networking skills with experience of interacting effectively in multi-disciplinary and cultural settings

Your Role and Goals
You would be working for the technical service for education and research at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture, responsible for the specialized hands-on-learning environments of the school. The service is organized in thematic teams. As a member of the Manufacturing team you are responsible for the Biofilia as a hands-on-learning environment. Biofilia – Base for Biological Arts provides the basic tools of molecular biology, tissue culture and engineering as well as microbiology for users from various backgrounds and interests. Your role as a Laboratory Master includes the following main tasks and responsibilities when ensuring functioning of the workshop and safe working environment as a learning and research environment for the students and researchers.

Maintenance and development

• Maintaining and developing the space and equipment as well as communication of the laboratory environment.
• Managing of the material and equipment purchasing as well as the storing processes.
• Responsible for material purchasing for the courses and research projects as well as assisting teachers with any course related activities or technical details.
• Annual planning and budgeting of the operations.
• Planning of new investments and carrying out procurement.
• Recycling and waste management, also consulting the ARTS Infra in all chemical related issues.

Guiding, instructing and supporting users

• Helping and guiding the students to organize, schedule and define technical details of their experiments and research settings with quality emphasized customer service mind-set.

Your experience and ambitions
Success in this position requires a master ́s degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry (University or University of Applied Sciences degree) or equivalent. You have worked in a laboratory for at least one year and you have background in microbiology and cell culture work. Experience in these is prerequisite as well as being familiar with DNA working methods. You are able to work fluently with both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell lines. Job description
We’re looking for an experienced biological engineer with a background in metabolic and/or protein engineering to lead our efforts to produce natural and novel molecules with therapeutic function. In this role you will use a range of bioinformatics and ”omics” tools to identify and test promising enzyme candidates leading to the production of target high-value molecules, use a range of protein modelling and mutagenesis techniques to generate improved enzyme variants with e.g. increased activity, substrate range, stability etc, and finally engineer yeast cell-factories to produce target molecules by fermentation.

Our ideal candidate will be able to handle as many of the following scientific areas as possible:

– Gene hunting: A proven track record elucidating biosynthetic pathways to high-value molecules.

– Protein engineering: An ability to analyse gene/protein sequences and identify hot spots for mutagenesis and generate and screen for variants with improved function.

– Metabolic engineering (particularly in yeast): Proven track record of engineering microbial cell factories to produce target molecules de novo . As well as identify production bottlenecks and design and implement genetic strategies to overcome them.
