Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate position in the laboratory of Dr. Walid Khaled.
The successful candidate will work on a project funded by Breast Cancer Now aimed at the identification and characterization of novel protein-protein interactions in triple negative breast cancer.
Applicants should have, or expect to obtain shortly, a PhD in the life sciences and have demonstrable experience in studying protein-protein interactions and/or a strong interest in cancer biology. The candidates will need to have strong experience in the following techniques: cell culture, molecular biology (cloning), proteomics, biochemical assays or biophysical assays. It will also be desirable if the candidate has experience in working with GEMM and NGS data analysis.
You must be a careful and methodical worker, accurate and ready to take responsibility as part of a team. You should be self-motivated and able to organise, perform and analyse experiments with minimal instruction. You will have several years of previous laboratory experience and be capable of working efficiently and productively without direct supervision. The post will require some weekend work. Careful observation and accurate computer-based record keeping and presentation are essential.
The successful candidate will join the Epithelial Tumour Biology group led by Dr Khaled, studying various aspects of triple negative breast cancer and squamous lung carcinoma. With a wide range of expertise, team members regularly collaborate amongst themselves and with scientists from other Cambridge Institutes. The successful candidate is expected to interact and work closely with other members of the team.

The Department of Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine, in conjunction with the Stark Neurosciences Research Institute, is seeking to fill an immediate opening for a full-time tenure track position at the level of Associate Professor or Professor.
Candidates should possess a doctoral degree in psychology, psychiatry, neuroscience, or a related field and have established research credentials in the area of neural mechanisms underlying alcohol and/or drug addiction, including nicotine, cannabinoids, opiates or psychostimulants. Responsibilities will include: developing and sustaining an independent research program that will complement present on-going basic and translational research activities, and providing a foundation for better integration of research activities among current investigators, with the overall goal of enhancing our understanding of neurobehavioral and genetic mechanisms underlying alcohol and drug abuse and translating these findings to benefit patients.
Research space will be in the new Neurosciences Building; investigators in this building have access to state-of-the-art Core Facilities. Other responsibilities will include participation on department committees and teaching of residents, interns, medical students and graduate students. Two postdoctoral fellow positions are available at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Department of Neuroscience, in New York.
1) Studies of epigenetic mechanisms of chronic pain.
The project involves the use of advanced transgenic mouse models, biochemical and genomic methods, for the study of brain region-specific adaptations associated with nociceptive sensitization and/or chronic pain induced mood disorders. Applicants must have a PhD degree in the Neuroscience or Molecular Biology. Experience in molecular biology/biochemistry is highly preferred. Other desired skills include experience in mouse behavior, small animal surgery or electrophysiology.
2) Studies on addiction vulnerability under chronic pain states.
The project involves the use of transgenic mouse models, live imaging and brain biochemistry to understand the mechanisms underlying the actions of opioids under chronic pain states. Experience in small animal surgery and mouse behavior is highly preferred.

The Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is an international research institute focusing on human genomics and personalised medicine at the University of Helsinki. In the beginning of 2017 FIMM joined the University of Helsinki’s new life science research centre, Helsinki Institute of Life Science HiLIFE, as an operational unit. FIMM integrates molecular medicine research, technology centre and biobanking infrastructures under one roof, promoting translational research in grand challenge projects, specifically, the impact of genome information from the Finnish population in personalised health and medicine, individualised cancer medicine, and digital molecular medicine. FIMM is currently seeking Research Coordinator for High Throughput Screening Operations
Description:
The High Throughput Biomedicine (HTB) unit of the FIMM Technology Centre performs high throughput bioassays, mainly cell-based drug screening and RNAi experiments. The unit supports research at University of Helsinki and functions as a national and international infrastructure platform mainly for academic researchers. We currently have an opening for a Post-doc/Research Coordinator for project management and coordination. The primary activities of the position include, but are not limited to:
– Project management and coordination
– Method and protocol development (especially in 3D tumor models)
– High throughput screening
– Administration of the HTB unit
The research coordinator will work independently as well as closely with HTB researchers and staff. The specific tasks include management of academic/company collaborations, in vitro disease modeling, microscopy, administration of unit finances and academic writing of applications and reports, high throughput screening, protocol development and data management.
Qualification and experience:
Candidates should have PhD degree in biotechnology, biology, biochemistry, engineering, or a related discipline including proven experience with at least: project management and coordination, supervision of personnel, drug sensitivity testing, handling of clinical samples, cell culture, biochemical, molecular, or cellular techniques, assay development, high content microscopy, flow cytometry, laboratory automation, robotics, and high-throughput screening. The successful candidate is expected to have excellent problem solving, organisational, and analytical skills, and is able to work systematically. In addition, the candidate should be fluent in English, have good interpersonal and communication skills, a service-minded attitude, and be able to work independently as well as within a team.

Tutkimusteknikko toimii Viikin kampuksella yleisen mikrobiologian osastolla opetuksen ja tutkimuksen elatusaineiden ja liuosten vastuuhenkilönä sekä maljanvalulaitteen ja opetuslaitteiden vastuuhenkilönä. Tutkimusteknikko kuuluu tiimiin, joka tarjoaa teknistä tukea biotieteiden laitoksen yleisen mikrobiologian opetukselle ja tutkimukselle.
Tutkimusteknikon tehtäviin kuuluu elatusaineiden ja liuosten valmistamista, aseptista työskentelyä, mikrobiologista ja molekyylibiologista työskentelyä, mikrobiologisen ja molekyylibiologisen laboratorion peruslaitteiden ja -välineiden käyttöä. Tutkimusteknikko huolehtii kurssisalien siisteydestä ja varustelusta yhteistyössä muiden osastolla toimivien henkilöiden kanssa ja osallistuu yleisiin osastotason tehtäviin. Hän sijaistaa tarvittaessa yleisen mikrobiologian välinehuollossa ja autoklaavien käytössä. Tutkimusteknikon tehtäviin sisältyy ajoittain osaston tutkimusryhmissä avustamista.
Tutkimusteknikko toimii vaihtelevissa tehtävissä yksilöllisesti, tiimissä sekä tutkimusryhmissä. Tehtävät vaativat hyvää organisointikykyä ja paineensietokykyä. Valittavalla henkilöllä tulee olla kyky toimia tarkkuutta vaativissa mikrobiologisissa ja molekyylibiologisissa tehtävissä.
Tehtävässä vaaditaan kykyä itsenäiseen työskentelyyn, mutta myös osallistumista tiimityöskentelyyn sekä vuorovaikutusta suomalaisten ja kansainvälisten opiskelijoiden sekä tutkijoiden kanssa suomeksi ja englanniksi.
Tehtävän menestykselliseen hoitamiseen vaaditaan riittävän hyvää englannin ja suomen kielen taitoa, tietoteknisiä perusvalmiuksia, kiinnostusta uusien menetelmien oppimiseen sekä halua kehittyä työssään ja kokemusta laboratorion laatujärjestelmistä.
Tehtävän palkkaus perustuu yliopistojen palkkausjärjestelmän muun kuin opetus- ja tutkimushenkilöstön vaativuuskehikon tasoon 6. Lisäksi maksetaan henkilökohtaiseen suoriutumiseen perustuva palkanosa. Palkka työsuhteen alkaessa on noin 2100-2400 euroa valittavan henkilön osaamisen ja kokemuksen mukaan. Tehtäviin palkataan neljän kuukauden koeajalla.

This PhD project aims to unravel the structural changes of chromatin and viral egress dynamics during the lytic infection with HSV-1. In continuation of our prior studies on HSV-1 reorganization of chromatin architecture, we will further analyze the mechanisms of viral impact on chromatin structure and detailed dynamics of viral nuclear exit. These studies are done in close collaboration with Prof. Carolyn Larabell (National Center for X-ray Tomography, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, CA, USA; 1, 3) and other collaboration partners with expertise in advanced imaging, modeling, biophysics, virology and viral therapy.
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate with a Master’s degree and background in one or several of these areas or a related field: cell biology / microbiology / virology / advanced imaging including live cell imaging, confocal microscopy, EM etc. / biophysics, to conduct the experimental work.
