Junior group leader positions (senior researchers, 4 positions) in Science and Medicine
Turku Collegium for Science and Medicine (TCSM) is seeking ambitious young researchers to start independent research work at one of the departments at the University of Turku, including Turku School of Economics. The positions are funded for 3 years at a time and the term of office for the successful applicants will begin at the earliest on January 1, 2018.
We will consider candidates from any area within Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Medicine with outstanding potential and established excellence in research. An optimal candidate has gained doctoral degree certificate a minimum of three years and a maximum of nine years before the expiry of the application submission deadline, and has international research experience (significant post doctoral research work abroad is essential).
The closing date for applications is April 18, 2017 at 12.00 pm Finnish time (GMT +2).

Turku Collegium for Science and Medicine now invites applications for five (5) post-doctoral researcher positions for three-year periods. The term of office for the successful applicants will begin at the earliest on January 1, 2018.
We will consider candidates from any area within Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Medicine with outstanding potential and established excellence in research. The person to be appointed to the postdoctoral researcher position is required to hold a doctoral degree, which may not have been completed more than five years ago at the time of accepting the position. In this context, the 5 years refer to a net period of time, which does not include maternity leaves, parental leaves, or military service, etc. A doctoral degree must be completed by the end of the application period and applicants are also expected to have attained other academic achievements.

PhD student position in vascular remodeling, stem cell recruitment and adipose tissue function at the University of Helsinki
20.2.2017 | AjankohtaistaWe are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and committed student with genuine interest in research for a project that aims to understand the mechanisms regulating vascular remodeling in adipose tissue and its effect on obesity and insulin resistance in preclinical diabetes/metabolic syndrome models.
The applicant should have some background in molecular and cell biology, and physiology. Previous wet lab experience is also desired. Masters thesis students are welcomed too.
The research group is coordinated by Dr. Marius Robciuc and Professor Kari Alitalo, who is the program leader and the director of Wihuri Research Institute

The Vision: Science to Applications (VISTA) program seeks applications for up to 14 Postdoctoral Awards at York University, Toronto, Canada. The topic of research must fall within VISTA’s mandate, which is to support fundamental and applied vision research that combines biological and computational perspectives and has translational potential for health, industry, or other applications.
VISTA is a program funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund that will enable York University, and its partners, to accelerate York’s already world-class vision research. VISTA involves five York faculties, seven research centers (including the Centre for Vision Research), and over 50 partners in the international research community and non-academic sectors such as healthcare and private industry.
VISTA Fellows require a PhD or equivalent degree in a discipline appropriate for the VISTA program (e.g., psychology, neuroscience, computer science, engineering, philosophy, film, or a medical discipline). The PhD or equivalent degree must be completed by the start date, and held no longer than three years prior to expected start date. Applicants must be sponsored by at least one proposed supervisor from this list of VISTA core faculty. Fellowships will be awarded competitively based on the strength of the candidate, the strength of the research proposal, and fit with the goals of the VISTA program. Up to fourteen candidates will be awarded a minimum salary of $55,000 CAD/year plus benefits for up to two years (with a possibility to reapply for an additional year) and will each receive an annual allowance of $7,500/year for research and $1,000/year for networking and meetings. Two postdoctoral fellow positions are available in the Dhvanit Shah Laboratory (www.shahlaboratory.org) at the Division of Hematology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) & Harvard Medical School (HMS), Boston MA, United States.
The Shah laboratory is located in a dynamic Harvard Medical Area that offers excellent opportunities for intellectual exchange and collaborations among investigators from diverse fields. We investigate the origin, development, and differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), and their utility in treating patients with blood and bone-marrow diseases. We have expertise in utilizing zebrafish, mice, and human induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells to analyze novel genes and mechanisms important for blood formation. Our goals are to utilize our knowledge in developing cellular- and mechanism-based therapies as well as generating functional HSCs for the treatment of hematological diseases.
Position # 1: Hematopoietic Stem Cell Development and Disorders
Ideal candidate will have Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in Regenerative Medicine, Stem Cells, Immunotherapy, Hematology, Oncology, and/or Biology. This position offers an excellent opportunity to learn and apply skills in directed differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells and/or human induced pluripotent stem cells, epigenetics, HSC transplant, xenograft, computational biology, high-throughput screening, gene-editing, and/or molecular and cellular biology techniques. Strong background in one or more of these areas is preferred. Qualified candidate should be able to work independently as well as in a group environment.
Position # 2: Bioengineering of 3D Scaffold Development
Ideal candidate will have Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in Tissue Engineering, Biomaterials, Biophysics, Machine Learning, Systems Biology, Chemical Engineering, and/or Drug Development. This position offers an excellent opportunity to learn and apply skills in organoid development, 3D bio-printing, Bio-MEMS, artificial intelligence, microfluidics, proteomics, and/or medicinal chemistry.
