The group focuses on elucidating biochemical and genetic signatures in human brain and biosamples to assist with understanding disease pathogenesis but also to provide diagnostic biomarkers for Parkinson’s disease and dementia. These are much needed to improve early diagnosis of PD and assessing the efficacy of disease-modifying therapies in a biologically-targeted manner. The postholder will elucidate biochemical and genetic signatures in human brain and biosamples to assist with understanding disease pathogenesis but also to develop biomarkers for Parkinson’s disease and dementia. They will also develop alpha-synuclein seeding assay (RT-QulC) as an early predictive biomarker, monitoring disease progression and stratifying between different synucleinopathies and examine their toxicity and infectivity in vitro. The postholder must hold a PhD in molecular neurosciences or in a field directly relevant to translational neuroscience. They must have substantial experience in protein chemistry, cell culture, molecular genetics and neuropathology. Previously demonstrated research acumen, a track record of successful publication(s) and clear potential for future success is vital.
