We are building up the Rare Diseases Therapy Area and are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative scientist who can contribute with strong disease biology knowledge in the field of rare genetic disorders (or neurodegerative disorders). Your main responsibilities will be to:

• Actively contribute to project ideation, planning and execution of research activities.
• Develop methodologies and set up in vitro and in vivo disease models for rare diseases as well as validate the models against each other and against pathology observed in rare diseases patients.
• Contribute to phenotyping behavior, performance and disease progression in in vivo disease models.
• Plan, conduct and supervise experimental treatment studies in vitro and in vivo disease models.
• Analyse and interpret data and effectively document and communicate results.
• Interface with external academic, biotechnology, and contract research organizations.

Description of unit

The focus of our Rare Diseases Therapy Area is on progressive, serious and life-threatening diseases, where patients are lacking adequate treatment.We aim to develop treatments which are disease modifying or which deliver significant symptomatic relief to patients. To fulfill this exciting task the Rare Diseases Therapy area is strengthened by recruiting new R&D experts to our team in Turku. The therapy area is newly established and you have a great opportunity to be part of developing our processes.Therapy area of the Central Nervous System (CNS) is accountable for the research and development of medications for neurodegenerative diseases (NDD).

Job description

In this position, your main tasks include order reviewing, sample reception and accessioning. You confirm that samples arriving to our Helsinki laboratory comply with our sample requirements and that the enclosed paperwork is sufficient. Your work is very detail-oriented and guided by precise guidelines. You work closely with Client Services Team to make sure that the customer is contacted about any missing or needed information. You work closely with Clinical Laboratory to give them quality material for the sequencing runs.

Qualifications

You should have a Laboratory Technician / B.Sc. level degree, or similar in biosciences or biotechnology or another related field. The ideal candidate has great written and verbal skills in Finnish and English and is able to work in our International environment – as well as review and process orders in English. Working together for a common goal motivates you. You have superior attention to detail and strong organization skills. You are enthusiastic to learn more about our production processes and have the passion to help develop them further.

Previous experience in laboratory accessioning operations will be an asset, but not required, since you will be offered proper training and support to get started.

Subject Field And The Description Of The Position

Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is the most malignant primary brain tumor with a median survival time of little bit more than one year. High complexity of GBM requires development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches combining molecular oncology, cell biology, nanobiology, and bioingeneering. The project aims to develop such approaches by generating implantable 3D cell organoids. Various in vivo and in vitro assays, OMICS studies, molecular cloning and analysis of secreted extracellular vesicles will be applied in the current project. The details of the research project will be mutually agreed upon, based on the qualifications, interests, and expertise of the candidate. Candidates with expertise on neurobiology and solid knowledge and working experience with cell biology and/or molecular biology will be preferred.

The duration of the position is initially for 2 years with the possibility to be extended for 2 more years. The starting date is July 1, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Required Qualifications And Assessment

The successful applicant must hold a recent MSc degree in life sciences. Candidates whose master thesis will be submitted by the application deadline will also be eligible. Fluent oral and written English skills as well as good communication and teamwork skills are required. Demonstrated experience in writing scientific publications, potential in acquiring supplementary funding and teaching experience will be taken as merits.

A six-month trial period will be effective in the beginning of a contract.

Salary

The salary is in accordance with the University salary system (for teaching and research personnel) levels 2-4. In addition, there is a share increase at most, 50% of the base salary, which is based on personal achievements and performance.

Etsimme tutkijaa vasta-aineiden tuotekehitykseen Espooseen

Etsimme tiedonjanoista tutkijaa vakituiseen työsuhteeseen kehittämään vasta-aineita diagnostiikkateollisuuden tarpeisiin. Tarjoamme monipuolisia alan työtehtäviä osana työstään innostunutta tuotekehitystiimiä. Tutkijan työhön kuuluu uusiin projekteihin liittyvää tieteellisen tiedon hakua ja yhdistämistä sekä vasta-aineiden erilaista immunokemiallista karakterisointia, mm. ELISA-menetelmillä ja BLI-teknologiaa hyödyntäen. Myös immunisointien suunnittelu ja toteuttaminen kuuluvat tehtävään. Koesuunnittelu, tuotekehityslaboranttien ohjeistaminen, tulosten tulkinta sekä raportointi ovat oleellinen osa työtä.

Edellytämme:

• kokemusta immunologisista menetelmistä sekä niiden kehittämisestä
• reipasta ja huolellista otetta työhön, organisointikykyä, ryhmätyötaitoja ja paineensietokykyä
• kykyä selkeään ja tarkkaan dokumentointiin
• erinomaista suomen ja englannin kielen taitoa
• ylempää korkeakoulututkintoa biokemiasta, bioteknologiasta tai vaihtoehtoisesti tehtävään soveltuvalta alalta
