We are looking for a research scientist in cell or molecular biology to a research project focusing on genetic modification of T cells and NK cells with Chimeric Antigen Receptors.

​The Finnish Red Cross Blood Service has a strategic interest in the development of novel cell therapeutics. Presently, mesenchymal stromal cells are being manufactured at the Advanced Cell Therapy Centre for treatment of patients, and we are also collaborating with industry in an R&D project aiming at developing a Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR)-equipped T-cell product for patient treatment.

The Project / the Position

The research project is funded as part of the Academy of Finland Flagship program GeneCellNano (2020-2024). The person hired for this post will be employed by the University of Eastern Finland but carry out their work at the Finnish Red Cross Blood Service in Helsinki. The current funding covers one year and the work contract will be made for that period, and more research funding is applied for the continuation of the project. We will employ a post-doctoral scientist or a post-graduate researcher aiming at a PhD degree for the project. The scientist is expected to devote a part (10-20%) of his/her time to laboratory management.

We hope you could start your work in March-April of 2022.

The project is conducted in collaboration with research groups from the Universities of Helsinki and Eastern Finland. Your work involves planning the research, carrying out experiments and interpreting and reporting the results. You will operate within the iCell research group (https://www.bloodservice.fi/Research%20Projects/cell-therapy/icell ) that focuses on developing novel immune cell technologies.

Skills and experience

You have a suitable university degree and strong experience of cell culture experiments. Experience of immunology and molecular biology will be helpful. The project will employ animal tumor models. The work requires a self-driven and motivated scientist with previous experience of research. Collaboration and communication skills are also important. Describe in your application the experimental techniques in cell culture, immunology and molecular biology that you master, and how long you experience in these techniques is, your motivation for academic research and lab-work, as well as possible references.

DOCTORAL STUDENT IN PLANT GENETICS

The doctoral student will be employed full-time for a fixed term of two years in the research group of
assoc. prof. Roosa Laitinen. The earliest starting date is 1st April 2022 or by a mutual agreement.

Roosa Laitinen´ s research group utilizes both global and local accessions of Arabidopsis thaliana to
understand the mechanisms of plant adaptation and evolution. We combine methods of genetics and
genomics to state-of-art molecular methods that are available for Arabidopsis. Our aim is to identify
genes that allow plants to adapt to changing environments and to translate the knowledge to improve
crop plants.

We are seeking a doctoral student to work on a project investigating the genetic factors underlying
plasticity in flowers and in leaves in response to different environments in A. thaliana. The aim is to use
take advantage of the natural variation in A. thaliana and use GWA analysis together with transgenic and
mutant approaches to identify genes that regulate growth plasticity in A. thaliana.

We seek highly motivated candidates with excellent communicational skills, and who can work both
independently and in team environments. Fluency in English is expected. The candidate should have
MSc degree in genetics, molecular biology, biology or related fields and to have proven academic ability
to take initiative and think independently as well as experience in working with plants.

The position is fixed-term (24 months) with a six-month probation period and requires traveling. Akatemiatutkija Emilia Peuhu etsii tutkimusryhmäänsä motivoitunutta ja pätevää tutkijatohtoria ajalle 1.3.-31.8.2022 (on todennäköistä, että tehtävä jatkuu tämän jälkeen). Peuhun tutkimusryhmä (https://peuhulab.utu.fi/) toimii Turun yliopiston biolääketieteen laitoksella. Tutkimushankkeen tavoitteena on selvittää miten kudoksen jäykkyys, koostumus ja rakenne säätelevät rintasyöpää. Tutkimusta rahoittavat Suomen Akatemia, Sigrid Juseliuksen säätiö, ja Varsinais-Suomen sairaanhoitopiiri.

Rintasyövän etenemisen varhaisvaiheet tunnetaan edelleen huonosti. Tehtävä sijoittuu projektiin, jossa tutkitaan kudosjäykkyyden ja geeniekspression vuorovaikutusta spatiaalista transkriptomiikkaa ja kliinistä kudosmateriaalia käyttäen, ja siinä hyödynnetään tutkimusryhmän kehittämää kudoksen 3D bioprinttausmenetelmää.

Palkka

Tehtäväkohtainen palkkaus määräytyy yliopistojen palkkausjärjestelmän opetus- ja tutkimushenkilöstön vaativuustasokartan tasojen 4 – 6 mukaisesti, jolloin tehtäväkohtainen palkanosa on 2591,28 – 3498,98 €/kk. Tehtäväkohtaisen palkanosan lisäksi maksetaan henkilökohtaiseen suoriutumiseen perustuvaa palkanosaa, joka on vähintään 6% ja enintään 50 % tehtäväkohtaisesta palkanosasta.

Research Director / Senior Researcher, Integrated multiomics

The research is to be done in close collaboration with scientists from different research groups within UEF’s Neuroscience Research Community (NEURO-RC, see https://www.uef.fi/en/research-community/neuroscience-neuro ). The international UEFRAE2019 evaluation panel assessed NEURO-RC to be of outstanding quality in international comparison (score 6/6). The goal of the NEURO-RC is to understand the disease-specific and common molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases and epilepsy, and to identify biomarkers and novel therapeutic approaches for their prevention and cure by merging biological and computational neurosciences. To carry our research beyond state-of-the-art, the NEURO-RC combines unique preclinical and clinical datasets of molecular omics to the mechanistic and biomarker studies conducted in humanized disease models, and multilevel analyses performed using neuro-informatics-based approaches. Moreover, studies related to lifestyle and environmental factors will be integrated to these activities.

The Research Director/Senior Researcher will work both as an expert in bioinformatics within the NEURO-RC, and as an independent group leader. The responsibilities also include supervision of doctoral theses, possibly teaching, and acquisition of external funding. We seek applications from highly committed researchers with international experience and an outstanding scientific track record in bioinformatics focused on omics data. An ideal candidate will have a strong background in state-of-the art bioinformatics focused on different kind of omics data (e.g., bulk/scRNA-seq, proteomics, metabolomics, spatial transcriptomics) combined with disease-related genetics. We expect that the candidate can analyze omics data in the multilevel fashion. Furthermore, to gain better insight on genotype-phenotype associations, interrogation of relevant disease models or tissue samples in a single cell level is strongly encouraged. Candidates are welcome to propose a highly innovative research project thematically linked to the scientific mission of the NEURO-RC being complementary to the existing research carried out in the community. The successful candidate is expected to actively collaborate within our interdisciplinary research community and take advantage of the infrastructures and networks available at the UEF. We provide an opportunity to pursue an independent research project for five years. The position includes a yearly budget of 30 000 €/year for personnel and direct project costs for four years.

We are now looking for a Sales Specialist to cover the Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland) for our Cell & Gene Therapy product portfolio. You will report to the EMEA Commercial GM, Cell & Gene Therapy.

What You’ll Do

• Be responsible for supporting key customers within your territory as they move from clinical studies to building the infrastructure to produce cell therapies on a commercial scale
• Have deep understanding of the requirements of a cell therapy manufacturing facility, enabling you to build strong relationships with key customers through solution-based selling
• Be able to differentiate Cytiva’s solutions & offerings, convey compelling value propositions, and respond to customers’ technical/process questions in order to successfully close increasingly complex opportunities
• Maximize sales orders and market share of cell therapy business solutions in assigned area
• Be able to develop strong relationships with range levels of stakeholders involved in buying decisions
• Responsible for building funnel of future business through early design in of products into manufacturing of new therapies in clinical trials
• Work with regional Account Managers and modality specialists to identify customers in clinical development in cell processing, viral vector and gene therapy
• Work with regional Account Manager and modality specialists at strategic customers to develop and execute on account plans with a view to delivering outcomes to our customers
• Organize sites visits and deliver product demonstrations
• Track market effectively and provide accurate current and forecasts data using information tools available
• When required, prepare and co-ordinate the tender response and validate the tender documentation in collaboration with account manager
• Communicate market information effectively to/from the field including competitor data
• Ensures knowledge of and compliance with Company policies and quality processes
• Sustain & develop Cord Blood & Point Of Care markets
  

Who You Are

• Postgraduate level qualifications in cell biology or related subject
• Minimum 3 years sales experience and/or within the cell therapy or bioprocess industry
• English fluent & other Scandinavian languages welcome
• Able to build a rapport with laboratory staff and senior managers
• Able to demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking
• Team working skills, incl. ability to harness resources to achieve goal
• Demonstrates a high standard of written/verbal communication
• Experience of working in a cell therapy lab/GMP facility
• Experience with SFDC
  

As the majority of our customer base is in Sweden, this will be the ideal location of this position. The position is field-based.

Jump-start your neuroimaging career in the industry! Neurotar is looking for an academic neuroscientist to strengthen our contract research (CRO) team.

Neurotar is a pioneer and a leading provider of in vivo two-photon brain imaging in mice as a service for preclinical CNS drug developers. Our clients are pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies from Europe, North America, and Asia. Our in vivo imaging assays help them to quantify dendritic spine turnover, calcium dynamics, microglia activation, Amyloid plaque formation, blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity, trans-BBB pharmacokinetics, and other essential readouts of brain health and disease. At Neurotar we can also image the brains of awake, behaving mice using our proprietary Mobile HomeCage.

Our CRO business is growing, and we are looking for an experienced in vivo brain imaging specialist. Come strengthen our small, friendly, and incredibly dynamic team! You’ll get a chance to participate in cutting-edge translational neuroscience research using state-of-the-art equipment and technologies. You will be involved in a variety of project tasks and, as the main scientific lead on the project, you will quickly develop operational autonomy.

Qualifications

• PhD in neuroscience;
• Extensive experience in in vivo imaging of rodent brain;
• Cranial window implantation, mouse handling, and behavioral assessment skills;
• Strong image and data analysis skills (familiarity with Fiji/ImageJ, Bitplane Imaris; experience with Python or R, GraphPad Prism or Microcal Origin);
• Advanced user of Office Excel, PowerPoint, Word;
• Certification for animal (rodent) work;
• Language requirements: fluent English;
• Personal qualities: integrity, teamwork, flexibility, hands-on approach.

Your job

As part of the contract research team at Neurotar, you are involved in the entire project cycle: from planing the experiments through interaction with the clients, to execution (cranial window implantation, in vivo two-photon imaging, data analysis), to drafting the report and presenting it to the client. While you are expected to take lead in the project, the contract research team is there to help you out, especially in the beginning. In addition, you will aid in the marketing and product development projects.
